In Fallout 4 on the highest difficulty you can only save when you sleep in a bed

It's great until you've been playing an hour without seeing a bed and the game suddenly crashes to desktop

I don't think there's anything wrong with save scumming using in-game saves. If it was against the dev's vision for the game they would disable it themselves. If you're on an emulator and you're reflexively making a save state for every event though, maybe you just need to unbind your save state keys.

At this point, games sometimes don't even have manual saves and just autosave whenever they feel like it. At one point, I would save twice just to be absolutely sure it worked. Now, I maybe save when I want to turn the game off and come back to it tomorrow.
