It's alright. Well the summon itself is fairly strong, but it does take up an entire skill slot and a turn you could have used on a powerful spell instead, so I've got mixed feelings about it. Certainly useful for the early game to avoid losses, less so late game.
Also its usefulness goes up if you take the skill that lets you cast a second spell per turn, but from a different school and at increased mana cost. Well this is a school of its own, and has 0 mana cost, so makes for a perfect second cast.

Yes, there is a mod like that - Chronicles of Might and Magic.
It's pretty bad imo, because it just keeps spawning locations with permanent stat upgrades so you very quickly become insanely overpowered. Especially since you've got all the spells unlocked right from the getgo, and they're all very powerful.
Still, I think it's the only mod that has proper gigantic units like dragons and titans, so it's still pretty fun to try out.

Pic related is how campaign structured, I think. I think I'm at the last mission. Been 2 splits: Grove/Temple and Necro/Temple. Last one leads to two branches, with 2 mission on each, then it combines.
It felt like first pure necro mission is very much only for necromancers, but the second necro looked like it could work for both sides. It's a huge ass map.
I'd imagine you can reload previous save and redo the other path, without starting completely a new. I'll try it after finishing.

I agree with t1-3. Onyx Dancer is the base unit though, Jasper Dancer - the one with +100% melee damage is the best one.
For T4 I'd take Minotaurs, but the Schizm ones are quite good as well, and the Hive ones seem good, too, though they're a bit too slow for me to actually get to use them all that much.
For T5 my favourite are the Hive's Reavers. Good initiative, great damage, a skill that lets them attack with no counter and a free turn upon killing a stack. Absolute killers.
T6 I'd got with the Kirin though. Fast, high initiative, can get no counterattack boost, great skills, and despite it all he's still got the second most health after the Hydra.
Not sure about T7, seems a tie between the dragons, abyssal envoys and angels.

I think they overestimate how good Undead Transformer is.

There are t2 and t3 specialists if you want to make the already great units even better, or take the hydra specialist to make the early game even easier, since no early game unit can do much against a 130 +20% health monster like that.

Vampires need buffs too, vampirism and lack of counterattacks doesn't make up for so little hp and damage. Phoenix gets to cleanse buffs and debuffs on the entire battlefield, be faster, deal more (aoe!!!) damage or regenerate 1/4th of their stack every single round but vampires have to be stuck with 30-30 damage?

Grove, it has many good heroes. So you can't get them all banned.
If you are playing single player, try Mushroom-man, Sullie, Vim, The Ministrel or Halion.
Use Dawn hopplets to generate focus, simply get as many stacks as possible.
Second best is Schism, if you take as many fights as possible each turn you will not suffer any losses ever.
Urgo starts with Avatar which is very strong at the moment, but because of how strong the faction is you can pick almost any hero and have a good time.

Ranged units are simply a necessity right now. Until you can level up your hero to have decent alpha strike you will suffer losses all the time.

the AI hates the cancer eggs and always attacks it. Get the upgrade which makes them take two hits, build focus and boom you got a tank on demand. Also by having stacks of both upgrades and non-upgrades works super well for hivemind mechanic, and it is relatively cheap compared to rushing higher tiers.

Like other anon said, AI prioritizes the eggs over just about everything else. Use them to bait out attacks you'd have to take otherwise.
Get the T2 unit upgraded quick to have first attack on retaliations. With a tactics skill you can get a perk that refreshes your counterattacks if you kill a stack with them.
Otherwise the T5 and T6 are both very good when upgraded, so I think it might be a good idea to get the T5 specialized hero, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

It's quite tanky in the early game, it quickly gets hp in the hundreds with a decent defense stat, it's fast both in speed and initative, and it's almost free (there's an opportunity cost in the skill) and can be resummoned in long battles. If you get it early, it will massively help reduce your early game casualties by either locking down ranged stacks or eating dangerous retaliations, and in the lategame if you get thaumathurgy (which you should on every caster hero, that skill is broken) or the extra cast artifact it's effectively just an extra unit in your army.

AI is cheating because it's quite bad at playing with a single hero.
It has so many resources it's able to build everything it needs.
It will also buy multiple heroes on top of knowing where everything is.
Templates are too generous with free resources which leads to even bigger AI snowball.

Normal, like I mentioned before. It was literally the last town on the map and the AI was turtling. I trampled it because of higher stats, bullshit artifact combos and summoning 170 Star Children + increasing my Hydra stack by 60 on turn one. Nightshade magic is busted as fuck.

It was the only Hive on the map and the AI had to get 3 times as many units from it as it should (with almost no loses) to come close to those numbers. They had more level 3 units than I had troglodytes.

It's a balance decision probably to not fuck up mission progression too much, since you can choose one or the other mission to do first. Also you can start letting neutrals run away and save some playtime, since you don't need exp as much. Or bring another hero to clear and level.
The level cap was a annoying 'problem' only once. You will reach high levels very soon, don't worry.

Unless I'm mistaken, in 3 auto-resolve is the same as running auto-battle from turn 1. Even luck/morale rng will be the same.
But I might be wrong, maybe that's HD mod thing or something.

Templars are fucking good, but so boring to play Humans for some reason
Forge have grown on me its def good there is one unit that have some sort of Bee attack ability that is fucking insane especially with item that raises unit abilities by 40%
Hive is shit, but def imba late game
Necro is shit i dont know dont like em
