Which way, men of the west?
I wish there were more pick up and play couch co-op games.
Two Towers was more difficult for some reason. I remember being surprised by how easy ROTK was. I don't remember much from either of them though, just that I had raged so badly at the last fight in TT because the uruk-hai would put you in so much hitstun while you need to run around different spots of the stage, I ended up ripping open the disc tray of my PS2 and smashing the disc with a wiffle ball bat.Not my finest moment.
>>738248639RotK. The other one felt grindy.
Blew my little mind as a kid when you see the FMVs from the movie transition into gameplay.
>>738249191Really? I thought TT was easier because of your combos have splash damage at the end and the game showers you with health. ROTK on the other hand is more stingy with health, health pickups heal less, and your combos are worse because they removed the splash damage at the end.The Pelennor Fields level where you have to fend off Mumakils and the Nazgul for a long time with little to no health regen while Orcs and Haradrim swarm you took me forever to beat!
>>738248639RotK of course. My favourite levels were when you get to play as Gandalf at Minas Tirith
>>738249191I simply spammed triangle triangle circle triangle to break shields and get my meter up to Excellent, then pretty much just parry killed from there. That said, it was my first PS2 game so I played it an ungodly amount
>>738248639I can't recall the gameplay of the Lord of the Rings movie games.I don't know what the hell happened to all the old games and consoles I owned. They just disappeared.
>Fuck yeah, time to play Return of the Ki->aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>heh it's probably just jank>try it>it's actually an enjoyable AA game
>>738248639Two Towers. The last three levels at Helms Deep were intense. Speaking of, the part where Aragorn has to defend a gate full of civilians all on his lonesome after the Elves there get decimated by suicidal Uruks was gut-wrenching. The final level after that when the last surviving Rohirrim are routed to the courtyard I recall being hectic, with the game constantly flinging all kinds of shit at me. Not excluding cave trolls and Berserkers (picrel). Just killing one of the latter was a struggle since they'd stubbornly and effortlessly parry both my Speed and Fierce Attacks unless I constantly spammed the Bane of Saruman, which is the insta-kill move used against Uruks. That, or I had to patiently wait for them to attack, so that I may parry and attack instantly after in a short window of time. The Fellowship missions from Weathertop to Moria and Amon Hen were cool too. The Fangorn Forest was nice and had this isolated unnerving feeling to it with Saruman's forces constantly ambushing me from trees, dead spaces, and from underwater. The game having push/kick features is also a nice touch, since it encourages the player to interact with the environment more by kicking down ladders and pushing enemies from cliffs, waterfalls, and into pits.I had a great time with ROTK. Though I didn't find it as gritty or as intense as Two Towers. It probably had something to do with the combat or the art style, but for instance I do recall how the stronger enemies in Two Towers like the Uruks and the shielded Orks would grab me and punish me if I parried too often–all with different animations. I'm not sure if ROTK had that. Also, the lethal blow Bane animations (eg. Bane of Saruman) were somewhat harder to execute in Two Towers since there I had to press three buttons to execute them as opposed to the ROTK's two-button press. And the Two Towers lethal blows would reward me with 'Excellents' as opposed to the insta-'Perfects' as seen in ROTK.

>>738251340To add: What ROTK did have over Two Towers in difficulty was that it wasn't as forgiving when it came down to enemies dropping heal items (>>738250508). Two Towers would mass-drop these green potions, which were the full-heal items of that game, as soon as the player reached critical health.
>>738251341it'll continue the woke shit even the 2001 trilogy had heaps of.
anyon remember that lotro with final fantasy rpg combat
>>738250508>>738251385The camera is also way worse in RotKI kept getting lost on the stage where you kick ladders off the walls of Minas Tirith because of the god awful camera angles and the places where they change cameras, and that's in addition to the more complex layout compared to Helms Deep in the previous game
>>738251341It will be rings of power tier
>that spider level in ROTKNOPE
>>738251617Yeah the first two thirds were pretty good but it fell apart when you reach Minas Tirith
>>738248639I feel like the Return of the King game is so ugly and boring compared to the Two Towers game. Actually that's how I feel about these movies too. Fellowship is amazing, Two Towers has some good moments and a few great ones maybe...Return of the King is way too long, ugly to look at, too much CGI, relentless action and battles and ponderous to sit through...I guess it really helps that the Two Towers game starts with a recap of Fellowship for several levels, but it feels like a more complete adventure/fantasy game. Lots of cool different environments you visit. Feels like an archetypal adventure or a great DnD campaign instead of just relentless brown CGI battles.
>AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
>>738250662>>738251340How does the parry moves even work, I've only ever pulled them off a few times randomlyThe other enemies always attack me once I do the X/R2 after a successful parry

