How effective is the Solid Snake conversation method?
>>
The snake conversation method?
>>
japanese people do this
>>
People ask me stuff first so I have a hard time utilizing this.
>>
>>738293476
Japanese conversations have a lot of "yep uh-huh right" to show that you're actively listening to what the other person is saying, and apparently the penchant for Snake to repeat what he's just been told as a question is part of that. Maybe in English, it should be translated as some variant of "Got it," but I don't really want localizers to make shit up much.
>>
>>738293476
This is how Japanese People speak
>>
>>738293476
I got icecream too. But I have icecream everyday I work because I always have a tub in the work freezer.
>>
I do this in conversation. It works.
>t. Autist
>>
It also works for boomers. In fact it works wonders for boomers.
You can also do the "ok" "yeah" "uh huh" "mmh" trick with boomers. It will up your perceived rapport with them by a single-digit numerical factor.
If you keep having conversations with boomers go awry because of their bullshit, use one of these tricks.

Talking to extreme introverts is painful. They don't respond whenever you say something, not even a "hm" or an "ok" just pure silence when you speak to them. It's really difficult to tell if they understand what you said or if they're just ignoring you.

The Japanese go fucking hogwild with it, they have to go "yeah, ok, sure thing, got it, cool, right" after every single fucking word you say. In America you just nod and go "mm" after every couple sentences or pause in conversation and you're good

Making sounds, nodding, and occasionally chuckling is the autism meta. Once befriended some skank at Panda Express even though I’m incredibly autistic. She’d literally stand right next to me as I’m cooking or washing dishes and rant about stupid shit. I can’t even remember what she said because I wasn’t really paying attention, I’d just nod and go “mhm” over and over. One time she even got me in trouble with the manager because she took lunch with me and she could not shut the fuck up and let me go back to work until the manager had to step in and end our lunch break. Fuck Panda Express, I should’ve gotten a job at Little Caesar’s

>>
>>738296060
I get you. It sucks to get lumped in like that. Autism is a lot of different things, and it's a little different for every case. Anti-social behavior is actually not one of the core traits, but it tends to arise naturally because the autistic person is continually shunned for being "different" and just gives up at a young age. Plus, feeling actual fucking pain from making eye contact for too long doesn't help.
Some people just genuinely like being alone or prefer a little less human contact than others. Nothing autistic about that. Anyone giving you flak for that needs to shut the fuck up and do some actual goddamn research.

I do this with an internet friend. He always has some fun topic to talk about and I’m the least interesting and most unlikable person in the world so I never have anything interesting to say. So a lot of our conversations end up being just me repeating what he just told me. Sometimes I’ll take something he said that somehow relates to me in a way and try to go on a personal rant about it. But most of the time I’m like a chatbot that’s worn thin and has gotten to a point where it parrots back what you said almost word for word.
I wish I was an interesting and likable person. But I can only try and fail so many times. Honestly, I’m just counting the days until he and our friend group ghost me or just outright block me

It's "ne ge," which is a verbal idiom that they use when they're trying to think of something. Sort of like how English speakers use "um" or "uh". It's more literally similar to "that thing". Kind of like "Hey man, did you hear about... you know, that thing... the thing that... that..."

Trying to relate it to yourself is fine in moderation, but if you do it too much it just looks like you're trying shift the conversation from them to you. The best strategy is to ask meaningful questions about whatever they are talking about. It shows that you're paying attention and have an interest in hearing them talk more. Everyone loves being heard.

I got old and now just tell people. It's great because you can see the life drain out of people's eyes when they were just using it for small talk and thus said small talk ends because -they- don't want to continue, leaving me the victor.
Usually, the few times it doesn't work mean I now regularly talk to a 75 year old lady who used to be big in the glasgow organised crime scene (or is good/demented enough to pretend) and a guy who is trying to take a photo of everything in the world. Also it doesn't fucking work if they want a fag from me first fuck just take your smoke and go I want to smoke in silence.

