The REAL inflation rate is so much worse, especially accounting for shrinkflation and shitflation

Capitalism is doomed, they eventually won't be able to squeeze "consumers" anymore, and can't possibly shrink the product or make it any shittier

Jeff Bezos makes 8 million dollars an hour even while he's sleeping, that money comes from other people working and generating value that is instead going to shareholders, creditors, and fee collectors which produce no real world value.

due to a huge influx of brown garbage from god knows where in south america; housing, health care, etc make at least a little sense regarding price hikes -- but software has no such constraints regarding real world inputs. it's pure cunty faggot price gouging.

Civ 4 niggs were hated by civ3 niggers that were hated by civ2 nigger that were hated by colonization 1994 niggers that were hated by civ niggers

From technical standpoint sc2 is spaceshuttle compared to wheel and to this day unmatched RTS game no matter the fanboyism about AoE or whatever you personaly like

I don't have any nostalgia for any entry but Civ 4 is still better than 5 and SC2 isn't even in the top 5 RTS games in terms of gameplay. It gets hardcarried by gooks that have nothing better to do, but even there BW esports is kept alive by the fact that SC2 never matched it.

>>
stfu, videogames have never been more profitable and now they are cheaper than ever to distribute. We can have games that are good or even better than the ones we have right now without the sweat droplet on my characters balls having 12,000 polygons instead of 60.
Doesn't help that gaming studios spend a shit ton on marketing (money laundering) point is that triple A games should be $40 max.
>>
>>738277551
>Your skull is filled with liquid shit if you think popularity and player numbers equal quality
Ofc it is especially if you are comparing x40 times the player base 16 year old game to modern RTS that wanted to take the throne.
I get the slop of FPS games today and doom2 is good for what it is, but in RTS genre, there is only SC2, then void, then whatever RTS game you like

>but actually inflation is real, it just describes the cost of goods rising
alternatively, it describes the value of the dollar falling... IE that gold bar isn't 'more valuable' today than it was in 1970. it's the same gold bar, with roughly equal utility -- it's just being compared to paper that's increasingly turning into monopoly money.

>>
Why does inflation boggles people's minds? If you keep 60 dollars under your mattress in 2010 the amount of goods you can purchase with it by 2026 has decreased because people value the dollar less, thus you require more of them to buy the same thing. People value the dollar less because there is more of them in circulation, and potentially how desirable they are to other countries on the world stage due to geopolitical stuff (this is mostly irrelevant right now if you're american because you still have the more desirable currency)
>>
Doesn't matter. $70 games don't sell and a product is worth what people are willing to pay for it. It's going to rule when GTA VI is $80 and the EAs and Ubisofts of the world launch their next quadruple A slop no one gives a fuck about at the same price. You haven't begun to see how hard a game can flop yet.
>>
>>738272405
>infinite supply of digital product means price should trend to 0
>massive competition because tons of indie devs and studios are also making and releasing games now compared to then so even just considering alternatives prices should lower
>prices are just set on vibes and feelings to pay devs
>people not buying $60+ games cause AAA often makes trash that maybe is pretty but not optimized and not fun
>plenty of <$30 games way more fun and interesting

You have to make a good game and you have to advertise it. There is a lot of competiton out there. Many want to follow their dreams and gamedev but not everyone has what it takes.

Theres also the many many multiplayer games so online playerbases are dwindling across the board as players spread out and lose interest over time. To the point where some multiplayer games that are good are just temporary experiences for a few months after launch.

Many people cannot and will not comprehend it even if you explain it to them. If I own 1/3 of all goods in the economy and you double the money supply and hand the new notes to your banker friend, I need to at least double the price of things I sell for me to continue owning 1/3 of the real wealth, proportionally. But somehow no one really gets it, so everyone gets swindled including our bosses who feel like they cant raise prices or they cant compete with the other people who are too dumb to raise prices. And yet then for some reason, big smart corporations like mcdonalds raise prices.

If you guys still had the gold standard, prices (and salaries) would be going down over time because there's only so much gold. Sounds good right? But then you'd have the problem where breaking even for any company would be a nightmare: first, you pay expenses at a high price, but then by the time you sell your product the prices have gone down. Literally buy high sell low. So companies would shut down, then there'd be a price spike due to lack of product, then you'd get a brief period of new companies churning out lots of stuff, then they shut down again... Economists know what they're doing.

Technology gets cheaper over time, as production processes get more efficient and new inventions drive down the price thanks to competition.
These inventions in gaming are things like better, easier to use programming languages and engines, as well as AI coding tools.
Add to this an expanding audience, and games really should be getting cheaper.

Two ways to look at this:
1. 70 dollars is too much because it was ALWAYS too much, especially for a digital-only product
2. 70 dollars is especially too much now that the cost of living has gone up and people can't affort to spend on entertainment so readily

Even if people can affort it, it doesn't mean it isn't too much
bonus:
devs are now using more and more AI, reducing the actual effort required to make the game,
some companies spend more money on advertising than they do on developer paychecks

As for online games you'd have to region lock steam accounts to US states which is even dumber

Midwit argument
Citizens don't take them because you refuse to offer pay and conditions they will consider equivalent
If you cannot pay first world locals to do a job, that job should not exist. It should not get to continue to exist because you found retarded 80iq poors who are used to worse conditions who are happy to accept the shit pay and shit conditions you offer. It's just an eternal race to the fucking bottom when you allow it, and we should punish the people who try to facilitate this so harshly they never think about doing anything wrong again out of fear.
>>

This is a fairy tale. Citizens take those jobs. Citizens need to have those jobs available so they are not all funneled into, and fighting for, medium and high skill jobs with increasingly inflated credential requirements.
>>
>>738295275
You enter a depression spiral. People consume and invest less because it's better to just hold cash, fewer investments and consumption means fewer jobs, fewer jobs means less money, less money means less consumption, and so on.
The way to ensure lots of consumption and investment is to make money a hot potato no one wants to keep.

