>this made boomers punch holes in their wall in sheer rageWhy were boomers so bad at videogames?
>holy waterYou didn't beat the game.
>>738333848Relatively speaking Castlevania 1 is a good challenge but by no means ball busting difficult
>>738333946Axes also trivialize this part, and even daggers or the clock make for betters subweapon. Boomers overvalued the Cross way too much
No do it with the default whip, champ.
>>738333848Now post your own video
>>738333848yeah if you look up a strategy on how to get through an area and kill the boss its not that difficult, i will grant you that most people dont consider the most unintuitive and dangerous way possible to approach most areas
>>738334073>Don't use the tools given to youSeems pretty easy if you need extra restrictions for it.
>>738334123No you see I won't play this game because [excuses]
>>738333848Next time I play this game I'm using that romhack that marks the fake blocks
>>738334051>or the clockuseless against death though
Back in my day, I had to deliver newspapers on my bike for a month to get enough money to call the 1-800 number that gives away these secrets and codes when I got stuck. Now kids can learn everything on YouTube for free.
>>738334182>look up a strategyWe didn't have the luxury. There was no internet. You just had to believe the lies your friends told.
>>738333848>took damage
>>738334256Pretty good to reach death damageless, which should give you a okay chance to beat him with the whip. It's still better than the Cross, which doesn't really give you any more options than the whip already does.
>>738334182> Yes dude just be subscribed to nintendo power
>>738333848
>>738334191You didn't beat the game.
>>738333946Holy fpbp
>>738333946>He has to make up extra rules to convince people that the game is hardIt's 100% an intended strategy. It's your reward for holding onto the holy water for 3 stages>>738334525The cross takes out Death's scythes crazy style. It's easily the 2nd best item for this fight
>>738335589>Axes cover the scythes above and can easily land on Death too>Daggers snipe death from across the map with big dps>Clock makes the hallway safe for a full health fightThe Cross' biggest problem is that it lingers too long and covers the same area that the whip covers. It also can lack reach desu
>>738333848>be 18+yo zoomer>look up guide of older video games (or any game considered hard)>watch videos, take notes, and follow meta faggotry to a T>"so ez, lil bro"Zoomers are such clout chasing nigger spawn. The amount of shit games that these little fuckers defend where the default argument is "skill issue" WHEN YOU FUCKING KNOW that little faggot did exactly what I said is enraging. Coming from /vr/ where Zoomshit mappers are excused because "skill issue", I've had enough of them. Between this shit or the string beans who think nobody can tell they lift fake weights on social media, idk which is worse.
>>738336103>Boomers need a guide to tell them to try other weapons than the crossKek
>>738335034Yeah I did
>>738333848too lazy to fetch a crummy pail of water

Oh and it's never the same to read about a strategy rather than watch a video>Most people who played these games were also aged around 6-10 years old
>>738336453The whip's hitbox is always way bigger than I think it is
>>738336489Due to streaming being a thing blind runs are slowly fading away. Certain obstacles only work if you go into the game truly blind
>>738337159
>>738333848This might shock you but there were no save states or rewinds back thenI have never seen anyone below the age of 25 beat a 20th century game without relying on them heavily
>>738333848>>738336453>30yo man pretends to be a teen
>>738335912Cross covers 2/3 of the screen horizontally, I don't know what you mean by 'lack reach'. You'll probably have the double-shot item by the time you reach death, so you can fire one while jumping and one on the ground. This is like the only area in the game where the cross is useful. Also the cross is the only item you are guaranteed to be able to get in the level, so its the only item worth knowing how to fight Death with besides the holy water in case you die in the level and lose the holy water
>>738334797She can't be this retarded I refuse
>>738334290Literally all we had was an older-brother or friends old-brother that knew how to beat hard parts.
>>738337712This screams being poorI had strategy guides for every single game and I had internet as well in 1990 only a few years after it came outYou grew up poor.
>>738336396Why do Gen Xers love AI slop vids so much?
>>738333848If you have Holy Water 3 and full health by the end of this level there is no problem with "buying" the end like that.
>>738333848Most of the guys that popularized the term 'NES hard' were kids when they played those games so they have an exaggerated perception of these games' difficulty and challenge due to their biased memories.
>>738337870>This screams being poorYeah. If I remember, anyone that would go and get strategy guides back them in addition to games was likely rich boy.
