Best deckbuilder, simple as

I played it before the story was finished, was fun. Really should get back into it, just haven't felt the urge yet.

I have around 200h in it. It's the best deck builder made to date. The anime art style it uses does such a disservice to the game making it look generic despite being so flush with good mechanics, boss fights and story.

There is a lot of reading, sure you can just skip it but it's a large portion of the game.
I've finished it so it's quite good.
Decent gameplay, it's not full autism but final boss fight is quite challenging on expert.
Music is also alright.
Story is just anime bullshit so it's not important.

I have like 70 hours on it which is a lot for me, I did fully finish its story, did a few hard/challenges, I basically never sink hundreds of hours into a single game
It's definitely my favorite take on the deckbuilder RPG concept because you have multiple party members instead of just one character at a time, in non-deckbuilder RPGs I also vastly prefer party based RPGs over just a single protag
>>
>>738204668

>>738204668
Great game, there is too much to praise about it
My only real complain is that the gameplay is demanding, so you don't really get that urge of "one more run" like in other roguelike deckbuilders though on the upside it makes each run feel more fulfilling
>>
>>738205813
>one more run
Yea because a full BM4 + CW run is like 2 hours long. My average sts run is under 40m
>>
>>738204668
I'll give it points for having a story and endgame for a roguelite deckbuilder but it's pretty light in content in comparison. You play the same map and fight the same mobs. There's a good variety of bosses but there's only two endgame ones. I also wish you could make runs a bit longer since some builds never get to reach their full potential.

The whole subplot with the betrayer and the mafia game being cut left a lot of questions about the story.
>>
I hope we hear more about the sequel
>>
endgame content is just BM and challenges right?
>>
>>738207162
It'll probably be a sequel when it comes to mechanics
I doubt the stories will be related though
>>
It feels more like a JRPG with deckbuilding rather than a more strict StS clone. In those games you can always see exactly what the enemy will do and most of your actions are deterministic while Chrono Arc has lots of % chances and doesn't tell you what the enemy will do. There is also a lot of fucking card text to read, at least for some of the characters I played in my first run. Wasn't a huge fan but I might go back to it
>>
>>738207534
Lucy and Momori are the only characters that are 1:1 from CA for lore reasons, itd be remiss if the other characters being different from their CA selves isnt ever important
The UI they've shown off is different so who knows what mechanics will be changed if any.

I generally hate most of the story twists in this game. But somehow they made it work well.

When picture related was first shown, I was convinced the middle girl was Lucy.
But then they showed "P.B." here >>738211403 and now I'm not so sure anymore.
She still looks a lot like Lucy. But here her eyes aren't even blue. Though in picture related they still appear to be.
Did they change P.B.'s eye colour between the initial splash picture and >>738211403? Or could they be two similar/clone/something characters?
And I still think they look a lot like Lucy. And the way she has got an acronym as some kind of pseudonym instead of a real name is also very suspicious.
>>
>>738211687
Probably because it's not actually about the simulation at all and the simulation is basically just a plot device.

I put 80 hours into it but I never finished it. Got filtered by blood mist 2 and if that was optional, something else. I never beat it on expert either, not sure if that was required for the true ending. I'm pretty bad at deck builders, but still seemed to me that some of the fights were complete bullshit.

Anyway, it's worth playing.
>>
>>738204668
having an actual good story in a roguelite is very counterintuitive unless you plan to binge play it until you finish it since if you're like me you end up taking very long breaks from roguelites and will occasionally do a run or two every once in a while which makes it hard to remember whats going on with the story
that being said it is very cool and fun, i honestly might like it more than slay the spire

It was a refreshing take on deckbuilders combining it with Shounen anime plotline and a loli MC. I just wish there was more alternative levels and enemy/boss variety. I also wished they would extend characters backstories based on how many times you beat the run with them, otherwise there isn't much purpose in switching your best build. Soundtrack was awesome, to the point i downloaded it on my phone. I hope their next game is even more game play loop focused.

The thing this game deserves credit for is inventing its own mechanics to make the card game system actually feel novel to play.