It's worth noting that most people don't care if you're being a little impolite. It's nice to show that you're listening the whole time, but you can just say hi and go do something else, and they should be fine with it. It's not the nicest way to talk to someone, but sometimes you have more important shit to do than make eye contact.

Yes, the snake conversation method, it's a conversation strategy that revolves around you repeating the last part of whatever your conversational partner said in a bid to appear interested, concluding with a "hmm..." whenever the conversation sounds like it's coming to a close.
It's based off the dialogue for the character "Snake" from the hit video game "Metal Gear Solid".

Snake, you seriously don't know what /v/ is? It's the video game board on a famous website known as "4chan". It's founded by a person called Moot. He disappeared one day and never came back. Moot, or known as Christopher Poole. He was the founder of 4chan, Snake. Twenty years ago, he created 4chan to be a copy of the Japanese forum 2chan. Not much is known about him. Some say he even has ties to powerful people like Jefferey Epstein! One day, he just vanished from the public eye. Some users say he doesn't exist, but I don't believe that. Be careful snake.

I made games as a teen growing up for fun (I was terrible at it), and I found myself falling into this trap whenever I wanted to have a lot of exposition. Having the main character focus in on what you want to explain next is an easy and lazy way to avoid walls of dialog without any breaks.

Yes Snake. It's a conversation method revolving around repeating back your interlocutor's statements as questions. This is interpreted as a cue to elaborate.
>>
>Colonel, I don't get it. Why was it so important for me to infiltrate this place? It's an image board on the internet, you could've gotten anyone to do this.
>Snake, it's crucial to have you on this mission. While it's true I could have sent a different agent, or even Otacon, I don't want to risk them becoming compromised.
>Compromised?
>Yes, Snake. You're manly, you have a sexy voice, you're muscular, you smoke, you don't care about politics beyond your job as a soldier, and barely legal women want you to ravage them.
>At least take me out for dinner first.
>Very funny, Snake. I mention all that is because you're exactly the opposite of this website's typical userbase. There is no danger at all of you becoming transfixed by the content on 4chan and losing sight of your mission.
>You're making it sound like some kind of virus. How dangerous can this place be?
>More than you could ever imagine. Users spend upon hours wasting away, enagging in meaningless, circular arguments, often without any relation to the topic at hand, often times thinking they're speaking to one person when, in reality, many others misused the site's anonymity to enter the conversation with intent to worsen discourse.
>But isn't the point of this place to talk about video games? Isn't that supposed to be fun?
>In theory, yes. That was the original purpose of the /v/ board. But that long since changed. Screenshots of comments from other social media sites, gossip about internet "celebrities", colloquially reffered to as "ecelebs", thinly-veiled excuses to upload borderline pornographical content involving fictional women of varying ages, sales charts that quickly devolve into shouting matches, threads clearly baiting people into political, religious or racist diatribes, etc. Everything except actual video game discussion. Rumor has it most users don't even play video games anymore.
>Sounds like hell. Why don't they just leave?
>And where would we go, Snake?
>Outside, maybe? Wait, "we"?

The other day I was in a thread about video game writing and some retard brought up mgs as an example of good writing. When I disagreed he was insistent that I just "didn't get it" and was "taking it too seriously". So no, there definitely are Kojima dickriders that will claim mgs has good writing
>>
>>738315161
I like the guy because of his idiosyncrasies. He's one of the few writers in the industry who will actually engage with politics, he's clearly well read and relatively smart and he doesn't take himself too seriously. And more importantly, he's clearly not trying to write "conventionally", he's talked about being inspired by Pynchon, so he's obviously trying to juggle high brow and low brow elements and is aware that they clash. Of course he isn't nearly as good a writer as Pynchon, so his stuff feels more like Neal Stephenson, with all the gratuitous info dumps about tangentially related trivia.

I will say, however, that he also seems to be at that stage in his career where he seems to be deliberately hamming up his writing quirks that probably started off as unintentional, because he figures people consider them his trademarks.

