Boughted the last or one of the few last remaining controllers in the EVROPEAN market. It was sold out by the time my order went through and I refreshed the page to see something.
>>
>>738220417
That's just because they aren't making them right now due to the memory and ssd price spikes. Not because they're pumping artificial scarcity, they literally wouldn't turn a profit unless they hiked the price of them and they don't want to do that because it really wouldn't make sense to sell them $200-300 more compared to their counterparts that have more modern chips.
>>
>>738220417
Valve don't care about short term profit spikes.
Their only concern is getting new people hooked into the steam ecosystem longterm.
That's why they did a bunch of groundwork for the Cube, which is the flagship and main piece.

Why should I buy this if I already own a Steam Deck?
>>
>>738222149
Because it's from your lord Gaben, he's the good guy so...
>>
>>738222149
because steam deck can't run everything, even if you turn things down and lock it to 60hz. And game streaming can be 50/50 and feel bad.

I'm noticing...
General rule is if you see benchmarks or stats with a valve product that isn't immediately followed by a comparison to its competition from the same source. That means the product is dogshit.
Why do you think people stopped posting Steam Deck game performance in relation to the Switch (2).
I've haven't seen a single Capcom game comparisons from this year (pragmata, re9).
It'll be funny to see all the steamies jump through hoops explaining why their 100 dollar controller is worse than most chinkpads. They already made that disingenuous "chart" comparing it to the most expensive offerings from Sony and Microsoft leaving out the base controller models.

Every other store fixed this problem by reserving the item for 15 minutes once you put it into your cart, but not Valve

I'm amiss as to how there is a big happening over a controller. It's.... a controller. A neat looking controller I'll grant but still, just, a controller. Which plays all the same games as the controllers you already have. I get there being some hype but this is insane. It's like The Elder Scrolls 6 just shadow dropped with limited copies.

>company pulls a walled garden hardware bullshit like they're apple
>steamies defend them unconditionally
Their windows argument falls apart when you point out the fucking controller isn't even plug and play on Android.
Valve's game plan is to force people on Steam OS or at least have steam running at all times on your PC. They're finally slipping off the mask.
There's a reason why in the windows start menu all your game's are INSIDE the steam folder. Microsoft didn't take xinput and force you to run the Xbox app to use it. Even fucking Sony doesn't REQUIRE you to have their app installed to use their controller.
Steam input could be easily forked from steam itself but valve would never do that. They're literally forcing the majority of its users to have its software running AND have it be the alpha and omega of launching programs on your PC if you want to use their hardware.
Absolutely vile behavior, it's insulting that newage Linuxfags think valve is the good guy. Any real FOSS believers would be against this 100%
Only 3rd world retards who have only had access to some shitty Dell Laptop for gaming in the last 10 years are applauding this bullshit.

>>
>>738230804
But it doesn't 'play the same'. You need to understand the wonders of using a touch pad + gyro for any game you desire, to get it.

Make full use of the controller's hardware and Steam's software. I'm still using the OG steam controller because it works so well. But this is just a more versatile version. An omni-controller. God tier.

Gaming with a mouse and keyboard is a dead idea to me unless I need to type frequently.

With the subsidizing of Linux. Valve has cultivated a specific group of fanatics.
Linux users.
They're such a small portion of the gaming sphere in general but they're the loudest most obsessive cheerleaders known to man. Even North Koreans aren't this bad.
Any issue related to valve is simply downplayed or ignored. They'll pull any logical fallacies out of thin air and insult you instead of admitting that maybe, just maybe valve should have done something that benefits everyone.
Remember these are the same people who let valve sell the index at MSRP (1K) for YEARS despite VR headsets becoming cheaper and more advanced.
Let alone the gray market gambling ring they call CSGO. Funny how you're able to sell knives from that game but not your digital licenses for games. Valve is literally tightening the noose for freedom from them in the gaming sphere. They already took over Linux by making sure to even possibly game at an acceptable level you have to use their closed source shit. Now they're trying to get window users to NEED steam running at all times and to launch your games through it.
Fuck off.

Only if you're a windows baby.
On Linux, the controller driver is baked into the Kernel so you get full functionality out of the box.

Windows users can reverse engineer their own solution like Linux users have had to do forever.
>It works with Windowsand with Macs, but Steam has to be running. Otherwise, it's seen as a hybrid mouse/keyboard input device. (Even on a PlayStation, it's seen as a mouse. The exception is Linux, where Valve has a driver in the kernel with gamepad functionality).

Why are controllers just $80 and up now? What the fuck happened? I stopped buying consoles since PS4 era, and only bought that for certain games (literally just bought like 4-5 games and didn't finish half). I've been exclusive to PC since then, so I haven't kept up. Linux isn't Valves system, it's everyone's. It's the opposite of what you're saying.
Valve is freeing everyone from Microsoft's prison.