>Fixed cards that can be played every turn for increased energy
>Fatigue vs. non-Fatigue cards
>Card exchange as a charge mechanic
>Terrible baseline card draw but card draw is its own part of your deck that you grow independently
>Free card deletes once you go above min deck size
>Takes the Death's Door mechanic from DD and actually builds on top of it.

Those things do a lot to keep runs interesting even when most of the cards are relatively simple (and the relics/equipment are a total snoozefest)

i'm at what i assume is the final boss it's azar, there's flashy shit going everywhere and an anime insert song so it's gotta be pretty close to final if not final but i haven't gotten more than like two or three characters fully golded out

Keep your deck small (six per character if running all 4 units). Levels don't matter too much for stats, they're really for getting extra cards, so you can focus on upgrading mana (7 is plenty) and card draw (dump everything else here) once you have a load out you're happy with. Look for synergies when team building, for example Hein likes taking self damage, so works well with someone like Huz who's heal procs when you hit death's door rather than healing immediately, so he can safely stay damaged without risking being killed. Ironheart sets up barriers than turns them into damage, but if you run someone else to set the barriers up for him he can use those too, so pair him with other units with barrier skills.

Well yeah, instead of using deckbuilding mechanics your skills are limited to what character or E.G.O you use. Other than the gacha and its consequential mechanics it's pretty much the same.
That, and the use of coins instead of dice to calculate damage and clashing. That's just another difference.
Keep whining about gacha while buying gay moviegames from Sony, shitty poorfag subscriptions from Microsoft, Nintendo $90 fetus games or whatever slop you love to consume.
>>738217153
Yeah, exactly. The win rate button is not just a meme if you have OP IDs and good teambuilding. The only challenges are stuff like rush bosses, that roguelike mode in its extreme mode and probably some bosses with creative mechanics you can't unga boonga (even after reading).
>>
>>738217452
>Other than the gacha and its consequential mechanics it's pretty much the same.
almost like saying that humans and dinosaurs both lived on earth so they are the same.
the game has negative depth, it's just bigger number wins with no strategy, you pick the same named IDs and status effects and put them together, teambuilding my ass. at least in LoR you had to choose the cards you put in and manage light and card draw

the fact that you think the "gacha part" matters little and that you had to conclude your reply with a retarded strawman told me everything I needed to know

It's got some fun ideas like character decks and fixed actions, some stupid ones like classic rogue mystery scrolls, kind of an awkward balance of gameplay vs story for a roguelite where sometimes you just get like a full hour of cutscenes before you get to play again, but overall it's pretty good.

>>
>>738213968
Good but not great is how I would describe it as well.

Main problems I had with it are:

- too much pointless walking around, made worse by the fact that Lucy walks real slow
- it's confusing in the beginning and the game doesn't do a great job of introducing its mechanics
- runs take too long
- doesn't really feel like a deckbuilder since each character has a very limited pool of cards, so it's more about combining characters and piloting them rather than finding synergies within the card pool itself

Honestly I don't really get it. Because I struggle to fathom why you'd ever wish to play a cardgame with anything but a mouse to begin with. So I never have.
That said. I read in the patch notes that they added and then kept refining gamepad controls. But again, I still can't imagine why you'd wish o use them. And I haven't used them myself so I can't vouch for the implementation.