>>738333848Notice how you look up a youtube guide to know exacly how to this corridor before trying for yourself
>>738336489There are also conveniences such as autofire that completely break certain games as they were not designed with the feature in mind
it's decent and quite forgiving, had more fun with it than with the truly overrated SOTN which is trivially easy and has no interesting level design, and superfluous RPG nonsense without any balance, only carried by fantastic art stylethe only annoying parts are the occasional flying enemies or falling into a pit because of stiff jump and knock backs, it's also quite shortdifficulty reputation is quite overblown and you realize it's because played by NES kids when they were 10yo without gaming experiencemeanwhile go back to play arcade stuff like g'n'g and that's proper challenging still to this day when cv was already casualized for console babiesrondo is the funnest I played and 68000 remake is pretty good
>>738334123This is actually my own recording, I've no death cleared the game
>>738333848>this made boomers punch holes in their wallit wasn't rage, it was to find the wall chicken to heal, fucking zoomers really don't know anything
>>738339014Pic not related , Image Fight 2all even with autofire is like infinity times harder than CV1
>>738339669You are destroying certain bosses before they even have time to show their patterns with autofire.
>>738334191The default whip is the S+ game difficulty tool. If you use the easy mode tools, that's a you problem.
>>738336453>using easy mode whipDidn't beat it. Sorry.
>>738333848we didnt make it that far
>>738340165>Being a soulsbaby about a NES gameI think I'd rather play a challenging game instead of trying to contrive more challenge out of this one
>>738334274>turn on the youtube>a tranny playing your game grooms your young mind into cutting your balls>this is paid by the government, both the message and the surgeryYeah, no, I think I will deliver newspapers
>>738340345It's not contrived. Codes and secrets were added to games back then as customer service to parents with stupid children.
>>738340546pressing up + attack is not a code or secret
>>738340645The difficulty is there. Using options made to help parents with stupid children is a you problem.
>>738340009That's true of a ton of classic shmups, zoomzoom. Still doesn't change the fact that it is one of the hardest shmups of all time, and requires extreme precision and memo and a single mistake causes you to lose all power. The 2all is absolutely fucking brutal. This is why shitters with no clears shouldn't just babble about things they know nothing about
>>738340965>That's true of a ton of classic shmups,Yes because you enabled Autofire you retarded nigger. Rapid tapping endurance used to be a part of the game. IMAGE Fight is JAMMA yet its only a two button game.
>>738341185>Rapid tapping enduranceLMFAO
>>73834118599% of JP players play it with autofire. Only two western players ever have cleared it (both autofire obviously) and both are superplayers with multiple WRs. Again, you are a clueless shitter, just shut the fuck up about things you don't understand.
>>738341396>99% of JP players play it with autofire. That's these days you fucking retarded revisionist.Where's autofire on Button C? Its a JAMMA game why not use Button C?
>>738341526JP cabs have an autofire circuit you retard zoomer.Yet again, please shut the fuck up about things you know nothing about.
>>738341603>SEGA, TAITO, NAMCO, sent out their cabinets with built in autofire circuitsNot you fucking larper those were installed by operators.
>>738341185>Rapid tapping endurance used to be a part of the gameYeah, in the mid 80's.
Why doesn't Metal Slug have autofire?Every single NEOGEO cab adhered to Jamma+ standard. Why force the operator to fuck around with auto fire circuits?
>>738342301The more common cab outside Asia. Same JAMMA+ standard. Why didn't ADK give use autofire on C button Magician Lord?
>>738333848>boomerzoomerdoomercoomer calling people boomers
>>738342301>Why doesn't Metal Slug have autofire?Because despite what nu-gamer larpers will say, arcade games weren't designed with it in mind.
Why does Mars Matrix only use one button despite being a 2000 release on the CPSII a system that can also utilize kick harness for access to 6 buttons? Oh I bet it they wanted to cash in on all those unused Galaga cabinets at the dumpsters and make the operators use them again.
Autofire wasn't included in metal slug because the game runs like shit and oversaturating the screen with bullets slows it down too much. Like if 2 players shoot a machine gun in that game it drops to like 5 fps.
>>738341832Yes dumbass and developers were well aware
I'm playing Order of Ecclesia and I'm stuck on that stupid Gravedorcus. I genuinely have no idea what patterns this damn retarded fish follows.
