The gameplay loop isn't very well thought out, the field rewards are mostly just old things from Bozja and Eureka, phantom jobs are mostly either gimmicks specifically for Forked Tower which makes them useless outside, or they just provide big damage buttons to push under buffs (this will be less of an issue in 8.0 I guess). If you're not doing Forked Tower there's absolutely nothing to work for. There's no sense of progression because everything is open to you from the start, so you're just doing the same ten FATEs forever.

It's worse than Bozja and Eureka in every way, has a lot of core design issues, did some stupid things with the reward system, took a bunch of steps back on stuff that Bozja and Eureka already solved, and the only REAL benefits are that the area is kind of interesting conceptually and there are some fun fights. It's still fun to do a little and you should get to knowledge level 20 (and maybe grind out some phantom jobs), but it has MUCH less staying power than the other forays.Biggest issues are>the phantom job system is inherently flawed because most jobs are only complete and actually fun at max level, but at that point you're incentivized to start using other jobs to not waste experience>mob farming is kind of meh>only one FATE/CE spawn at a time means the pace is far too rushed and hectic for the type of content it is (they nerfed it but it's still an inherent issue)>not enough CEs>not enough zones (Bozja kind of had this, too, but it was alleviated by having stop-gap updates before each zone)>the raid is a total flop and they did the worst possible iteration of the format after Bozja already solved the idea (even worse than BA, because BA was easy to get your premade into since Eureka instances had 144 people, instead of just 72)>lots of the phantom jobs kind of just suck and aren't as fun as lost actions or mnemes>nothing to ACTUALLY really grind other than phantom job experience>the coffer system retroactively kills OTHER forays because it devalues and shits out all of their rarer rewards and kind of nukes the old content economy>no duels or equivalent feature to keep challenge-seekers occupied, also no equivalent mechanic to "reward" good performance in CEsThere's other flaws, and it has some upsides, but that's my core criticism compared to the other forays.

Theres social and group finder restrictions on it and a gil cap of 300k, but if you're in it for the story you get to go through the best story expansion (Shadowbringers) for free when the next expac comes out. But once you sign up / buy the actual game, you cannot go back to free trial even if you aren't finished with free trial content. Most of the story dungeons can be done with NPCs at this point too.Story starts of weak, but worth it if you can power through the slow start