>>
this game makes me feel like a mega brainlet. How do I avoid analysis paralysis as a newbie? just take my bumps and new runs?
>>
>>738222359
The final game is mostly similar to the early beta because they ultimately decided that wasn't a fitting storytelling method here. What I'm talking about was only was there for like two updates before being removed.
There's still some remnants of that version that stuck around though like babby mode (Hope) and the fact that before that the plot was slightly different and was probably going to be more horror.
>>
>>738222540
>just take my bumps and new runs?
That's what I did. Granted that I had already played plenty of other card games prior.
Certain mechanics or character-gimmicks still resulted in some pretty humbling losses for me though.
>>
>>738220468
You can teleport. In options there's also setting that lets you skip going inside the treasure box buildings (lets you spend the key on the map). Dunno if that option makes other map travelling quicker.
>>
>>738220468
The game is about synergies. You just build those synergies with the team. Card draw is also super important.
>>
>>738222245
Ic. Idk much about the beta. Apparently there was lots of cut content.
>>
>>738222540
The biggest mechanic to understand in this game is the healing gauge and how to abuse it. On the baseline difficulty, you can be very aggressive in most encounters because damage doesn't count until the character gets hit again.
Another generic thing to keep in mind is using your fixed abilities in order to save up cards for a combo. A lot of the offensive characters in this game are based around putting together one big turn where they hit for a truckload of damage.
Otherwise, most characters have two main builds, and once you see their cards a few times the synergies will become obvious. I recommend playing a character repeatedly until you understand how they function, rather than trying an entirely new team each run.
>>
>>738222540
Also, make sure you read the tooltips for the boss mechanics. Most of them are designed to make you play around their otherwise very punishing gimmick, but they're not too bad once you take that into account.
>>
>>738218542
Using a mascot for like 1/3 of enemies while not going into the depth for the lore behind the Order or the Clowns was a reddit moment cringe. It feels like every enemy is just a throw away rando.

She is still slow when "running" and you can only teleport to areas you explored. Walking around a generic randomly generated map adds nothing. It absolutely should just be a map you click on or something like that. Every other deckbuilder gets this right.

I didn't know about the setting for skipping buildings. Thanks for that tip. Should be enabled by default though.

>Walking around a generic randomly generated map adds nothing.
I suppose it could be done on a typical map layout with icons displayed from the start as well. But I do genuinely appreciate your freedom in what order to challenge (or skip) encounters in Chrono Ark. You can do each zone in very unlinear fashions even though they're layered in a partially linear way.
I also found it moderately satisfying to spot and recognize where the secrets might have been hiding with the scrolls.

I played it years ago when it was in early access because it looked interesting after watching northernlion play it but I only ended up doing a couple runs and never beating it because I sucked at it

A small clarifying tip
>purple status is always damage over time statuses
>red status are stat debuffs
>yellow status are stuns and attack prio aka taunt status. Yellow is kind of the catch all for whatever remains
>>
I tried to get into the story, but I was really unable to care.
>>

Miss chain is busted for free. High health, easy innate skill to resist death while drawing aggro, good dot skills, and fire ground.

Pressel is best character in the game with the rare that lets you prophecize on every exchange. That's an absurd level of deck manipulation. The other rare that spawns an overheal every turn is a significant downgrade in comparison. Full damage pressel is not a meme if you commit to it. The bat archetype does work extremely well and can entirely replace a dps character.

I imagine that's the reason it is how it is, but that is totally doable with a map too.

Pretty good, but I wish characters had more cards. Equipment and events also feel very undercooked. Story needed a bit more to it; what's there is quite nice but I'm left with questions I don't think I was meant to have.

so, what the hell are you supposed to do against the actual final boss?
Everythings fine at the start just alternate between whos getting hit with the waves and push damage for the mcguffins but then when it starts to delete your party the fuck you do?
Losing the healer or the tank gets you instantly wiped cus they can't soak all the damage alone and losing the DPS well- you're doing no damage now.
>>
>>738227937
Your build should always have 2 dps for this exact reason. You simply sac one of the two. You never ever ever sac the tank. You quite literally need just pure numbers of hp to absorb an eradicate. 2 dps and 1 healer at full health sometimes fail to even reach the 100 health threshold. Sometimes you can afford to sac the healer and full dps race, but you have to be very confident in your path forward and using shenanigans like energy drinks.

Her best cards are the crit-related ones and any 1 mana or less parry because her parries give an extra mana. She's definitely not topping the tier list but she's viable. the story ended up feeling pretty great despite some misgivings I had earlier on

Just basic understanding how each character works.
Hein is a high attack damage deal but has horrible accuracy, but a lot of his abilities have perfect hit rate on an enemy with weakness debuff. Hein himself can inflict weakness but if you have another character that can do it frees him up to do big damage.
Most characters even though classified as Tank, Support, Damage can fulfill a different role based on what random investigators you roll and cards you obtain. Ironheart is classified as a Tank but can shit out huge damage if build him like one. Huz can be a healer or weakness debuffer. Charon can be a damage over time attacker or land big nukes.
There are no bad investigators except Phoenix who is suppose to be a joke character with an insane passive. I put like 90 hours into the game and I still don't know how Ilya works, but he's one of the last unlocks anyways.

