Despite how prevalent the users are in tech discussions, nobody actually gives a fuck about linux, not even now when microsoft and windows are supposedly doomed. Even with all the "im totally done with windows and am moving to linux!" posts the marketshare is still tiny, they still get no support, and even the threads related to it here are dead as fuck and just shitposting about how everyone is a jeet. There's no debate when nobody knows one side even exists

Has a bunch of customization and native support for a lot of 21st century features and programs.
On Windows features seem to be almost exclusively forced pet projects, metrics optimization or whatever can provide a manager with clout, not features that users actually want, and even those features that get pushed through will be put on a deferred maintenance track until they break. It's like if Red Hat, GNOME and systemd were the only competition in town.

post your distro screenshots
I can't decide between all of them
>>
>>738211295
Screenshots don't tell you anything bro.
You can install any desktop environment on any distro without much trouble.
I can give you some reasons why you should use my distro (cachyos)
>Arch based which is what SteamOS is built on
>Any package you can't find in the official repos is guaranteed to be on AUR
>Kernel and packages are optimized for gaming
>Rolling release so you always have the latest updates
>GPU drivers come preconfigured
>>
>>738211295
>I can't decide between all of them
The only incorrect answer is mint because of its retarded defaults. Any other distro (Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Cachy etc) will have sane-enough defaults.
>>
>>738212582
what's wrong with mint's defaults? I installed it some years ago and it felt buggy so I dropped it

>>738211494
sounds really good thanks man
I'm going to check it out now
>>
>>738212743
NTA but biggest problem with Mint is outdated packages because it's a fixed release distro. Fine for daily computer use but for gaming it's a mixed bag. Mint is what I would recommend to normalfags who want as painless a transition as possible from Windows but if you want to run demanding games it's not ideal.
>>
>>738212743
Cinnamon is still stuck on X11 which has limitations that will affect anyone with a semi-modern PC.

The real reason to use Cachy is that it streamlines most basic things you need, performs well and is in active development.

>Mint is what I would recommend to normalfags who want as painless a transition as possible from Windows
Stop saying this, people need to get this out of their head. There's nothing intuitive about Mint, it is objectively a bad distro to ever recommend UNLESS its on some Windows 7 Tier laptop. Even then I still wouldn't recommend it.

Whichever one comes pre-installed on the computer mainstream users are buying.
Which in most cases for computers shipped with a Linux distribution means Android, or ChromeOS.
If anyone was the McDonalds of the Linux world, it would definitely be Google.

The artificial segregation of the most popular ARM Linux distribution, and the most popular immutable distribution away from the rest of the Linux ecosystem to reassure Microsoft's bruised ego makes less sense with every year when their one blessed competitor Apple is now also a majority ARM platform.

>>
>>738220509
I also had some difficulty getting Arch/CachyOs to play nice with my TV. Different issue from yours though: In my case Cachy refused to let me replicate/mirror my main monitor to my TV. Perhaps because they are set to different refresh rates.

Anyway, I switched to Nobara because of that (and some other minor annoyances) and it works perfectly with my TV now. Maybe it would be worth livebooting Nobara (or some other distro if you prefer) and check to see if that resolves your issue? Would be neat if it did.

>>
>>738220485
Nvidia is really only around 75% of PC Gamers. Although it wouldn't surprise me if that number skewed more in Nvidia's favor when looking only at Windows 11. It can be very difficult to buy a computer with Windows 11 pre-installed that doesn't include an Nvidia GPU.
This is almost certainly a big part of why AMD and Intel have stopped investing much in drivers for Windows. What's the point? Nvidia has it absolutely locked down, and Nvidia doesn't believe vendors when they threaten to ship anything else.

This is also why the Linux ecosystem only invested in low-watt computing devices and the high performance market for so long. There really wasn't much of a market for Linux systems in the middle because Microsoft had it so locked down.

I didn't think it could be dethroned but Microsoft has essentially rotted from within.
They have a critical mass of indians working there which will inevitable hire more indians and so on until complete saturation. At that point they will be unable to field a functioning product.

Also pretty much everyone in the younger generation already grew up on iphones/androids so it's not like the generations before them where almost everyone had a PC in the house and a work PC.
Younger generation don't have that kind of loyalty and as long as whatever they're using runs the very few apps they need it's good enough.

It really only exists because it is cheaper, and saves time when installing them in servers and workstations.
Also less risky since those cards tend to draw less power than gaming hardware, but even with that the number of those cards burning out is a lot higher than normal.

This is really a product of Nvidia shifting to selling defective workstation hardware to the general public, and AMD and Intel having to follow Nvidia's lead since they're so much of the market. No vendor is going to buy a different PSU just to sell a very small percent of systems with another companies GPU hardware.

>Steam Decks report as Linux users in Valve's hardware surveys. Running SteamOS (Arch Linux)
Yeah when you sort by linux only, not on the general OS breakdown.
>>

Gaming on linux is currently more feasible than gaming on mac.

The situation on mac is comparable to what linux was like before proton was a thing. Wine bottles and shit, not as abstracted from you as they are with proton. Although there have been some recent advances with things like GPTK (Game Porting Tool Kit)

They're always included in the total count, but for whatever reason Valve doesn't show SteamOS in that view.

I see we are already to the dichotomy of Linux

Last I used these distros on a 3b it sucked. And from what I recall, you couldn't go too fast on the newer Pis or it'd cause interference or something?

well, one lets me play the online games that I want to play with all of my friends
and the other doesn't. So, easy choice.
I don't care devs COULD enable linux, the issue is they don't care enough to. So I don't care enough to switch over.

I'd like to give CachyOS a spin or something like that but the huge hit to Nvidia card performance and lack of anything as robust as afterburner on Linux is a real dealbreaker for me, maybe if Nvidia ever starts playing nice

what do you need afterburner for?

microshart fags are so fucking cringe. they fight for the status quo because they are too dumb to figure out how to use something different and act like it is a conscious choice they made rather than because they are lazy and stupid.
>>
>>738227420
>>738227736
LACT is pretty nice to use and simpler compared to afterburner. Dragging a point on a curve and then flattening everything else always felt weird and unintuitive. It's worked on my nvidia gpu and was able to get a better undervolt compared to windows.

As for performance hit I can't really comment because I capped my FPS to 72 when I was on windows and on cachyos I'm doing the same and still hitting that mark. Supposedly the newest versions of proton have fixes to help with the nvidia tax. It's supposed to only affect dx12 though.

Why is which OS other people use causing you so much emotional trauma?
>>
>>738227985
you can use whatever you want. Why would I give a fuck? Are you also too retarded to be able to synthesize what you read into coherent thoughts?

I didnt say using micrshart was cringe. I said the retards acting like they choose to use it for any other reason than they are too lazy and stupid to figure out how to use something else is what is cringe

Nigger are you serious?
>>
>>738227660
Am I misinformed? I was told that Nvidia linux drivers expose a lot less in terms of voltage control meaning you can't perform the same degree of undervolt/overclock you'd get with Afterburner on windows and that even that aside Nvidia cards generally perform a bit worse on linux

I'm on debian and this is trolling. It's a server OS and not really meant for desktop usage.

Use something else. Arch is supposed to be excellent if you're willing to put in some effort. Otherwise, Ubuntu.

These is no debate, Linux won a while ago.
Even Linux Mint, a non-gaming distro is perfectly capable of gaming using an nvidia 3080.