That goes against how Valve operates. They're center-left, but also for some reason extremely libertarian. It makes some of their decisions so extremely head-scratching at times. Like how they'll ban you for saying something spicy, but also they wont. How they have gay faggot tranny ad for the Steam stuff, but also don't do anything about the millions of far right white nationalists all over the place. Then there's shit like this, where they know they will get scalpers that will buy out all the controllers, and they just don't give a flip. Like they don't care that there's millions of alt accounts used for spamming, and scamming because an alt-account will at least have to spend $5 for full functionality.

Valve leaves community moderation to the publishers, so there's usually a tranny janny in charge of banning chuds. Comes with being a libertarian company. Equivalent would be states' rights in the US.
If a publisher's consumer base has failed to bully them into behaving, Gaben doesn't feel a need to do anything about it because you're free to not participate in their communities.

idk why people are trying to make a Steam Controller based mascot. Valve already succeeded with their little fella, and it's unique instead of doing another furry/anime whatever type of bullshit. The controller already looks like a face, so animate that, put two cartoony legs on it and there ya go.
>>
>>738239716
the front looks chunky but the back looks comfy enough. touch pad functionality mite be nice for shooters, kind of like how gyro is. my real problems with the thing is that it looks like it uses the steam deck Dpad and back buttons, which both feel bad.

Piracy boosts sales and saves Valve a load of time on curating their storefront.
Pirates talk about and recommend good games, whereas they ignore and complain about bad games.
Their time is worthless so they can sift through the shit faster and more honestly than sunk-cost paying customers, which in turn allows them to drown out paid shills.
Even Nintendo got massive benefits from Steam Deck piracy and sold record-breaking amounts of EoL Wii U and Switch titles.

Nyo, I'm not. I made the argument that it depends on the game. You don't need gyro for the very limited aiming required in SP 3D action games, especially not with all the assist that is built in to begin with.

i don't think there will be a restock, by the time ram and ssd prices come down from ai demand it will be time for the steam deck 2. and they can't sell the deck1 at the current price because they would lose money or raise the price and there will be more powerful handhelds for similar price making them look like a ripoff. also all the ram they can get their hands on now will be needed for the steam machine and steam frame.

you can buy a different handheld which will cost a lot more and not have the trackpads (or 1 pad, probably a mini blackberry style pad, at best). or a used steam deck which will cost about as much as they used to cost new. or wait 1-2 years.

my advice, give up on trackpads and just go android. steam on arm is a thing now and while far from perfect its pretty good and getting better. check if it will work with your desired game. go with something with a snapdragon chipset for the driver support, an 8 elite like in an ayn odin 3 handheld, it has a 6" screen. or the faster newer 8 elite gen 5 which isnt in a handheld but is in the redmagic 11 pro gaming phone (6.8") or the yv 400 gen 5 gaming tablet (like 9"), either of which you could get a controller attachment for, the yv400 even has an optional controller just for it.

but none of those options are cheap. if you are willing to go lower power and skip some of the aaa titles like cybperpunk 2077 you could get an oyn odin 2 portal (7") with a snapdragon 8 (not elite) gen 3. totally adequate for most indie games on steam.

or use your existing phone, if its powerful like the latest samsung, and accept that longer sessions in heavy games wont be possible because it doesnt have active cooling unlike the handhelds or the redmagic gaming phones.

advantages of android are portability and longer battery life (except in heavy aaa titles then you'll get the same battery life), longer battery life in standby so you can just pause the game and put it in standby rather than exit/shutdown/restart

Wasn't the original steam controller a piece of shit?
>>
>>738248727
Yes, the only good thing about it was the trackpad. Everything else was terrible.
Shit didn't even have a DPAD.

Literally just keep Steam running in the background if you're a winfag and rethink your choice of OS. Desktop config exists.

Bros, the hype with this controller was because us steam controller 1 owners bought the overflow stock of original controllers for like $25, because why not, and then after using them for a while with steam link realized that the controller was actually god tier for allowing you to play anything from the couch (particularly older games without controller support and emulators) because all buttons were flawlessly customizable and best of all, someone else already created the perfect custom control scheme and uploaded it for you and others to download. After realizing we needed to buy more, it was never sold again. We then spent 10 years talking about how fucking badass the controller was to all our friends, planting the hype seed. Now, we have the updated version following the steam deck format, which is double god tier since we have physical joysticks AND track pads in steam deck format(which is why 4 million people are trying to get the controller for docked play). No more holding the 8bitdo power button and spending 15 seconds moving right analog stick to move the mouse cursor on screen to a mouse only menu on playable compatibility games. This seals the perfection of the deck as a portable vacation game system and casual couch steam access point by fully extending its control scheme to the couch.

I'm going to buy the steam controller 2. Ugh, I know, I know, no xinput, its just... IM BUYING IT HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Nta but too this day the only reason I'm still on windows is Linux vr support is fucking ASS

I also bought the controller, I'm just not feeling it anymore and I'm considering reselling it for 2x profit

>>738250721
>Literally just keep Steam running in the background if you're a winfag
Why is this even a fucking requirement? Are my GOG games fucked?

