Which did the "predict the future, it was ahead of its time" meme better? And which one as a complete package is a better game (gameplay, levels, story, music, graphics, etc.)?
none of these games predicted anything, you're a retard
>>738267737MGS2 has a better plot and is more in line with the dystopian future we're heading for. Deus Ex is a better game, but the conspiracy stuff is all grandiose nonsense.
>>738267737MGS2, probably. Outside of a handful of excerpts with Morpheus and whatnot Deus Ex comes across like what it was: a bunch of wacky conspiracy theories turned into an imm-sim. I mean you encounter grey aliens in Area 51.
MGS2 was prophetic, DE did nothing but regurgitate conspiracy theories of the time (other than coincidentally removing the twin towers)
>>738268408>DE did nothing but regurgitateWhat makes you think MGS2 was any different?
>>738267737MGS2 is in every way.Deus Ex gameplay boils down to knocking out brainless guards with zero situational awareness in needlessly large open areas that only serve to add to the tedium. MGS2 is also just more interesting due to how meta it gets at the end.
>>738268736When you slap "anime/Japan/Kojima" on a work, it makes people think it's suddenly profound and a work of genius.
Deus Ex. There can be different methods to go down the same path such as lock picking a door, blowing it up, finding a key card from a guard, to going through the ventilation systems. Not only that the environments you go through change. From cities to more hostile places like infiltrating a docked ship. There's also some optional quests to do in a lot of the city segments that flesh the world out a bit more.
>>738267737>gamemgs2 is not a game it's a visual novel
>>738267768I never played deus ex but saying MGS2 didn't predict anything is just bullshit. did you even play the game?
>>738267737MGS2 is better when it comes to conveying themes, which is saying something considering how bad the translation is.Deus Ex touches on similar concepts but due to being more open ended you can miss some of its loftier moments like the conversation with Morpheus. That said, it's a better game.
>>738269612Post E. Extreme clear.
>>738268736Where in Deus Ex does it pontificate that accumulating junk data will make humanity dumber?
>>738267737deus ex and it's not even close MGS2 is the console retard version of 'conspiracy' which is just kojima being a wannabe Lynch, again
>Deus Ex>China is the last sovereign country against Western Hegemony>China's totalitarian state is considered a good thing since it's not pozzed like The WestI thought real world isn't a dystopia.
>>738268408>MGS2 was prophetic, DE did nothing but regurgitate conspiracy theories of the timeThe idea of junk info being used to obfuscate the truth is a concept that goes back hundreds of years. Kojima just took an existing idea and gave it a modern framing through the internet
>>738267737Both are kino but MGS's is more original
>>738270137>Kojima just took an existing idea and gave it a modern framing through the internetAnd?
Unironically MGS2. Things are grim as fuck.
>>738268736MGS2 predicted misinformation via internet, brainrot social media scrolling, and ai
I can't for the life of me get DE to work on my PC. Running windows 11 LTSC and I've tried the patch tool or whatever but it always winds up crashing or not working for whatever reason.Shame because I'd really like to play it.
The main difference between MGS2 and DX is that MGS2 actually engages with and offers insight into its "conspiracies" throughout the entire game while DX is just using conspiracies as window dressing.
>>738270268>And?The post claimed MGS2 was prophetic and DE was just rehashing existing ideas when they're both doing that, Deus Ex also predicted that the rise of technology and automation would led to even higher wealth inequality, which just like MGS2 isn't exactly hard to guess if you're just paying attention. MGS2 was inspired by japanese internet forums at the time, MGS2 just like Deus Ex just assumed things would continue to get worse and they were right
>>738270426Download the Gog exe, it should work on anything.
>>738268736Internet wasn't fully realized, the concepts mgs2 explores didn't start becoming a thing until the early 2010s
>>738270865>Internet wasn't fully realized, the concepts mgs2 explores didn't start becoming a thing until the early 2010sPeople were already spimming their personal truths about the Playshitstation and Pretendo 64 in 90's online forums. It was already happening it just wasn't mainstream and noticeable.
>>738270846And that post made it seem like MGS2 wasn't without merit because it took an existing idea (society being bogged down in useless information) and melded it with a modern concept (internet).>>738270997A couple of kids shitposting about consoles is nothing compared to the brainrot, dunning kruger syndrome, and disinfo. about literally topic online now. In 2001, there was still some optimism that the internet was mostly a good thing that could advance human development, not hinder it.
>>738271175>A couple of kids shitposting about consoles is nothing compared to the brainrot, dunning kruger syndrome, and disinfo. about literally topic online nowInfinite Jest was already warning about media brainrot back in the 96 and that was far from the first one either, again these concepts aren't new the internet just made them incredibly obvious to everyone
>>738267737I don't know OP. Which game talks about "creating context" and AI doing the thinking for (you)?
>>738271403>Infinite Jest was already warning about media brainrot back in the 96 If you think there were millions of people reading that and understanding its deliberately obtuse writing and what it meant, you're a goddamn liar.>again these concepts aren't new the internet just made them incredibly obvious to everyoneThat wasn't the case in 2001, especially to normies and kids who played MGS2 in 2001 where, again, the internet seemed like this vast wonderland of information and in no way could be used as a tool for actually dumbing down people to the point where the government had to step in and tard wrangle it to so the populace can be obedient worker bees for their ends.
Man, the future is looking bleak as fuck.
>>738271760>If you think there were millions of people reading that and understanding its deliberately obtuse writing and what it meant, you're a goddamn liar. The original post I replied to claimed MGS2 was prophetic, I was merely pointing out that its ideas weren't as groundbreaking as its fans often claim. I was never arguing that these ideas were in any way mainstream prior to MGS2, but they absolutely did exist
>>738271987Remember the cool shit the bleak future games promised? Pranked you it's just bleak shit with none of the cool shit.
>>738272686
>>738267737Both games were prescient in their predictions about the 2020s.
Why contain it?
Kojima Ripped off Pynchon, all the supposed predictions are predated by other works of fiction. Kojima is just rip off idea guy, he just rips of from things that are more obscure for people who play vidyas. That all being said I love MGS2 and believe it's the better story but not the better game.
One of the things these conspiracy-having games got wrong is the fact that they thought that these secret evil plans would be done in some secret back rooms when in actuality these groups and organizations are out in the open and telling you to your face what they are doing.
>>738272686Pic related happened in the 90's.
>>738275261I don't recall flying cars as ever having been seriously promised. They were a background element in the Jetsons and Star Trek>Inb4 blade runner Deckard has a normal ground car. The police have "spinners" and when Deckard rides in one, the driver (Gaff) puts on a headset and is talking to air traffic control, so it's clearly just a regular aircraft.
>>738274615Kojimbob has an eye for detail. You notice that in his games, anything else he does, like writing, not so much.
