Can we talk about the impossible situation of GTA Online?GTA 6 is coming out. It will no doubt have an online component, because TakeTwo think they'll be able to see a billion shark cards again. But like... will they? I don't think GTA 6's online is going to be the clean sweep they're anticipating.GTA 5 online's feature creep has been huge - it's had an enormous amount of cars added, it's had heists added, casino stuff, doomsday stuff... shit a lot of zoomies play it because they enjoy GTA Trackmania. People enjoy the retarded and surreal in it, like the flying missile bike. GTA 5's online is also held up by a massive support for it on now dated hardware - it's hard to deny, you can play it on old game consoles like PS4 and Xbox One. Hell, it initially launched for the 360 and PS3.How is 6's online going to compete with that? If they make it surreal and retarded, there's no room to grow. It'll alienate people that want a more grounded experience. If they don't make it surreal and retarded, it won't captivate the alphas/zoomies that need boomer-tier slot machines to keep engaged. How is 6 online going to compete with the money people have already spent on GTA 5's online? For the same reasons POE2 doesn't appear to have been able to topple POE, I think 6's online is gonna struggle to topple 5's online. I don't think it's gonna be quite the level of abject failure as Red Dead Online, but I think no matter what choices they make, they're going to alienate a chunk of their fanbase, who will inevitably stick with 5's online. The game will sell a gorillion copies, but it might be the end of the golden age of Take Two's cash cow.
>>738338656they're going to move to a more RP based life sim economy where you buy fake money with real money to drink virtual coffee in virtual cafes while you save up for a virtual place to virtually liveall while powertripping mods actively hunt you down, harrass you and throw you in jail for virtual jaywalkingGTA O was the proof of concept, now they're just gonna have you all living imaginary lives in vice city for the next 20 years
this applies to every sequel ever which is why the second game in a series is always weird and awkward because devs realized you have to do something new even before gaas was a thing
>>738339675I suspect you're right, but I don't think it'll play out that well for them. I think people will just end up sticking to GTA 5 Online, and it's gonna take a lot to convince people to move over to the new online. They'll be desperate to recapture the cash cow magic, but they're competing with themselves this time.
