>>738319372The 3D era games chose a comic aesthetic because making realistic graphics look good was difficult back then, due to technological limits, yes. The idea that they were going for "realistic" but it just so happened to come out looking cartoony is wrong though. These covers are a perfect representation for the aesthetic they deliberately chose. The covers and the textures in game are basically 1:1. It's even more blatant with GTA 3. If they wanted to make it realistic, they could have used real life photos for character textures, as many games did.
