Not even remotely the best setting, might be one of the worst for an assassin's creed game since you don't have a lot of tall architecture to climb

I remember really liking Revelations as a kid for being an actual political complot like the first game rather than entirely alien bullshit.

Not really, brotherhood and revelations were essentially just expansions for 2.

>>738323390
dude it was originally intended to be a mobile game that was turned into a main title to buy them more time to make 3, that's why it's a straight up asset flip of Brotherhood
any ideas they had for a "final" game went out the window after the massive financial success of 2 and Brotherhood.
plus the game gives absolutely no resolution to Desmond's plotline, so it makes no sense at all as a final title.

Brotherhood's an asset flip of 2. Ezio having three games was a mistake.

Nobody really cared about the desmond plot after brotherhood, the modern era story stopped being interesting after the first game, why else would they remove it from the black flag remake?
>>
>>738326760
>why else would they remove it from the black flag remake?
Except there are still Modern Day segments. They're going to be happening in "Rifts" sort of like how Shadows does the Animus Ego section meaning we're likely playing some rando trying to play Devils of the Caribbean and either Ego or the Assassins hack their Animus VR so they can play through Edward's memories.
>>
>>738323334
this was the most jarring thing about it
we didn't need a 10 hour tutorial for a fucking AC game where 90% of the time you're just pressing RT and X
>>
>>738326760
Black Flag's modern day had nothing to do with Desmond and 3 was the game that killed him off.
whatever your feelings about it are, the original intention WAS to have Desmond as the series' main character. it's precisely the success of 2 and Brotherhood that made them drift away from him in favor of finding more historic settings to monetize, and using whatever modern day contrivances they need to tell those stories without putting Desmond in the mix.
>>
>>738327254
I never said it did, and him dying in the third game was reason enough to realize its an unnecesary adition and focus on the story of the guy in the box art instead, dont get me wrong it was good in the first for the novelty and 2 is tolerable but i guess someone realized that and killed him off in 3 just to backpedal on black flag, also rouge should be a dlc
>>
>>738323176
as someone who "was there," Ass 3 was average but a notable step down from 2. Not great but not terrible. People including me thought it was boring in many places but a solid game. It was more disappointment that it wasn't as good as 2 more than anything. The ship combat being a highlight. Ass 4 then came out completely blowing it out of the water. And then the series went full slop.
Looking back, 1-4 were good games with Ass 3 being the weakest consistently on average and 4 having the best and worst (ship play vs land play) segments.
People give Ass 3 a hard time and unfairly pin it as being the first ass slop game but it holds its own and breathed new life that would sustain until the true enshitification freefall after Black Flag

Because Ubisoft hasn't made a good game in at least 12 years and demakes are nine times out of ten worse than the originals?

Around when this came out, one of my friends said it sucks playing an Assassin's Creed game set where there are no tall buildings.

what's it like being a third worlder? how can you not see the appeal of driving bongistanis out of your lands?
My personal hero is Daniel Morgan. he was a bong solider at one point and got 500 lashes (supposed to be a death sentence) for beating the shit out of a bong officer. He claimed that the bongs only gave him 499 lashes and that they owed him one and he spent the rest of his life hating and killing bongistani scum, including at the battle of cowpens

This was my first Ass Creed game, and I quite liked it, although the collecathon bullshit is quite excessive. The game also features Edward Kenway's son and grandson, so Black Flag fans should definitely play it.

IV is a a prequel to III, so it would actually make sense to Black Flag first.

The remaster looks significantly worse than the original and has major visual issues particularly surrounding fire.

it's "hope you like fog and occlusive lighting, because you've got it!"

It at least sometimes works well solely in forests. Outside of that it doesn't.
>>
>>738333207
This was not it "working well" by the way just to be clear. It's also insane how they ruined Haytham's assassination but Charles Lee's is so much better.

>>
>>738332918
Edward's memories might come before Connor's story, but Black Flag as a game is a sequel through and through. The Modern Day takes place a year after Desmond dies, you see videos with his corpse, it mechanically builds up from III with the parkour and boat, the credits scene with kid Haytham really only works if you've played III first and have heard his adult self say how his dad brought him to that theatre once, etc.
>>
>>738323296
>not best setting
Well, I guess we found out you're not an American

>>738323334
Yeah the pretentious dad who can't even climb a tree is why I've only played this AC once
>>
>>738324723
The actual Charles Lee was one of the few American generals who implemented guerilla warfare tactics and not just the typical European “everyone stands in a line and takes turns shooting each other” style of war. You’d think a game about assassins would do something interesting with that.
>>
>>738326760
I think it had more about the fact they made up an arbitrary end of the world year which wrote themselves into a corner.
>>
>>738323176
Its a fun game if you play it like an hack and slash action game instead of a stealth game.

Mirage is fun, good setting, and short enough to not be a drag. Tools are fun to use, no one forces you to use the teleport kills other then that one tutorial, and I got to stab Roshan lots of times.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want to know what Assassin's Creed was originally mean to be about, jankiness and all, then you can really only ever recommend AC1 because that's the purest version of AC to date --a medieval hitman with a focus on social stealth and investigating your targets before taking them down-- with the devs gearing the IP towards mass appeal as early as the second entry.
AC2 would be my second recommendation, because as much as it changed directions towards a more actiony, blockbuster feel in story and MC presentation, it was still ultimately the second game in the entire franchise and so mechanically close to the first one while expanding in city layout, weapons, stealth techniques, etc. AC2 is to this day the fan favorite, the San Andreas or FFVII of Assassin's Creed, so you can't go wrong with it even if the Modern Day expects you come off of AC1.
Last but not least, Unity. Doesn't play at all like the original games, but it's the last AC they made where they *tried* to make the game be about an assassin in a big, crowded city investigating targets and taking them down. Beautiful game to this day, with fancy parkour animations and stealth tools you can exploit to create Deus Ex lite encounters in missions. And narratively it's fairly disconnected from anything else, at the cost of having a pretty poor story set in a great setting.

But seriously, give Ass Creed 1 a try. Just keep in mind the open world isn't *meant* to be full of distractions or sidequests, it's there as a traversal sandbox between actual objectives.
>>
I'd say hexe has the best setting even though it's not out yet. Witch trials Germany sounds cool #ad