>>738251568>2001 trilogy had heaps of woke shitChrist, we're at that part of the cycle, are we?
>>738248639RotK. Pelennor Fields fucking rocked.
>>738256373Not at all. Don't let the well poisoning commies demoralize you into thinking everything was always woke. Rewriting history is their past time
>>738250508The only truly difficult part of TT that I remembered is when you have to defend Helms Deep from the seemingly endless wave of orcs and trolls
>>738249367yep that sort of shit easily took a mid licensed game up a few notches
>>738256373yep. people are calling everything with a decent female character or black sidekick "woke" so they can try and equate today's slop garbage with the quarter century old classics they still fail to surpass even with all their technology and imported supposed geniuses
>>738248639RotK feels a little smoother to play, had more characters and I enjoyed its levels more. Also, I get that they did it to have more enemy variety and stuff but I didn't like that the Helm's Deep levels had a bunch of normal goblins and orcs and even the cave trolls from Moria instead of lots of Uruk-hai like it actually was in the movie.
>>738248639return of the king is better technically and more fun to play, but I have more nostalgia for two towers, particularly the fellowship levels at the beginning.
>>738248639
>>738257075>bunch of normal goblins and orcs instead of lots of Uruk-haiWhat even are the differences anyway? I know goblins are the skinny ones (the one who tried to eat Merry and Pippin at the start of TT) and orcs are the muscular ones and uruks are super orcs (the one who said GIVE HIM SOME MEDICINE BOYS), but orcs and uruks look the same to me.

>>738259000goblins and orcs are the same, hobbits call them goblins and men say orcs mostly
>>738259496Yeah but the game treats them differently and it's not clear which is which even after watching the films.

>>738248639I remember two towers feeling super clunky compared to rotk
What's the last non-lego game to use the Howard Shore soundtrack?
>>738273174I'm playing them back to back and actually having the opposite feeling. Another anon mentioned combos not having AOE damage in RotK, and for me it's also something about the way enemies move. There's some system that pretty much prevents more than 1 enemy from attacking you at once, and enemies move out of the way to let the one dude attack in a way that makes it feel way less visceral. Might be down to the characters we use idk. I Legolas main.
>cheap deaths come often>have to restart the whole level if you die>checkpoints are few and far between>unskippable cutscenesHow are these the most beloved games in the franchise
>>738274232In Rotk enemies immediately attack you if you stab a downed enemy, that was bullshit and I don't remember that happening in TT
>>738259000In the books there's no difference between orcs and goblins, they are just interchangeable names. In the movies, goblins are thinner and assumedly weaker but more numerous. The ones in the Two Towers you mention are actually orcs, the only goblins in the LOTR we see are in Moria. The other smaller evil ones you see are orcs. Uruks are darker skinned and look like actual dudes. Saruman's Uruk-hai are the main example, with Lurtz and his crew at the end of Fellowship and then the fully geared army at Helm's Deep. There's a couple in Return of the King, main ones are one of the commanders under Gothmog at the Battle of Minas Tirith and Shagrat, the big guy that fights with the green orc at Cirith Ungol. The main reason it may get confusing is because in re-shots for Return of the King they made up this group called Morannon Orcs for the Battle of Minas Tirith, which are orcs but stand up straight and have stronger builds almost like the Uruks and also have more standardised armour compared to the usual scrap most orcs wear. Shitty quality but pic should give you the idea.
>>738278498It's so strange because because LotR orcs look more like goblins in every other fantasy media from Warcraft to anime while only LotR Uruk-hai look like the typical image of an orc.
>>738248639I miss 6th gen, bros
>>738279740Yeah I guess if you're used to other series terminology than it can be a bit jarring, but it's not a fault of LOTR that Tolkien made the terminology and characteristics of those groups in the 50's and then DnD just did a copy-but-not-really in the 70's and then everyone copied that.
>>738248639both are equally good
>>738280672It was the last good gen. Everything inexplicably went to shit in 7th gen. LotR Conquest was somehow worse than SW Battlefront despite being made by the same studio. SW Battlefront 3 getting cancelled because LucasArts is retarded. Also everything was blurry with overly bright bloom.
>>738250996It's fun enough but crazy repetitive gameplay wise. The best part of it is how despite all being non-canon stuff it looks and feels like it could actually be canon (to the movies). They did the lore stuff decently well for a video game. It's almost the exact opposite of the Monolith games in that way.
>>738248639PS2 was pure magic bros...

>>738248639two towers, because by the time rotk came out i was kind of bored with the gameplay
>>738258519Based. I played both TT and RotK on GBA as a kid like crazy. Really fun Diablo-clones on the go
>>738283080Is it good?
>>738252363I used to play that level a lot as a kid but the Shelob boss fight was one of the more annoying things in the game and other than failing due to the timer on Minas Tirith - Top of the Wall it was the only place I'd get a Game Over.>>738276319What cheap deaths do you think were in the games?>>738283719Not if you don't like early 2000's MMO gameplay
The mission where you have to defend the entrance to where the civilians are hiding in Helm's Deep was so fucking ball busting to me as a kid. I haven't played it since then so I don't know if it's actually that hard or not, but I remember failing that mission a lot.
>>738283719The game is full of lore, events, and just everyday life in Middle-earth.A simple and charming Middle-earth-themed park, presented in the style of an old MMO from the 2000s
>>738283797I wouldn't say cheap but iirc there are some sections that will take many deaths to figure out and it's not fun to wait for the eye of sauron game over screen to slowly fade in before you can restart, watch the in-engine intro cutscene, then play the level from the beginning againThe helm's deep level with the suicide bombers and catapult boss at the end is particularly sadistic with its length, difficulty, and lack of checkpoints
>>738248639play both, are you stupid
>>738258519hell fuck yes
>>738248639I've never seen or read LOTR and know very little about it. All I've ever played in this series are the Shadow of Mordor games and all I can remember is the ring makes you invisible and gollum dies in the fire or something. Are the movies actually worth it?
>>738288129>Are the movies actually worth it?Yes.>Are the books actually worth it?Even more so.>Are the [anything else] actually worth it?No.

