What was it like on release?
>>
milk and salty coins
>>
chat was comfy like a wc3 public chatroom and lobby
gameplay was groundbreaking
lore was interesting
things only for better with every patch
>>
Queue times, no mod shit, players everywhere, barren chat was wild
>>
It was the best at release when everyone was still leveling and nothing was figured out yet. Players at every zone, people teaming up for elite mobs randomly, people questing and killing mobs no matter which zone you were in, it felt truly alive in a way the game never did for me after that.

Then we all reached max level and when it was mandatory to do raids to get gear upgrades is when the game turned to shit in my eyes. 90% of the effort was the logistics of organizing 40 people with more than 2 braincells to rub together but it felt impossible when 95% of the playerbase was turning with keyboard and clicking on skills and in retrospect I was wondering why a braindead simple raid like Molten Core felt so difficult.

I think it was a mistake shifting focus to raids and endgames, and not treating the leveling and exploration as the main game. As a result, it will never feel alive like it did at release.

It seems like nothing today but some kids would start vanilla World of Warcraft and be like "WOW THOSE CHARACTERS ARE BEING PLAYED BY REAL PEOPLE".

Yeah I know it wasn't the first online MMO but even in 2004 the Internet was still a new concept to a lot of people.

Nothing but hunters. The best feeling in the world was killing faggot hunters. Who thought they could kite with cheetah and stun fucking them to death because they were so retarded

A feel that millions of people ruined their life trying to recapture

It was peak gaming, nothing will ever be like it.
It also gave me a bunch of bad fetishes.

Slop

It was pretty much the equivalent of Fortnite back in the days, a super cartoony and casual games mostly played by kids.

Shit. Nothing’s changed.
Anyone who feels nostalgic for this crap is just feeling nostalgic for their youth and childhood.
