I never find open world games to be fun like GTA because the only freedom i can do in this game is shooting random people freely. Is it just me? No im not talking about requiring markers or telling me where to go.

>>738299758
there are tons of things to in San Andreas and Vice City. there wasnt anything to do until GTAV which i enjoyed alot because it had alot more natural strangers and freaks stuff for you to find and do.

GTA freedom was never "do whatever you want". its still a crime based sandbox. GTA Online solved your problem and you dont play it because its rightfully shit when it introduces more and more outlandish shit that isnt stealing cars and killing peopl on the street.

My favourite thing to do in any of these games is that one barebones Assassination mod in GTAV and just cruise and play music with the clock set to IRL time.

Morrowind & Gothic 2.
GTA games were never good in terms of depth of their open world. It was about the vibe and nostalgia of the decade they portrayed through exaggerated stereotypes. Which is why R* hasn't made a good GTA game since SA.
>>
>>738299758
Thats why i liked Driver more. Only thing these games have going for them is swerving through traffic while being chased by police. At least have nice driving.
>>
>>738300579
If were talking about freedom and feeling like you're in a real world, Morrowind doesn't do the job and Gothic isn't as impressive because you're stuck in a specific fantasy world so the feeling like you can do anything "IRL" isn't as good. But I agree that they're more deep, just the feeling of natural life isn't as present.

I read that Rockstar recently tried to get the rights for this song to appear in GTA 6 for about 7 grand, but they told Rockstar to literally go fuck themselves, so sometimes it is the artists just being retarded and not knowing how much exposure being in the game will give them.

Exposure does mean fuck all. You know how out of his 100 yearly gorrillion streams on Spotify, Snoop Dog earns like 1000 bucks and some change ? ... No so I just checked, out of his 1billion streams he only earns 45000$.
So 7k for a song out of a 9B$ revenue is an insult, the band counter-offered 75k which is more than generous and reasonable, and Rockstar refused because they're evil.
Imma tell you, knowing people in the music and sound industry, you don't earn money with exposure but with contracts and royalties, and if your country has good welfare you have a special status as an artist. That's how you can afford surviving and working (because working as an artist means you just have the right to keep working as an artist, know what I mean?). Even with millions of views on Youtube or Spotify streams, in the end, when you're a musician, unless you're fucking Michael Jackson or some shit, you're literally nobody, you're worth nothing.

It's something you appreciate when you're a little kid, unaware of how video games actually work. Even a cardboard world like GTA's sparked your imagination in all kinds of ways, and you simply didn't realise where the limits were. I remember how I actually believed that if I could get out of bounds, I would find more of the game instead of an endless void.

There are several good reasons why you shouldn't sell the rights of one of your most successful works to an incredibly rich company for literal peanuts. It's really not just about money, there's a system of power, a master-slave mechanic going on, and you shouldn't accept that. Same goes in all fields of work, from putting fries in a bag to making music.

Why did they drop the ball with soundtracks so hard starting with IV? You have Vice City and San Andreas both with legendary soundtracks and tons and tons of recognizable artists and top 100 list songs, then you get IV and V which both have utterly trash soundtracks made up of mostly unknown artists and songs and weak as fuck songs from recognized artists. Now with GTA VI on the horizon, I'm prepared for the game to have the worst soundtrack by far as it tries to play "modern" music which from 2015 and beyond is the most awful shit to ever be created in human history. I would do that shit in every game. I still do it even though I realize that devs can't think of everything and even if they cared they don't have enough time and money to keep adding more. Hunting for secrets and out of bounds shit was more fun in the past because devs would care a lot more about that. Nowadays if a feature isn't in your face, it means normalfags will not see it and therefore it's wasted dev time so all that's left is finding exploits and the like.

Same, even though I loved the games back then and played them 24/7 for years. Playing them today it's just blatantly clear that the music and atmosphere carried them. >Also I think old GTA are the best open world games ever. Modern open world is filled with bullshit fetch quest and throw a million of stats and objects that mean shit at the end of the day.
Even nu-Rockstar games are infinitely better than the rest simply because they actually force you to explore to find stuff. I actually argued with a retard this week who was insisting RDR2 had nothing else to do other than the missions which is complete bullshit, to this day whenever I replay that game I still find new shit I had never seen. The thing is you actually have to explore because the map won't automatically tell you where everything is.