Did skullface want constant broader war? At least liquid explicitly wanted that, but that seems like the logical consequence of killing of major languages. Look at shit like africa where there is a different langauge every 3 feet. It contributes to constant inter tribal warfare.
Instead of dooming a few languages to die in a generation or two, Skullface's plan seems to just doom the world to broader identity suffering over a longer period of time as small languages fsnuff each other out but on a smaller scale and more often.

Basically yeah, thanks to their enormous success back in the day 'comic book' has become pretty much synonymous with superheroes and that genre has been deep in the gutter for a long time now. There are smaller publishers putting out better material in other genres but virtually all of that is obscure and out of sight of the mainstream (with the notable exception of 2000AD with Judge Dredd, which actually released a new issue today).

Also some of the pastel horse show comics were really enjoyable.

Yes but I would say that even the less popular ones suck. People now can't write and do good art

It's kind of crazy that mimicking Snake is actually an effective way to get people to enjoy talking with you.

same... i have tried to be interesting and funny, but i think it usually has the opposite effect, so instead i chose to be quiet and say as little as possible, i am almost a husk of a person, but i like them and want to be liked by who i consider my friends... but God... i live in fear that they will just forget about me, many times they have, i feel like a ghost even though i have ALWAYS been there too... i just feel like i am no ones friend, like they are hanging out with me out pure pity... the worst part is that i am trying, i trying so hard, but sometimes i have the urge to let go and go back to that solitary life... i dont like it, not that i have a taste of what friendship is like, but i am scared, scared of being dropped aside and forgotten...

It makes the person think you're interested in whatever they are talking about. A person with a hobby/interest would love to keep on talking about it if they think the other person wants to know more about it

When conversations come to a close...

The more you try to do things right the more you will want to push away from talking.

People who talk a lot speak their mind, rather the interest is kept in the way you intonate or set a story, and that can only be done genuinely if you care about what you talk about. That's why they always seem to have interesting stories.

Only about 1/20 people will be passionate about something, the rest are all bots. If you struggle to bring up topics, just blurt what you find amusing that week, you can recycle the same topic with others and even recount something about those to each other. If you find one of those 1/20 they will do their part to keep the conversation going out of consideration for you, because empathy is that rare.

>Snake, did you know your little friend, Dr Emmerich, is a tranny janny? I was monitoring his activity on his computer -- and noticed he's a moderator for 4chan's anime board. Do you know what that means, dear brother? He spends every single waking moment of his life, sifting through garbage posts made by schizophrenics, trying to keep "order" on a dying 20 year old website -- all for a false sense of superiority over his fellow loser "friends". You want to know what's the best part about all of this? He does it all for free!

Whenever I get responses like these I instantly feel like the other side of the convo either is completely disinterested in what I say or the whole acquitance/friendship is just a hoax.
I am somehow overly conscious of such behavior.

Some of those come off as attempts to say as little as possible in the conversation. The person can be genuinely interested in what you have to say, though, and just not have much to add.

I had one friend that I made here that never spoke much and I was wondering what's up with him but he did seem to listen. Later I found out he's simply autistic, enjoys listening to me talking about my interests but was struggling to respond to me. But when it came to his own interests if I dared pry him about 2hu lore he could loredump all day.

He talks the same way as the CIA guy does in DKR, so I think it's more of a general glowie dialect.

>You crave even bigger keks, even bigger bait. You care nothing for screencaps, or monetary compensation, or even getting a GF.
>The only thing that will come to satisfy your cravings... is (You)s. The only thing I've ever known is (You)s.
>You saw those anons, didn't you!? Every single one is a victim of trolling somewhere in the world.
>And they'll make fine shitposters in the next... thread.
>Start a thread, cast the bait, rustle jimmies, then bump with the victims, blogpost with them, and feed them back onto the catalog.
>I've been doing this a long time. It's a perfectly logical system.
>On the IRC, you and I are valuable commodities.
>But back "home", we're nothing but wizards.

People keep claiming this is a Japanese thing but a few months after I started a job some 20 years ago I got told as part of my performance review that people had the impression I wasn't listening to them when I talked to them because I wasn't communicative enough and I was told to do exactly this to show that I was following what they were saying. I was told the technique was called "active listening".
