if you actually played it then you should know it's actually not an open world game. Witcher 3, Skyrim and GTA are open world but FF7R are 5 interconnected maps kind of like Ocarina of Time. Each region slightly harder to navigate than the previous one.

I don't think cross dressing and gay jokes were really for the American audience. I think that's Japanese humor. Or at least it was back then. Cross dressing now is definitely American, and it is humorous, but the people who do indulge in it do so with complete sincerity and they can ruin your life if you don't play along with them.

It isn't open-world though, it's a series of levels. The game, as the original also did, has a linear structure but a level of depth to each area that makes you believe you aren't 100% being railroaded between conspicuously hallway shaped mountain formations to the area needed for plot progression.
Since FFX, linearity critics have exposed themselves as complete retards that have no idea about game design. FFX was the least linear game of the franchise up until that point.

Rebirth is a faithful adaption of FF7 but with a different combat system

I started replaying this on the PS5 pro since games with PSSR2 look great now, but i forgot how unbelievably horrible some of the textures are. And the pop in is so distracting.

Nibelheim is for some reason the ugliest location in the game. The draw distance is completely botched and there's lots of texture issues like these. The game generally looks great, though. At least on PC.

They'll just have it fly way up in the air like in Secret of Mana. Separate overworld to traverse. Once you hit land, the ship transitions to the ground with a cutscene. The submarine will probably just be like the Tiny Bronco, but underwater. The underwater map is restricted to the center of the Meridian Ocean in the original game, so it's pretty small.