What parallel world is this? None of the previous ones even reached 100.

I LOVED Chrono Ark. It's amazing how it manages to fuse a VN to a blobber and to a roguelike deckbuilder. The gameplay, sound effects - everything works super well.

My only criticism - and for me it's a very big one that stops it from being truly great - is that the character designs are so fucking boring. It's a rare case of "poor concept, good execution". The illustrators did a great job, but look at what most of the female characters look like. Oh wow a mesugaki an E girl with a hammer. Oh wow an E girl NEET with a generic real-life hoodie and a half-baked rabbit theme. It's so boring and just goon bait. The Sukeban priestess theme and schoolboy genius are basically the only cool concepts. I feel like the player characters are just so half baked. Besides that, though, it's a great game.

>>738247339
yeah tiamat is okay, a bit on the op side
Urunhilda is broken and I don't like her nsfw animations at all, very cheap looking. Plus having to progressively use the same card 3 times to get more effects is kinda tedious.
>>
>>738247710
>look at what most of the female characters look like. Oh wow a mesugaki an E girl with a hammer
I do wish more of the Investigators shared a similar design philosophy as Hein and Lian.Though, I do think Momori being so radically ill-fitting is intentional because for one, she's actively rebelling against Lian. Even then, all the girls could do with at least some gauntlets or chestplates and stuff, Lucy too. Wouldn't want to see her cute little knees getting scraped (I do). I think Lucy would look really cute hiding behind a shield during regular play.
>>
>>738248256

If momori was the only investigator that looked like that then I wouldn't mind much, but I just think they're mostly half-baked. Huz looks so boring.

None of them have a particularly interesting concept or backstory, nor is this made up for by a cool design. I don't really get the appeal of Lian, either, to be honest. She's just a generic warrior girl, like how ironheart is a generic knight. It sucks that only a handful of characters ever even got alternate skins.

For my money, the best designed characters are Joey, Pressel and Narhan.

>>
>>738248620
Is it actually a sequel? I got the feeling that it was a similar game but entirely different world/premise, just with fan/dev favourite Momori returning (albeit as an AU version).

Chrono Ark had a really tight storyline with only one glaring plot thread that didn't get closed (traitor's identity). I don't know if they could make a sequel work without accidentally retroactively worsening the original.

How would it being a sequel make sense? Chrono Ark world was modern, maybe a bit sci-fi. How do you regress from that to steampunk?

Speaking of the story I was surprised they didn't invent anime-bullshit to get them out of the virtual reality without dying. I think it's basically the same as SOMA's plot except hopepilled which makes it better imo. Really nice conclusion

Technological regression due to the loss of most people. There's a reason the ark initially set the world as a medievalish era village. The plan was for people in the ark to learn how to recover from a complete loss of technology. That was of course all ruined by the traitor. It's not completely hopeless of course because the ark staff was stacked with talented people but it's still going to be rough going for a while.

Could someone please re-explain the story for me? It's been so fucking long that I played it that I don't really remember.

Basically, there's a VR ark that people went into. Someone betrayed the system and fucked everything up in some way. Azar made it into some kinda RPG and fucked with people's memories and then made the bioengineered genius girl into a phoenix, the CEO guy into the final bad guy and the little girl who is his daughter (Lucy) into a hero tasked with killing him, looping over and over. Somehow she realizes this and kills azar, resets the system, frees everyone but the VR versions of everyone stay stuck in the Ark forever or something?

I'd love an actual JRPG with deckbuilder mechanics, but it'd be hard to do it as a roguelike due to the difficulty in managing your builds. I reckon a way it could work is that "dungeons" or general combat areas force you to start them from the same baseline every time you attempt them and then your various upgrades that you get are sometimes permanent or influence your dungeon runs through drops, constant passive, some active effects etc (as well as just unlocking different things - perhaps mutually exclusively).