>and rethink your choice of OS
I want an OS that can play every game. Troonix is still years away from reaching that status. Keep beta testing it for me though, I might finally migrate by 2030.
>>
>>738219261
There are no organic demands for it. It sold out because scalpers hoard it all. There are no true customer for the controller
>>
>>738251002
really now? how do you explain this then
that is a sold listing
>>738250812
>>
>>738250812
It didn't.
This is a common tactics scalpers do where they have another user in their household "buy" the item with on behalf of the scalper so they can pretend the demand is higher than it is and so the prices can get artificially inflated beacuse "look, one sold for this much!!!11"

Why would they? You literally just need Steam open in the background with the controller's desktop config set up as a gamepad. It's no different to something like DS4Windows. How would that affect non-steam games? I swear 90% of this board is tech-illiterate nowadays.

Good morning, Winjeetard SAAAAR!
>>
>>738251181
>You literally just need Steam open in the background with the controller's desktop config set up as a gamepad
And how is the game going to even read the fucking inputs without xinput? Am I going to need to go back to fucking the dark ages and setup joy2key? Or am I going to need to use a software to convert the steam controller into xinput and lose all of the controller exclusives features?
>>
>>738251179

Low impulse control thread
>>
>>738251273
You're just confirming my suspicions of tech-illiteracy. Steam Input outputs as a mouse, a keyboard and an xinput gamepad. You literally just need Steam running in the background.
>>
>>738251501
>You're just confirming my suspicions of tech-illiteracy
No, I just didn't bother to do much research because I am not terminally online unlike you. I'll see if it just werks without needing to fucking enable steam input in every single fucking game.
>>
>>738251463
this + people getting hyped over everything these days. i'd say a good 60% of these buyers are going to not even use their steam controller much because they don't want to fuck around with steam input settings and won't ever use the trackpads in a meaningful way so they'll revert back to their xbox or playstation or third party chinese controller.

Same, except that I sold all of my trading cards for ~$8 but forgot to use the wallet funds as an option to pay up part of the controller
It's over...
>>
>>738251576
>I am not terminally online unlike you
I'm afraid I'm not either. But I have knowledge about the topic at hand because I've actually used it rather than making silly assumptions, unlike you.
If you have a DS4, Dualsense or Switch Pro you can even it right now. It's a bit hidden under Steam->Settings->Controller->Advanced->Desktop Layout. Set this to the Gamepad template and you have your controller act as an xinput pad as long as Steam is running (and no running Steam game overwrites this, duh). No need to add any non-Steam game to Steam.
>>
>>738251365
i believe it just like i believe enough people where stupid enough to put trump back in office
>>
>>738251813
I got enough wallet funds to buy 2, but I never was able to complete the transaction even after trying before and after 1PM, so don't feel too bad, anon.

There will be at least a few restocks throughout the year. Unfortunately for me, I will be out of town if I miss this current window, so I might have to wait until I get back, which is agonizing, but at least this is only a luxury item for me, not a gaming necessity.

I've learned from brief stints of whaling in star citizen, that certain peoples cards are currently pending and will decline, releasing inventory back for purchase, which is probably why it's been coming and going back instock and out of stock the last day.

Literally just tried it with a switch pro controller in touhou labyrinth 3 what you've just said and it did NOT work. Using the gamepad template on the desktop layout config and also turned out the enable steam input option for switch pro controller. Nothing happens ingame.
GOG games are beyond screwed I guess.
>>
>>738252467
Of course you need to enable Steam Input. Steam Input is what's used to translate whatever the Switch controller spits out to xinput. That thing has no xinput support by default.
>>
>>738252558
I meant that I turned on steam input. Nothing happens ingame. It only works when I use an actual xinput controller and without using any of steam's bullshit
>solutions

I don't care anymore, I'm reselling the controller for profit, I don't want to fucking troubleshoot for every single game. Steam input is a meme
>>
>>738252658
I can only assume shitposting, you doing something very wrong or something being very wrong with your system. Steam Input is dead simple in what it does. I follow those exact instructions and my Dualsense and Switch Pro show up as Xbox 360 controllers just fine. Literally no different to something like DS4Windows.
>>
>>738252658
>>738252467

>>738252901
What fucking button? Fucking tell me you nigger
Do I have to read a fucking wiki just to use a goddamn controller? Xinput controllers literally JUST WORK, steam input shit in the other hand doesn't.
>>
>>738252990
>Nope, keeps getting read as a shitch controller
Those steam popups will always show the actual hardware. What's important is whether it's being output as an xinput pad as it should. No clue what's wrong with your system. I know plenty of people that use Steam Input like this though and they never had any problems.
btw, is that Touhou game even on GOG? Can only find it on Steam.

>>738252901
Pretty sure you're thinking about something completely different that's only available with the Steam Deck on Linux.