How long can this current capitalist system last?

When do we pass a threshold of enough proles not being able to afford the increasing price of necessary expenses despite wages never going up to match it?

It's just a mathematical inevitability, the non-essential sectors of capitalism are suffering like Doritos and Switch 2 games, because no one NEEDS those

But the shareholders who control all necessary expenses are squeezing proles for every drop of juice they have and eventually there's no more juice to squeeze

A lot of this inflation was the US printing obscene amounts of money for currency swaps to facilitate foreign investment and dollarization, something that has paid off quite well.

This level of wealth inequality was the standard everywhere. At least maybe you could get some peace and quite while toiling for food and praying there was no drought and that nobody important to you got sick. The real tragedy is that we couldn't achieve the future we dreamed of and are going back to the dark ages.

1) Averaged out it's estimated medieval peasants worked ~15 hours a week, albeit more sporadic where you may have worked more during e.g. harvest time

2) They had so much free time they volunteered to build those churches with architecture far superior to our modern day

3) After the Black Death, the living standards of peasants greatly improved and they could afford meat, nice custom tailored clothes, housing, and lots of free time, things modern day wageslaves can't

4) Under feudalism you only had to give the lord a small portion of your harvest or similar, and you could reason with them.

Under capitalism, you still must pay to legally exist anywhere, as all land is "owned", but the "rent" or "mortgage" you must pay, and the labor required for that, is FAR FAR FAR higher relatively speaking than under feudalism in most cases

5) There has never in the history of all of humanity been such bad wealth inequality as now, the top 1% own more wealth than bottom 95% of humanity combined

This doesn't make up for the fact peasants were playing PvE constantly and all kinds of shit could fuck them up, including the black plague you love so much. People are depressed now because we have too much entertainment frying our brains. The kind of work people are doing in the developed world has a cognitive load that makes it stressful, there are a lot of things you have to balance in your daily life, and it's a complete apples to oranges comparison of the trouble people had to deal with back then. The decline of he west and inequality in our own countries is bad because it's going to make us like India or Africa, we couldn't preserve the wealth and standard of living of the boomer generation of the near past. Medieval serfs absolutely lived harder lives than niggers on food stamps with iphones and cookouts.

1970 minimum wage = $1.60

Atari with pong was $100 = 62.5 hours of minimum wage

2026 minimum wage = $7.25 (let's say $15)

900 / 15 = 60 hours of work to afford PS5 Pro

Now let's compare buying the median house

$23,000 (1970) / $1.60 = 14375 hours of MINIMUM WAGE to afford median house

Median house is now $420,000, you would have to make over $29/h to match the MINIMUM WAGE of a boomer in 1970 in home purchasing power

I know this retarded opinion/shitpost gets posted a lot and always gets debunked, but for anyone living under a rock:
games started cutting costs by removing individual features from the physical copy such as the cart, the booklet, and eventually doing away with the physical copy altogether. games are also using more stock assets in the engine, not developing their own engine at all or even tailoring existing ones, less content, some games aren’t even finished, GaaS, DLC, microtransactions, and the biggest cost offset of video games of all is economy of scale. it doesn’t cost any more money to sell a second piece of software and if you consider that gaming is far more popular today than it was even 10 years ago and runaway population growth, the buying market is much larger and you have a better chance of making your money back. given the state of the industry, no new game should be over $50

Yeah, games used to be more expensive and you were given an expensive-to-produce cartridge which, if you took care of it, will still work 30, 40 years later.

Now, you buy a digital license to a game that can be revoked whenever the retailer feels like it.
These things that you are buying are NOT the same and they should not cost the same.
Digital releases have basically zero production and distribution overhead costs.

That's true if by "poor people" you mean the bottom 95% of the world population (maybe bottom 80% in the US). Owning one residential home that you live in doesn't magically insulate you from inflation, because there's no way for you to realize that price increase unless you choose to go from living in a house to living in a tent. Haven't you seen all of the retirees that own the home they live in but are still poor as fuck? Their savings and pensions haven't kept up with inflation, so they can barely afford day-to-day living expenses and the homes that they do own usually fall into disrepair because they can't even afford maintenance. This is why about 20-30 years ago there started to be a huge push in the US selling Home Equity LOC to retirees, because reverse mortgaging the house was the only way for those poor fucks to pay their bills that kept inflating.

Selling one inflated house so that you can buy another inflated house is a lateral move which does nothing to improve your situation. Being a millionaire on paper means nothing if there isn't a corresponding increase in the quantity of real assets that you own (either tangible assets, or income-producing assets), because inflation by definition means that your increase in paper wealth is actually a decrease in real purchasing power. The only people who really benefit with inflation are those who own enough income-producing assets to surpass the losses from inflation, which is basically just business owners / the investor class.

Inflation necessarily increases real wealth inequality and is economic death, the rate of inflation just determines how quickly that happens.

This is kind of disingenuous because the whole pool being closed in the middle east is causing runaway inflation.

If studios gave less to the useless upper management and investors, they could largely cover the inflation on devs' salaries. We all know where the problem comes from, and it's not games' prices

they just replace you then. that's why high unemployment is being subtly forced. when you know there's a thousand people wanting your job who will take a lower wage because they haven't had work for 2 years and are desperate, you shut the fuck up and do what your told.