It could be a really fun concept.

You're not really understanding the scale of what happened.
The only ones guaranteed to survive were those in the ark. Once the world thawed they have about a week at best to awaken as many people as possible from the flawed cryo facilities. I don't remember if it was ever stated how many people were in each facility but it's no exaggeration to say that 99% of the world died. Through sheer lack of manpower they would strugle to maintain anything that requires any kind of production line at all.

The plot is retarded. They didn't have a week, the plot just demanded that if you weren't in the ark you never were getting out of cryo. There are multiple instances of idiot writing in this game. There's no reason for Clyne to not keep the ark running after reupload. Literally zero reason not to keep the tomagachis around still, hell we even see the delete command go through after the reupload command. I could go on and on about how shit the plot of this game is and the fact it has defenders is a scathing indictment of weeb plot standards and sensibilities. If you think chiyo is a well written character then never talk to me again.

This is still my favorite deck builder in spite of the retarded narrative. The gameplay is that good.

Well. For one it'd be extremely unsettling for any of the people involved if they learned of how all their memories from their time in the ark were in fact digitally cloned personas that are still trapped inside of the simulation.
And. It was also implied to be rather illegal.

It's strongly implied that if word ever got out of what the true nature of what the ark was, even in a scenario where the ark did what it was supposed to do and saved humanity, it'd massively screw over the entire company and all people involved in the project.
But aside from that. They could have kept the simulation running.
But none were supposed to even know.

>>
>>738261726
Clyne didn't keep it running because he's an autistic shit. It was probably a waste of resources and relying on the naturally low temperatures just like the cryogenics were.
There were certainly some issues with the abandoned traitor plotline and things like Haru that got cut but shoved in at the last second anyway, but the core story they settled on was pretty good and logical.
>>
>>738261726
Oh, and I'm sure the upload at the end was all automated, planned in advance when the Ark was developed. Clyne didn't trust himself either so he wouldn't have allowed anyone the opportunity to modify that procedure.

But I personally really like the character designs shown so far.
But the game appears to be centred around a completely dfferent, and possibly narrower colour palette. But I feel like it uses the style really well.
>>
>>738261726
Mate you skipped most the story apparently.
A major plot point is that they didn't actually have the ability to sustain the cryo chambers. They could freeze you initially but they didn't have the power to last through the entire crisis and had to use the external temperatures to keep you frozen. Since there was no method of waking you up, as soon as the world started unfreezing you would stop being in cryostasis and your bodies needs will return with no one capable of tending to them. This revelation was the cause of the riots and attacks, with a lot of people choosing to try to survive outside of cryo instead. That's also why they had to leave right then and there in the ending, if they didn't, everyone would die with noone to wake them up. As for the deletion, it was a requirement to sell the lie that your conciousness was transferred into the virtual world. That you are the same person before and after, instead of it being a clone that is permanently stuck in the virtual world. Was it a smart idea? The game almost universally says no. But it was what Clyne decided on and it was irreversible.

A waste of resources after the completion of the project? When humanity has to rebuild from the stone age anyways with some salvage? It's just running a server which power gen would be their first priority. Hell it would be a post thaw source of motivation to get power gen up and running asap to return the favor to "save" the tomagachis. But even then the data would just be chilling until power was restored.
>>738262627
There's zero pressure for Clyne to reveal anything about the digital cloning. It's a non issue because no one knows about it. The people that do end up knowing about it fuck everything up from the inside because of his retarded delete decision whereas a continuity decision removes the entire consequences of the whole game. It's a contrived idiot plot. Same with the cryo chamber set up. If the temps outside got too hot to maintain cryo you could easily design your fucking system around that as a feature not a fatal flaw. Minimal power draw when shit is cold and gradually power up as it warms up until deactivating entirely when temps are survivable. Zero gay ark project even needed. None of this stands up to even the slightest scrutiny.

But who even gives a shit about the messy scenario writing when you have a character like chiyo. Holy shit dude. To call this amateur writing is an insult to even shit like dragon's age veilguard.

