As far as the role playing goes, I think other games HAVE done it well, it isn't so much that you have a ton of options or alternative paths, you're mostly stuck on the rails, but you can consistently respond to people in character.

And there aren't that many outright combat sections early in the game that you can't avoid, so ammo isn't that big of a deal. Not to mention stealth seems so broken you can just prowl around the outside of combat areas and thin the herd before you go loud.