The last time I was able to get into GTA 3 series was trying to do as many of the side missions as possible before starting the first main mission. I would always start with the ambulance missions since they're some of the hardest and if you finish it you'll have enough to buy a secondary property and save without having to go to the hotel or safehouse at the start like you're supposed to. Getting to the other islands to do the side missions at the start was pretty fun too. But just playing the game normally isn't as fun anymore.

It’s all a bit grubby now. They should consider the Phoenix Nights approach and just pay the cheaper rights that allow your on house band cover the song. Or if it were old (read: talented Rockstar) they could just do weird Al style parodies and not pay anything which would absolutely be in the GTA style.

Part of the problem with that is that Rockstar doesn't want to repeat tracks from earlier games, so the list of songs they can actually get is slimmer every time. They're filthy rich so I doubt they really care that much about licensing costs, no matter how nuts record companies have become about them over time.
>>
>>738323025
>They're filthy rich so I doubt they really care that much about licensing cost
That's not true as they've constantly not updated licences and any re-release of previous games would have missing tracks.
>>
>>738323140
That's more that they don't give a shit about their old games
>>
>>738301181
>>738323025
They reuse the same bands though so wang chung was in VC and now it's also in VI but now with a different song of theirs.
So they could always get other michael jackson songs etc
>>
>>738323025
>Part of the problem with that is that Rockstar doesn't want to repeat tracks from earlier games
Source?
From the top of my head there's Steppin Out from Vice City which is also in V, Tainted love from VCS is also in V.
And San Andreas has a bunch of hip-hop songs which were sampled from songs that are in Vice City.
Rockstar do seem to try to keep the radios unique but they don't seem to be against using banger songs in more than one GTA game either.
But VI will have no MJ songs, the Jackson Estate are lunatics who think the songs are worth more than they actually are. MJ songs are precious don't get me wrong but today's kids don't even know who he was simply because his songs are completely disappearing from mainstream media due to licensing costs.
>>
>>738323456
Yeah they like to go back to the same handful of artists for whatever period they're covering. I wouldn't be surprised if they have more MJ music in VI but I don't really know what they'd use. Maybe something from Bad instead of Thriller this time.
>>

Huh? Every time I come across a radio feels like half their playlist actually is exactly that old stuff, bc not even zoomers want to listen to other zooms.

Something I really liked about Vice City (and San Andreas to a lesser degree) is all the arcade elements like rampages (and pills, and health pickups), and all the weapon pickups you can find if you take the time to explore, and mean you can save money you'd otherwise blow at the gun shop. It makes the game feel less structured and more zany, like GTA 1 and 2.

problem is Watch Dogs Legion already did a new-future dystopian version of London, and it kinda sucked, which is a shame because "GTA but it's Children of Men" could work, maybe
it'd be like a spiritual successor to GTA London AND GTA 2, in a way

it's the only way you're gonna be able to make a game about England with guns in it these days unless they go back to the 60s entirely, which I'd prefer they did in San Fierro if that's where they're going

I still think the map is very beach weighted, the story drags, and a lot of missions aren’t that fun. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it, but I think SA perfected the whole formula. Aside from eating hotdogs and hiring taxis I think they’re all just the first one essentially rehashed with a new, impressive, lick of paint.

half of the singleplayer (or all of it) will require you to be online in multiplayer.
they will have some kind of always-online hub world where you start the single player missions from the always-online world. you either phase into single player missions or it will be some kind of mixture with some multiplayer while you drive between locations for example.

Yeah, it's not even possible to do at least half of the side missions at the start, which partly defeats the purpose of making a perfect starter save like that. Still a pretty fun challenge to do what you can from the earliest possible point though.

I unironically liked this outfit and usually wore it. Made Tommy look like some sophisticated Ivy League school gangster.

Morrowind. Before Cyberpunk, GTA was the closest one could get to having an open world RPG experience in a modern setting, and SA was the closest to realizing that idea's potential, though IV isn't a bad compromise.
Saints Row had potential but kneecapped itself instead of iterating on the formula.