>If the temps outside got too hot to maintain cryo you could easily design your fucking system around that as a feature not a fatal flaw. Minimal power draw when shit is cold and gradually power up as it warms up until deactivating entirely when temps are survivable
Again, you skipped the entire story.
They did that. It was a completely intended design choice from the beginning to use the external temp to sustain the stasis and enter a reserve power state during the crisis to maintain the ability to wake people from cyro after it was over. It still wasn't enough. Even on reserve power mode it could only last for so long before it completely shuts down and it was projected that this wouldn't be enough time for the world to thaw. That's the entire reason the ark was created. There was no perfect solution, they didn't have enough time. They did what they could to allow as many to be saved as they could with what little they could do.

The VR system explicitly creates copies of the individuals in cyrosleep, with the intent of giving the real life versions the memories of their avatars when it's time to wake up. It is also intentionally designed to delete the avatars once this occurs. Clyne did not inform anyone that the whole plan effectively involves creating and ultimately murdering clones.
The intention was of course to make sure everyone was better prepared for rebuilding from scratch. The Ark people would also be essential in releasing everyone else from their cyropods, which did not have any kind of automatic release function.
The true ending is everyone accepting making that sacrifice for both their other selves and the rest of the world.

That's exactly why someone like Clyne would think it's a waste. He already deleted his own replicas repeatedly in the course of testing, he doesn't care. It's a very heavy virtual reality and was probably using the ice age as its own heat sink.

All fiction is contrived, there's really nothing offensive outside the cut content and maybe the bit about the memory potion. You're bullshitting me if you think sewage like DA is better.

And yet somehow they had the requisite power to cryo preserve everyone in the ark itself AND run a 24/7 simulation server the entire time. Do you know how much extra power that would consume? The power excuse falls flat because clearly there was enough power to sustain the Ark. Even if they lie to the masses and produce dummy chambers with not enough power gen to make it through, they clearly possessed the means to create at least one instance that had the requisite power and wouldn't need to rely on a contrived shutdown mechanism. There is no reason that more facilities with enough requisite power couldn't have been made. Sure, not at scale to preserve all of humanity, but at least in the millions.

The ark should have been a uniquely experimental solution and a contingency plan on retaining memory/mental sharpness in the unforeseen circumstances that extended pure cryo with no mental stimulation ended up with failed thawed products. Rich fuckers in bunkers should have had an easy foolproof dethaw based purely on temperature sensors. Again the existence of the ark maintaining requisite power undermines the premise. It's an idiot plot.

Keeping them dead in storage for an indefinite amount of time until civilization reaches a level that can casually run them in the background and hoping nobody forgets and overwrites it with porn in the meanwhile, that's even weirder
I'm telling you, Clyne would never approve of shit like that. He is a genuine autist, Azar was right.
>>
>>738264349
>Rich fuckers in bunkers should have had an easy foolproof dethaw based purely on temperature sensors
NTA but they address this in the story. The temperature sensor based cryopods are flawed because they detect a fluctuation in temperature and deactivate. But those fluctuations aren't necessarily the world permanently getting warmer, the temperatures quickly drop again and everybody who was let out dies.
>>
>>738264668
His mistake was not gradually informing people in a controlled manner. No one likes the situation but they are able to accept it in the end. Azar learning about it in the worst possible way ensured he would turn against Clyne.
Of course the whole plot kind of relied on him fucking up in this way, and it is a fuck up consistent with his character.

>to cryo preserve everyone in the ark itself
They are using the same system as everyone else. If they don't leave the ark their real bodies die. Exiting the ark was the wakeup trigger that other facilities lacked, that's why they had to wait so long to meet the master. They had to wait until the conditions outside were good enough to terminate the program or everyone would die. This is why Clyne was content to sit there dying over and over again to his daughter. All for the sake of the small exit window.
>>
>>738264723
This is again a cop out. You design around the fluctuations and don't dethaw instantly which is the lynch pin for that plot contrivance. The billionaire wouldn't need to run a full dive vr server just a simple monitoring program measuring temps and matching it to the model with a sustained period of survivable temps. Solved by an arduino.