I never played Two Towers but my sisters and I must have beat ROTK at least ten timesI don't think they explain how to kick ladders when you're playing multiplayer so we always got filtered by that minas tirith wall level until one of us finally played the game in singleplayer and learnt what to do
How do we feel about Demon Stone?
>>738250798Zoomers today won't ever get it
>>738249191Pelennor fields filtered me for a bit. Also for some reason the Gondor towers wasn't super intuitive about the size, so I kept getting overwhelmed before I realized there were three separate spots you needed to roam across, unlike in TTT where it was small enough to just have one area for the level.
>>738280672I miss having friends to play vidya with
>>738248639right and its not even close left is absoltue aids specially the near the end mission
>>738283080Man ROTK was probably the best "movie tie in game" ever made wasn't it? Also this thread is really making me realize LOTR has had some great games over the years, weirdly they've gotten slightly worse over time despite open world tech being good enough for an absolutely legendary LOTR game series at this point.
>>738294903I didn't reply to that guy thanks moot
>>738288129Yes
>>738294903>best "movie tie in game" ever madeThat would be the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 or the Revenge of the Sith game
>>738248639It's close but I pick Two Towers because I think all of it's levels are solid. RotK has a few pretty bad ones, especially Shelob's. On the other hand, playing Gandalf is fun and RotK combat is a bit more polished. Tough choice but TT overall
>>738250508Not to mention the combos sometimes don't even land. Gimli's combos in particular has him twirling his axe like a retard for a full minute before performing a kill move
>>738298459Revenge of the Sith was so fucking dope. I remember that cool multiplayer duel mode and I would main Dooku because his lightsaber style was so weird and unorthodox.
>>738250508No. TTT was harder because of the Helm's Deep levels. Sure, you likely won't die but it's very easy to lose due to failing the objective. By far the hardest level of any of these games was the second to last level in TTT where you had to protect a door or gate (you also had to do something similar in the last level IIRC). I simply was unable to beat it with Aragorn mainly because he couldn't destroy the catapults fast enough. I had to use level up and use Gimli to beat it.
>>738300335They actually aren't that bad if you use charge up attacks. Legolas charge up one shots the catapults actually I think, for some reason his charge up does so much dmg. Also charge up attacks make quick work of the trolls on hornburg courtyard. If you don't use charge up attacks, it gets very tight especially on difficult mode.
>>738248639>No cute fat-tittied or totally flat anime waifusNot worth my time.
>>738248639i choose... the third way...
>>738300560That's what Demon Stone was for, which was same dev same gameplay but one of the characters is a drow qt.
>>738248639Which one of things games was considered better, or were they both equal? I remember renting and playing the one with the spider lair so I assume it was return of the king, it was a fun game. The GBA Diablo-likes were also cool.
>>738288129You could get away with watching the movies and then just reading the reckoning of the shire part from the books to get a near complete picture. Then google Tom Bombadil to fill in the remaining gap.
>>738248639I played this not too long ago and I remember liking Two Towers better (even if ROTK feels more polished), I dunno why
Why does no one talk about the Fellowship of the Ring game? It's pretty interesting because it's actually an adaptation of the books rather than the movies which seems to be a very rare thing
This onehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcVcJc3Womk
>tfw only liked Fellowship of The Ring due to BoromirLOTR trilogy is overrated.
>>738300768Playing Gandalf at Moria was nice. I actually got filtered as soon as I entered the mines because I didn't know how to get the stone entrances opened, until I found out that these broom and wooden bucket-looking thingies were actually the levers that were supposed to open them. The arsenal of magic that Gandalf could cast was cool.Playing as Aragorn at Bree and slaying thugs I remember being satisfying. Evading the Ringwraiths and the wolves at the Shire was thrilling, and I remember the game getting decently comfy once it got to the forest where I had to collect these lilies for Tom Bombadil. Then it all went to shit for Frodo and the gang when they fight these ghosts at the Barrow Downs.
>>738300768
>>738254723There was a difference between TTT and ROTK, I think TTT needed you to time the parry and press X + R2 when you saw the spark, but ROTK was much simpler to pull off and just required R2. You had to unlock them first though, and each 'type' of enemy was it's own skill
>>738248639>when you max Legolas and his arrows turn into fucking lasers that just go through multiple enemies
