Does it have anything to do with yugioh? I want to pirate a good card game on my modded Switch desu.

no

It's a different TCG entirely, the single player mode is decent enough so it's worth trying out
I had a solid 50 hours of fun with the game
>>
>>738296958
there's a switch port of the latest yugioh game, bwo.

Completely different franchise mate. As for the game and card game, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who plays either, let alone find someone to discus the series with. Cardfight as a series doesn't even get threads on /a/. The franchise just never peaked, at least here in the US.

it was a thing for a bit, but then they rebooted it, and then they rebooted it

A big problem with the game was the tribe system locking your decks and making 90% of product being released completely worthless to you because they would only support like 3 out of the 50 tribes each set
>>
Not OP
But anyone would redpill me about this game?
I did the tutorial and somewhat got the hang of the very basics. But if yugi taught me anything, one thing is how the game teaches you to play and the other is how it's actually played, so yeah.
I kinda want to get into this because admittedly the tutorial was cool getting the supper infinite attack card.
Also i think the character design is also really cute.

It's definitely not Yu-Gi-Oh even though they're both anime card games. That's fun if you're looking for a card game video game thing. Just don't expect it to be exactly like Yu-Gi-Oh. The game works differently and you'll have to learn what's good.

This game isn't like that, in fact even its anime plays by the actual rules of the game with the exact same card effects
It'll mostly depend on which archetype you play, some are more complex than others

Yeah Japan has hundreds of card game franchises, a lot of which have games. There's also Future Card Buddyfight that has a few games on the 3DS. The Duel Masters franchise never left and Bakugon is also still around. So I'm sure those still probably get games.

Meanwhile we needed Hearthstone to make absolute bank for business suits to think
>Maybe Western players enjoy TCG video games too?
And now Master Duel, Magic Arena and Pokemon Pocket are all top earners

The only relation Vanguard has to YGO is the creator being one of Takahashi's assistants on the manga

Is it single player? I don't really want to climb ladders

It is single player
Shadowverse also had a single player game on Switch

Other than the franchise being started by someone that assited Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of yu-gi-oh, the two games couldn't be any more different from each other. You will find flashy card animations, characters calling out card names and doing similar voice over through duels in a similar fashion to, say, tag force or duel links, but this never got as elaborated as featuring 3d models doing motions and what not. Game wise the vanguard ones kind of respect your time, but a single duel can take a lot of time if you don't know what you're doing (the usual).

I'd argue that the peak of the franchise was the original run of the show with Sendo and the crew growing up and literally graduating. When Link Joker was a legit broken thing and the MC was evil and had to duel his lifelong rival on the protagonist seat. The subsequent remakes kind of killed the momentum even if they ended up saving the game financially.

Get the second Dear Days, it has more cards. Grab the DLCs since you're pirating.

Vanguard is very straight forward, especially since you can't brick anymore while riding up.
The only interaction during an opponent's turn is you getting the chance to block attacks and then it turns into a game of math and probability.
Most of the time, you're just reading card effects and turning card sideways.

Not very YGO at all. Honestly, I think Vanguard's core rules are way too restrictive, like a reverse YGO in that sense, but it's fun for what it is. Never tire of using Shadow Paladins. Sacrificing your own units for big gains is sick.

UNC that's such an old card from an extinct format. Unlike yugioh vanguard just moved on. By this point some of those factions and nations do not even exist anymore.

I know, but it's MY old card from an extinct format. I know it's a shit one too. In fact, so is this pile of trash. But that's why I edit older decks in Tabletop Sim to be playable in either Limit Break or G, taking cues from the effects of later iterations in V and Overdress without making them OP.
Even if they're extinct, they will never die.
>>
>>738303510
It's funny you call it shit, I played the shit out of this deck in the 3DS games. I really liked those games.
>>
>>738303743
I did too, but OG Shadow Paladins required way too much investment for not enough pay-off. I mostly used the Revenger archetype in the second 3DS game.
Still quite fun, but the boss cards lacked the aesthetic I liked from the Blaster Dragons. Aqua Force was typically my go-to clan, since I liked how their marine army gimmick was integrated into the effects, but pretty much everything was fun in Lock on Victory.
>>
>>738301926
>like a reverse YGO in that sense
Odd to say for a series that took heavy inspiration from YGO, but it's true
a YGO duel can last anywhere from 0 turn to 20 turns and there are 0 deckbuilding restrictions aside from the banlist
a cardfight lasts between 4 and 6 turns and nearly half your deck is taken by your triggers and perfect guards; also cards are designed in a way that you can rarely mix archetypes
>>
>>738304794
from what I recall only the first run of vanguard let you actually mix shit, after that are pretty much locked into factions the hard way. I remember because at the start not all clans/nations had enough cards to be played pure and because mixing the Blaster dudes was the win-con of a certain dude.