There's a way to salvage the story easily. The mass produced pods are the opium of the masses, but Clyne wants to at least try to save them. The billionaires have colluded to do a fully autonomous method but it guarantees that they will stay in cryo sleep long after the temps are actually survivable for maximum safety. Clyne is banking on his full awareness experiment to be able to time the thaw perfectly to save the maximum amount of the masses as possible.

The project gets sabotaged from the inside by a convincing liar. Even more devious, that traitor doesn't even have a body, he just snuck his avatar data into the project after learning about the cloning. It's a billionaire that wants the masses to die because he doesn't trust them once they are awake and he is stuck in his cryo pod bunker helpless. Perfect motive. There, I solved the retarded scenario holes easily.
>>
>>738265306
It even gives the traitor extra motive because this is his entire life. He can't leave the simulation. He stands the most to gain in and out of the simulation by keeping it running indefinitely until the point of failure where the real billionaire can show up irl and pull the plug if he feels like being extra petty to Clyne despite the masses already being dead.
>>
>>738265306
>The mass produced pods are the opium of the masses, but Clyne wants to at least try to save them.
That is exactly the story. There are no billionaire pods. There is no full dive VR. Ark is the best they can do on short notice. It is the rich peoples' getaway and he lied to them all to get them on board.
I think you're autistic too for missing the point this hard, so you should understand Clyne.
>>
>>738265306
>long after the temps are actually survivable
You've missed the entire point even after it's been explained multiple times. I don't know how much clearer I have to be.
They don't have the technology required to do this. The only way the cryo works is by using the external temperature. This is not some normal widespread technology. This was only possible due to the nature of the crisis. Their technology level is not high enough to sustain even this level for the entire crisis even while relying on the world being frozen to keep people in cryo, let alone after it. It is an apocalypse scenario, the end of mankind. Not something you can just have a pint and wait for it to blow over. The cryostasis is a last ditch effort to maybe survive long enough for the outside world to be survivable. The last ditch effort failed. The crisis outlasted them. The experimental ark project is the only thing capable of actually outlasting it due to humans actively monitering the external temperatires for an extended period of time to determine the best possible exit point. It could not be automated.
>>
>>738265876
Again, the ark itself destroys the plot. The average billionaire bunker that already exists irl destroys the plot. Humanity has the means to create a substantial amount of infrastructure that could survive something like this that could preserve a good chunk of humans. I can accept the mass produced angle as an incentive for the scenario. It doesn't check out at all that independently wealthy individuals couldn't assemble the means of generating enough power to insure their survival because the ark had enough power in spades.

The sad and pathetic reasoning behind not having this kind of scenario is downstream of how amateur the writing is: the writer wanted his "this is the only way humans will survive lol" moment. It's fatalistic writing. The kind of writing that produces a genius hacker amputee doomed to die by bureaucracy aids. It's a lack of sensible restraint. The stakes being "this is the only chance the bulk of innocents" survive is more than enough. Especially if the villain is revealed as a force directly opposed to that motive. Also what was the traitor's motive again? It's so well thought out. You don't have to go full retard and pin the whole stakes of humanity on Clyne's autism project.

