Its kind of the default for a fucking reason. Not even a le self-insert thing. Imagine something like buttons or levers for a creature without hands or stairs for a creature without legs (ramps, ok, but you get where im going with this).
It brings up too many practical issues or immersion breaks to be too more standard.
Even aliens or fantasy races are mostly humanoid because that bodymorph is all we’re wired to understand. Its not a diversity/whatever thing, its a functional thing.
That said, its fun once in a while. Last one I can think of is maneater, where you play as a shark.
