I feel like its inevitable that they not only stay as a friendly race, they are also going to very soon have (a) Ganondorf that is a good ruler king of them, and Nintendo re emphasized the idea that there can be multiple incarnations of the dorf like link and zelda (which makes sense if a male is born every 100 years, the name could just be passed down between them), and BotW was already setting up that Ganon is itself now just a completely separate entity of calamity and evil, and is more or less the manifestation of what Demise intended to blight Hyrule with and OoT Dorf was just the vessel through which that curse was carried out.So basically expect the next game to have Link the knight and Good-King Ganondorf of the Gerudo as total bros who hunt and spar together, until some evil essence (Calamity Ganon) corrupts someone or something to cause chaos.

It would be neat if their race had some semi redemption in the lore where its hinted that they are basically the Amazonian chosen people of the goddesses and act as mortal embodiments of them, hence being all female primarily, and that they have had a long standing beef with the Hylians because they reject the idea of Hylia being a true deity/succesor to the three goddesses.
