What game? Besides Outer Wilds

The first run is full of discoveries and the late game has loads of fun puzzles and WTF moments but Lillie's route is a fucking slog that just punches you in the dick over and over
>>
>>738341404
>spoiler
it's literally the opposite
early game gives you nothing to do but fly around aimlessly until you bump into something interesting and die randomly while investigating it, only to realize hours later what actually kills you all the time
the ending is pretending to have a great moment with your friends one last time, except they're not really there and you as the player barely even got to know them, and it all culminates in a big "literally anything could happen from now on, just imagine it yourself, but make it good", which is probably a metaphore for depression like every pretentious indie game
the best part of the game is learning all the quantum mechanics and going to the sixth quantum moon spot, but it ends up being a completely pointless thing that doesn't get you any closer to the only good ending, and it stops making sense if you think about for more than 5 minutes
fuck everyone who recommended this game for being good at the things Blue Prince failed, at least Blue Prince had interesting lore underneath all the layers of rng bullshit

It's a cool moment and a nice reward for understanding the mechanics, sure, but what I meant is that it's pointless in the pursuit of the "good" ending. She doesn't tell you about the probes, where the ship is, nothing about ash twin project, only lore and nothing that pushes you forwards in any direction. Meeting her is the end of a fully optional arc, and it's made even more pointless in the context of the rest of the game. Meeting a living nomai should be a big thing, but she is supposedly stuck there, and your people will never get to know hers secrets because of the time loop. Not to mention she probably doesn't have a lot of insightful things to say, because she was literally just doing what's considered a rite of passage, so she was barely an adult when she got stuck. When the "good" ending happens, she is gone like everything else, so anything she could have told you in the enormous span of ~20 minutes is irrelevant. Sorry, not irrelevant, the very act of meeting her influenced the shape and structure of the new universe, which is of course very deep and meaningful.
I like how they handled the one-way communication with her though. Shame it was dropped in the ending, because it was a retarded quantum hallucination. Same with the dlc guy.

You know, I find this to be the case for many RPGs.
In the beginning you are unfamiliar with the rules and optimal strategies. It is also charming to have only a few, simple abilities and items where getting a new one of either will feel like a massive improvement. You're also low on money.
Midgame you're already familiar with the rules and have a lot of items at your disposal so getting new gear and skills aren't that much of a deal.
In endgame, the game usually tests your knowledge with the strong final bosses and you can get the best items in the game which gives insane properties or abilities.
Stories are subjective so I won't mention them here.

But to be specific
>Knights of the Old Republic
>Baldurs Gate (either)
>XCom games
>Darkest Dungeon
>Monster Hunter games to some degree
>Bethesda games to some degree
>Final Fantasy Tactics 1 & 2
>Mother series
>Starsector
>Pathfinder series and Rogue Trader
>Octopath Traveler
>Legend of Grimrock
>the entire Shin Megami Tensei series
>pretty much any actual roguelike

FF9. Disc 2 walking around that dumb fuck shit brown continent with a thief and 3 mages was utterly retarded pacing. Both from a gameplay standpoint (2 white mages low dps) and the story coming to a screeching halt for hours while you get married by dwarfs and cook dinner.

I will not apologize for thinking it was kino as fuck to learn about fictional world's geography and heraldry, decipher a language, and constantly discover that the objects I previously wrote off as mundane actually had more to them.
Nor for thinking the game shouldn't have been a fucking roguelike in the first place, if this is what ticked you off here.

Even the first run can be slog if you're not obsessed with sokobans.
And some of the """puzzles""" are La-Mulana tier, and I mean it in a bad way.
Anyway, play Paquerette, the superior sokoban.
Also, Zero Ranger is the fire horse throughout its entire duration, then becomes plasma horse in the ending
still didn't kill the final final boss, its rough

I dunno, I rather liked the first run, and I detest sokobans. I just love poking around for secrets more. It didn't really get dull until the aforementioned part and then it picked back up around the part where you follow the footsteps because it starts introducing new mechanics.
Paquerette has been on my radar but I'm worried I might be too smoothbrained for it. Baba fucking obliterated me and even VS eventually got me to break down. I wish there were more games like Environmental Station Alpha that dabbled in the cryptic secrets without being as bullshit as La-Mulana.
100% agree about ZeroRanger. The secret to the TLB is to be patient and wait for a good solid opening. Remember that you can chunk a hit or two on the orbs, it's only the orange bullets that will kill you.

>I dunno, I rather liked the first run, and I detest sokobans.
How the fuck does that work? If the game was more popular I'd call you a shill, but its niche enough that you might be genuine.
I like sokobans, but enough is enough, and after like 150+ floors I was getting a bit full, especially since the first blind run doesn't introduce any new abilities. These items are fun so I'd wish I found some before I spoiled literally everything for myself (I was clueless and just wanted to see what else is in this game, not knowing there's... the remaining 3/4ths of it.)
>Paquerette has been on my radar but I'm worried I might be too smoothbrained for it.
Its one of those puzzle games where you have to decide for yourself when to quit. But I highly recommend at least getting to the big reveal. Its a purely mechanical reveal, but it feels like going outside of Plato's cave when it comes to the consequences. Literally mind blowing. And end game is literally brain melting, even the devs admit in game they don't know the full extent of the system they created.
Oh, and you can just skip rooms you don't care about, unlike Void Stranger where you have to solve every single one.
>Baba fucking obliterated me
I also started feeling inadequate at some point when playing Baba. I got to the meta part, but I never did everything, I reached my limit. And I will admit, I looked up solutions to some floors in VS too, in the Gray route.
>Station Alpha
Have you played Axiom Verges? First one is more traditional, but has some secret layers to it, and the plot is fun to uncover and piece together, the second for me was a blast to figure out the lore and background of it. Gameplay wise its straightforward, but figuring out the lore from cryptic parts is super fun.

>How the fuck does that work? If the game was more popular I'd call you a shill, but its niche enough that you might be genuine.
It really is my genuine, unfiltered, dogshit opinion. Detest might have been too strong a word, but I'm just not really into pure puzzle games. VS hooked me in spite of that because of the exploration aspect and the fact that it plays into the motif of "breaking" a game, because that sort of shit is my jam. I love noclipping out of games' maps and finding broken stuff. My childhood was spent fooling around with the Select warp glitch in the OG Link's Awakening and VS tapped into that memory vein like an oil rig. I discovered messing with the UI and B000 completely naturally, and that was when I knew it was something special that I had to keep digging into. It's not some OMG GOTYAY and it's got its share of flaws but damn if it didn't resonate with me.
My break's almost up so I'll have to cut this reply short but I will take the rest of your post to heart. Thanks for the in-depth reply.
