Is trial by error game design considered good game design? It seems that as gamers have gotten older, gotten jobs, started families, there has been a huge pushback against trial and error. Modern gamers want the game to be winnable on their very first try, but does that not take us back to the issue of movie games becoming more prevalent nearly 20 years ago?

look up "mario maker pick a door" and tell me if you think trial and error is good game design

It's a combination of people being more retarded than ever, Mr. Kikestein cracking the whip on everyone more than ever and retards who take it to heart that influencers finish entire single player games in a few days without realizing ITS THEIR DAMN JOB YOU DON'T FUCKING NEED TO BEAT THE GAME THAT FAST FFS.

>>738290482Ngl not tracking any of this experience as gamers. Are you sure you used the correct term?
>trial and error as in "absolute bullshit IWBTG tier fail states that value rote memorization more than raw skill"Bad.>trial and error as in "it is literally ever possible to see a game over screen and suffer repercussions for lack of skill"Good.
>>738290482Depends on how it’s handled. Every game is inherently trial and error to some degree because the first time you play anything, you don’t know what to fully expect unless you looked up everything ahead of time.
>>738290482I don't want to make sweeping declarations about everyone born after 2006, but it seems dying in a video game is considered an unacceptable failure of the designer to make a game that was easy enough. Maybe a lot of games in the 90s went too far in the other direction, but dying in a video game and coming back was a learning experience that taught you what not to do.
