It's better seen as a case study in failure than a game.

That was entirely offscreen in the game and what little of it they did bother showing was relegated to a movie. Its a simple adventure of a young boy having to learn to man up with his brothers, and the combat(in its current state anyways with all the updates) is about on par with 7 Remake especially once you make your way to the skill tree. Also unlike 7 Remake where the padding sucks compared to the actual proper story sequences you get more out of XV by actually just walking around the world and trying to find all the optional dungeons.Theres flaws with the main campaign for sure but nothing worth dropping the game over

But of course, this plot doesn't work because the game never establishes why the crystal is so important and honestly, the movie doesn't do a good job explaining that either. The game doesn't do a good job explaining why her role as Oracle is important, let alone her backstory with Noctis. As it turns out her presence is what keeps the Starscourge from consuming the world. When she dies, darkness takes over, daemons get stronger, and they destroy the empire from within because their technology is based on using daemon power. Do you see what I mean now? The crystal is important, but that's not pushed very much by the actual game. Maybe some of the parts that were unfinished and cut would've made it clear that the crystal was important.

I assume the original plot was supposed to let you roam freely in the city to establish why the crystal is used to create the wall and give royal blood the ability to wield magic before the invasion happens. But then again, I don't know if the magic wall existed in the original plot since there's no mention of it in the trailer. One thing's for sure, though the Ring of Lucis was Nomura's idea from the start. That's why he changed Noctis's design to the current one with his right hand free of a glove to wear the ring.
