The only aspect of ww2 that bleeds into the story is the occupation by a foreign power, and even that is more reminiscent of the Chinese experience in the 1800s, with the rampant drug use, slums, and segregated cities than anything Japan ever really went through.
They should just reboot it so they can finally let Selvaria live like they always wanted.
