It trapped him in the bunker along with the sacrifice, whose spirit lingered, hateful and angry. It eventually began to slip out of the bunker and kidnapping children. Their souls become amalgamations you fight during the game. The scientist eventually confronts the sacrifice, hoping that he can repent and soothe her soul. You are not told the result of this confrontation but you can guess what it was because the sacrifice is one of the final bosses.It's getting kinda long so I'll continue next post.

Talking to the few remaining townspeople and examining things like Asgore's truck reveals that the Roaring took its toll in lives, including both your parents. Monster Teen shows up to your house and says he got a new scavenger job, someone wants "equipment" back from the bunker. You go inside. The bulk of the gameplay happens, you fight weird deformed shit like hyperrealistic Froggits and a different version of Snowy's mom and a Japanese face stealing demon pretending to be Susie and a literal FNAF section. The monster of that section is Monster Teen btw, and the game makes your browser open pictures like this while you fight it. Anyways you fight, you learn to let go, and it's time for the final confrontation. You encounter the sacrifice, if you somehow didn't figure it out by this point, it's Dess. She's tall and deformed. You fight her but no matter what you eventually get killed by her. Someone gives you a message to go back and open a specific door if you want a different ending. That someone turns out to be the creature that tricked the scientist. Again, if you somehow didn't figure it out yet, it's FRIEND. His goal was to basically absorb all of those souls Dess unwittingly gathered, and spread darkness across the world so Darkners would become the dominant species. It turns out Deltarune already happened and ended here. Kris banished the Angel's Heaven and in the process destroyed the balance of light and dark. Kris was erased from existence. FRIEND then made like a hundred vessels and Chris was the closest thing to perfect, so he set you out on the light world. But you didn't do whatever it is he wanted of you so now this is the new plan. Yada yada you fight you kill FRIEND and take the Memory Shard from him, which lets you save Dess's soul and move on, happy(?) end

Things like the Susie vs Lancer scene and everything about King there fit well with how the game is now, even if the main portion of that chapter was lighthearted.Chapter 2's normal route is the one that sticks out the most. It barely advances the main plot or themes, most of what happens is inconsequential fluff, the wackiness is cranked to beyond even what Undertale did, and the dark world ending is the quaintest so far. Yet again I say 2's weird route feels more in line with the direction the game is taking.