I'm critical because I love this game. It does not deserve a pass for its story. It's wild to actually glaze the story.
>>
>>738266223
The automated systems for the few could have been calibrated to massively overshoot the window that would allow the masses surviving. Power gen is not an issue if the ark exists and worked.
>>
You can run microcontroller that checks temperature put from solar power. The cost to make such is less than 2$. You could have bunch as fail save. I agree the writing is kinda goofy if you look at it from realism point of view, but as a story for game i thought it was pretty interesting neverthless. I personally just found annoying how often they relied on the fact that people just wouldnt tell things to you.
>>
>>738266763
The ark, which uses the same system as everyone else except for the simulation that only works because Clyne figured out how to clone people in the virtual world? Again, this is not widespread technology. This is a unique breakthrough. They do not have the power to sustain cryostasis for the entire crisis. No one does. The only thing the ark sustains is the simulation.
>>
>>738267210
Anon thinks billionaires are wizards who can just will advanced technology from the akashic records with enough money.
>>
>>738267046
It helps that the only people who knew the truth were a turbo autist and a sperg with no self-esteem
>>
>>738267210
Then how the fuck do they survive the fluctuations in the ark? They verifiably are in cryostasis the entire crisis in the ark. I don't think you understand how an ice age works either. It doesn't magically go from -40 to 0 in a day. It would be 1000s of years where they would have to use power to maintain cryostasis during the thaw period. The Ark did this in universe. Little to no energy at the start because shit is so cold already, but you would need energy at the back end as things warmed up but weren't warm enough. Entirely a nonissue if you plan to overshoot. The energy constraint is sensible if applied to the masses cryopods.
>>
>>738267283
Weebs are retards that don't understand thermodynamics. Generating power is not advanced technology, it is the backbone of civilization.
>>
>>738266557
>the writer wanted his "this is the only way humans will survive lol" moment.
You're close to understanding. The focus of the plot is not on creating a plausible apocalypse scenario; instead, it's to explore the nature of identity in a world where people can be copied, reset, exported/erased, or have their memories replaced (and there's also a B-plot to contrast the characters before the Ark with their corresponding characters inside the loop).
Even if you're 100% correct in your criticisms of the in-universe justification for the Ark, it's clearly not what the author wanted to focus on, and acting as though it invalidates the rest of the storytelling is missing the point.
>>738267046
>I personally just found annoying how often they relied on the fact that people just wouldnt tell things to you.
This is a much better criticism of the writing, but it's also very common in fiction.
>>

>>
>>738267573
The ark isn't the only place fluctuating, you realize that right? Everyone experiences the same thing. Even the masses you talk about in your hypotheticals. If the fluctuations were warm enough or lasted long enough to bring people out of stasis then everyone would be dead. What part of the ark's cryosleep isn't uniqiue aren't you getting? The simulation is the only unique thing. Everything else is the same. Aside from learning skills inside of the simulation the only difference is being able to monitor the outside world to determine when it is survivable and having a built in way to exit cryosleep.
>>
>>738267908
It's flat out bad storytelling to create such a fatalistic scenario. You literally have to meticulously tie up loose ends to justify it being so over the top fatalistic. Otherwise you just embarrass yourself. This game has a "traitor" WITH NO FUCKING MOTIVE. It clumsily tries to speak on themes of identity, self preservation, and self sacrifice but the contrivances to make the scenario so fatalistic actively undermines the stakes. You can't handwave away the mounting pile of narrative flaws because they all stem from the simple fact that the writer is an amateur. He fails at writing compelling characters and supplying adequate motive. Where is the traitor's motive? Almost every single character is a 2 dimensional cardboard cutout before and after the thaw. Clyne is a fucking meme of a character. Please, have some fucking standards for the fiction you consume.

Imagine a scenario where someone could generate enough power to stay in cryo indefinitely and then exit using data from the sensors. Couldn't be you.

No it does not have to be feasible for everyone. That creates the entire incentive for the ark without making the ark the sole hope for humanity.
>>
>>738268867
there are other projects too but they're only trying to save themselves and nobody knows if they succeeded
clyne's entire goal is saving all the thousands/millions of people who went into incomplete cryopods and were abandoned
anyone working on something like this is going to assume theirs is the best solution or they wouldn't be there
the replicas are what they ended up with after more ideal designs failed and he covered it up rather than admit that

>I must have missed that, what was the twist?
The twin-character isn't a twin at all.
She was alpha-testing the VR environment thing. Then by the end of it, when it was time for her to log out. She didn't wake up outside. And just saw herself leave while she was stuck inside.
When she later enters the ark in a non-test fashion, the program already has the memory of her alpha-test digital clone. And said clone has gotten existentially mind fucked from having been stuck in a simulation. And since her alpha-clone and her launch-day version weren't in sync, she became a pair of twins with different personalities

Then you don't have cutscenes focusing on it. It's that simple. Glance over it, don't explain anything; the second you do, you open yourself up for criticism. Another example in a similar vein is TLOU: HOW is not the point of the story, but it has just enough of an attempt at an explanation that it takes people out of it.
