Look I understand for the time it was amazing but looking at it now I mean half of the worlds are straight up mid (stuff like hazy maze cave, tiny huge island, or dire dire docks aren't winning awards) and even in the "good" levels there's plenty of nothingburger missions.
Wow collect 100 coins for a star? Thrilling. Wow collect 8 red coins placed closely together for a star? Thrilling. Wow jump on the lame boss 3 times for a star? Thrilling. And those are just the ones that get repeated. Then there's level specific stuff like "ground pound the chain chomp's post for a star".....oh my god. I'm literally pissing myself in excitement from such an amazing platforming challenge.
Legit I would say like 1/3 of the game is actually fun and yet everyone pretends this game is still one of the greatest 3D platformers of all time.

>is somehow considered as one of the greatest games of all time
>but "duurrrrr iS iT oVeRrAtEd????"
Yes, YES! Fucking obviously! It's literally the single most overrated game of all time.
>>
God I fucking LOVE a game where 1/4th of levels are climbing a mountain up and sometimes climbing a mountain down!
>>

99% of 3D "platformers" are just collectathons designed for toddlers. I literally can't think of any besides Crash that even tried to have some semblance of challenge or level design.

Very true. At least you got something right

Crash is the peak of linear 3D, Banjo is the peak of collectathon 3D, Super Mario Galaxy is the peak of atmospheric 3D.
>>
>>738286208
>banjo is the peak of
shut the hell up.
>walk 5 steps
>congratulations here's a jiggy/jinjo/honeycomb
is not good design for any game, let alone a fucking collectathon. literally just handing out the objects the entire game is meant to be about hunting down.

The DS Remake is underrated
>>
Shut the fuck up retard. Do you realize how many series have the most jank-ass transitions to 3D, that took multiple games to finally figure that shit out if it didn't just straight up kill them outright whereas Mario 64 dunked on all of them on their first fucking try.

0/10 bait

If you don't like conquering mountains you aren't a human. Even the Greeks considered climbing a mountain but never reaching the peak the worst torture imaginable.
>>
>>738285060
ok so where are the better 3d platformers?
>galaxy, sunshine, banjo, crash, spyro, lara, daxter, ratchet
all worse than mario 64 by a considerable margin

Are you so retarded that you think every collectible is meant as some kind of big reward and pat on the back? Do you also throw an autistic tantrum when Mario collects a coin or you get some ammo in RE4?

The collectibles are meant to incentivize exploring the entire stages, the less common collectibles are more well hidden, while the jiggies are more common but the difficulty is that you must collect them all in one run without dying, creating tension. It's a great system.
>>
>>738286874
Mario's physics are completely nonsensical and far separated from reality, plus it has one of the worst cameras of any 3D game.
>>
>>738285060
tldr
it has a fun physics engine and controls. Just play it in coop dx with all the QoL mods and youre all set.
>>
>>738287515
No, I think the important collectibles should be a big reward. Yes that's kind of fundamental good game design.
Notice how I didn't complain about notes? Which you seem to have mixed up with jiggies. Jiggies are the stars of banjo, notes are the coins. There's nothing wrong with notes being commonly placed, like you said that encourages exploration. But when you're finding the big important collectibles just thrown out in the open with no effort, that's terrible design.

Banjo Kazooie on N64 is one of the harder collectathons to 100%, both in terms of difficulty of finding everything and in terms of getting all jiggies without dying. Not really sure what your point is. The difficulty and reward is more than sufficient given the main pull is the exploration and vibes/atmosphere.
>>
I was about 12 I think. I remember being pissed at how ugly and kind of childish it was compared to SMW. I really didn't like the N64 graphics
>>
>>738285060
You're right, OP, but just remember that this praise is coming from people who consider a shovelware James Bond game to be a revolutionary masterpiece

>video game isn't realistic
No shit, retard.
God I hate zoomers.