>>738344730Oh, wait, I just figured it out. I have to make that shitty fish crash against the wall, right?
>>738343130Some games have it on by default and some let you enable it in the dip switches. That's fine, but when you blow up a boss within 2 seconds before it even had time to unleash a single attack thanks to autofire its pretty much the same as a safe spot. Yeah its there it is what it is, but it wasn't intentional.>>738344630There is absolutely no documentation whatsoever about some rapid fire circuitry fuck offhttps://segaretro.org/images/5/57/SegaAstroCity2Manual.pdf
>>738345026Gamest recorded arcade scores with autofire starting in the mid-late 80s.
>>738345281>Gamest recorded arcade scores with autofire starting in the mid-late 80s.Pretty sure they had to specify they used autofire circuitry
>>738345452No shit, my point is it was very common and known by devs
>>738345026>Yeah its there it is what it is, but it wasn't intentionalMany developers do it intentionally, psikyo and taito in particular, to encourage aggressive play. Like if it works if you mash the button manually, it was obviously intended.
>>738336192Yeah. Zoomers are that retarded. It's the reason modern MP games suck because zoomshits wait for the new meta to drop and stick to it like glue. This looksmaxxing thing shows how retarded the average Zoomer is to where they need autistic essays on how "shower and gym" attracts women.
>>738346205>Many developers do it intentionally, psikyo and taito in particular, to encourage aggressive play. Like if it works if you mash the button manually, it was obviously intended. Can't think of a single boss in a Psikyo game that straight up explodes in 2 seconds, the way enabling autofire does in some mid 80s-late 80s game does.On the other hand I think Raiden II stage 7 boss is designed around punishing players that can't tap quickly.
>>738346639>Can't think of a single boss in a Psikyo game that straight up explodes in 2 secondsBosses in gunbird 1 and sengoku ace do due to the refresh rate on subshots.https://youtu.be/NG1RmpRvSOsIn their later games they have a more nuanced approach to this, where you take turns dodging bullets and then fly up to do super damage to the boss. In the later strikers games you actually get max autofire if your power gauge is empty. (Holding the button would normally activate your super shot and deplete meter) So I think the initial intention was very manual and physically laborious gameplay, then realizing it was just cool to fly up and point blank shit and designing the games around that.
>>738347260>and then fly up to do super damage to the bossYou mean the technical bonus thing in 1999 and DragonBlaze?>In the later strikers games you actually get max autofire if your power gauge is empty. (Holding the button would normally activate your super shot and deplete meter)I guess Strikers 1945 PLUS takes a shit on this, since it lets you enable Autofire on C in the soft dipswitches
>>738347983>You mean the technical bonus thing in 1999 and DragonBlaze? No I mean your subshot, the secondary shot you fire, like Koyori's scrolls or Marion's stars, refresh every time they are removed from the screen, so unlike a CAVE game which has a secondary hitbox for proximity damage, the close you are to a target the more damage you do because subshots come out faster. This means if you are on top of a boss, they refresh instantly, so you get a massive damage increase, which enables instant kills. Also interesting, Koyori is the best character to point blank with in Sengoku Ace, and her bomb has like a 2 second delay so it's useless for defense, but it lingers for a long time so it's incredibly powerful for using offensively to fly on top of targets, so I have to imagine that was intentional.
>>738333848The corridor had only 2 knights? I could swear there were 3.
>>738348532Huh interesting, I haven't played Gunbird at all just Strikers. Also look at this guy playing Strikers 1945 II going nuts with the tappinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEigzctyplY
>>738350783Strikers 1945 II is another interesting example, because you have Focke, who is basically this games Aine equivalent. (Straight shot, single missile subshot, lingering narrow bomb that can multihit, fast) Since he has a subshot (in that video the player is using Hayate, who doesn't, and instead has like these little homing ships and a powerful wide shot) it does the whole instant respawn thing, and he's super shot makes a shield that absorbs bullets and let's you safely point blank in situations where you normally couldn't. Most of his damage comes from point blanking since his shot is so weak, so he has a really different playstyle. He also benefits from autofire, because once you pop the shield your meter is empty and you can just lazily hold the button if you weren't using autofire.https://youtu.be/VgvGIbLV-KUPsikyo is good at designing ships that have a bunch of different approaches to playing the game, and they have really unique archtypes. They make some really interesting games.
