>game has pixel art
Does this mean you're more or less likely to try it out
>>
>>738248291
less if it looks like your pic
>>
>>738248291
depend if it's good or not, you moron
>>

Maybe if it looks like your pic

Less likely because I hate mixels but enjoy 144hz. So either the game has mixels or it doesn't support 144hz. Both annoy me. Just have nice hand drawn art that isn't pixels! How hard is that?!!
>>
>>738248291
My appreciation for it diminishes after playing for over an hour.
>>
>>738248291
If good pixel art = much more likely
If not = almost guaranteed to avoid it

I don't get to play very many 2D games, sadly.
>>
>>738248941
*slight correction, you can run at 144hz without mixels but it doesn't look as smooth, it benefits much less from high refresh rate

Neither. At this point, I'm much more interested or disinterested in a game if it's in a genre I have fun playing, over how it looks.

In my opinion, good pixel art > good low-poly art > good stylistic art choices > good 3D realism models, but I'll gladly play the game with 3D realistic models when it's a game that I'm more likely to enjoy. I'll take a dungeon crawler with even crappy 3D designs over a beautiful pixel art JRPG, because while the pixel art is definitely going to be better to look at, I also know that I'm going to be bored for 10-40 hours doing the same repetitive battles, over and over. At least with the dungeon crawler, I might have fun wandering around and exploring the map, even if the graphics are a lot more disappointing to look at.

Why are there so many posers saying this lately, everyone is so desperate to let everyone know they play games for *gasp* fun!

Mixels are a resolution problem, not refresh rate.
>>
Neither will make a good game bad nor the other way around.
Esp. since modern devs will somehow still manage to make a 5090 sound like a helicopter trying to go supersonic even with that graphic

Well, I answered the question in the OP (pixel art typically superior to other animation) and also answered a related question (gameplay superior to artstyle) and how I felt about it. You're free to pick out the topic related to OP if you just wanted to talk about that, or free to talk about the animation vs gameplay aspect if you prefer to have that discussion instead.

I'm not sure why you'd bring that up, since it's pretty relevant depending on the genre. You could certainly have pixelart FPS and 3D model FPS, but one of them is most certainly going to produce a superior style of game. The animation style becomes highly relevant, and even if we all agreed that pixelart is always superior to 3D, it would still be the case that 3D Quake/Tribes is superior to 2D Wolfenstein/Doom games. So it really isn't always just a case of artstyle.

I bring it up specifically with dungeon crawlers because, the only way to really do 2D pixelart in a DRPG is to have a lower framerate to help with rotating the camera. Things get kind of weird. It can run just as smooth with 3D models, hence why basically every DRPG uses 3D models for the environment, or intentionally moves around in very chunky steps. It isn't just a case of which animation style is superior, but a case of which animation style gives the best experience in the game genre.

the hell are you talking about? I can run my monitor at 1024x768@144hz and that isn't going to make the pixel art become mixels. Do you even know what mixels are? What your problem might actually be is you are susceptible to noticing animations animating at different rates to the refreshrate, so your 144hz refreshrate isn't dividing evenly into the animation frames of the game and you're noticing some shit there that bothers you, and hand drawn art isn't going to fix that.

Mixels are when you literally mix pixel sizes in your art which will make it look like shit.

All beautiful games make me interested in trying them out
But that doesn't mean I will get around to it.
>>
>>738250881
Maybe because devs assume everyone must want their trooncolored GaaS shit

I hate those Pixel art style RPGs that can't be interacted with, just full of decorations and sceneries
This is what Nostalgiafags and some braindead JRPG fans think as "good"
>>
>>738248438
real talk though, OP's pic looks like shit
old pixel art was charming because it both pushed the graphical boundries of the system AND left selective room for the imagination to run wild
nuPixel 'art' is both visual vomit and half-assing what a system can do - the polar oppposite of the old shit
>>
CONTRAST is what makes pixel art work.

It's what makes any art work, actually.
But pixel art is where you live or die the fastest from this lesson.
Especially on NES where you only have like 3 colors per each 8x8 tile or sprites (black and white being free)

>>738248291
This doesn't have contrast.
It's clean looking, but nothing really pops. Except for maybe the roof stuff.
>>
>>738248291
Not if it insists upon itself like your pic
>>
>>738250614
I love this game but actually it's a downright mess.
Either you grind and steamroll or you are forced to run from everything and and cheese bosses with magic.
>>
>>738258446
Honestly the only good games in the series are FFL and Trials' remake. SoM and SD3 were super fucked up.
>>
>>738248291
Looks pretty neat. I hope it's a good story, good game mechanics and maybe good soundtrack game. And that they release it soon.

No, I don't get the hardon younger gamers have for pixel art. It can be good or bad, like any other art style, it can be bad in a good game or vice versa.
