Crosscode 2 is out
Who's playing?
>>
>>738388393
is it good? crosscode made me feel like i just played the studio's one hit wonder
>>
>>738388393
Me. Though I won't be able to play until later today, so I'm avoiding discussion for now.
>>
I've bought it but debating just waiting for 1.0 anyway
I REALLY hope they didn't listen to retards and tone down the puzzles
>>
>>738388686
the demo didn't really impress me, but I always found the dungeons to be the highlight of crosscode, and I didn't get to try one in the demo
>>
>>738388780
yeah I was thinking of buying it just to get it cheaper but I don't want to play it till it's fully released
>>
I haven't played it yet but I imagine that just by being 3D, it should make the platforming less of a pain.
I remember depth perception being a pretty annoying thing in Crosscode.
>>
>>738388925
Annoying is the understatement of the century. You had to spam BALLS everywhere lest you risk having to backtrack 5 screens to get back up again.
>>
is it coded in Javascript like CrossCode or uses an actual engine? CrossCode had a nasty memoryleak
>>
>>738389108
Same engine pretty much
>>
>>738388393
Graphics look BoF4 inspired. Still not quite reaching those heights, but about time someone tried.
>>
>ea
I love crosscode but nah, I'll wait.
Early access is a death sentence at this point. People burn themselves out before the games even complete.
>>
>>738388393
>2 chapters out
>7 chapters planned
I might buy it because I really liked Crosscode but I'm not playing until it's complete.
>>
>>738388393
>posting an image of the steam store instead of a screenshot
Kill yourself.
>>
>>738388393
The demo was nice, but I don't do early access.
>>
>>738388393
>EARLY ACCESS

No. Not playing. Enjoy your unpaid beta testing.
>>
>>738390195
>>738390547
developing niggas see Hades and Baldur's Gate 3 having successful early accesses and try going for it too, not having the ability to meet deadlines and absorbing the correct user criticism.
EA paypig niggas buy early access games and expect a finished product straight away, trowing a tantrum and avoiding constructive criticism.
This game release MO is a plague for everyone.
>>
>>738390806
>not having the ability to meet deadlines and absorbing the correct user criticism.
Except they did that during crosscode
I hate EA from turd developers who just want to shit something out for a quick buck as much the next guy but Radical Fish have actually proven themselves
>>
>>738388393
>only 2 chapters.
I'll only play if there's assurance that there's no sudden changes between the present and the final version. If there isn't I'll wait until it's fully released. I have high hopes for Radical Fish though.
>>
>>738390195
Wasn't crosscode also EA? In any case I think I'll wait for the full release as well anyways. Don't like playing something that's going to be as long as crosscode piecemeal

I'd rather wait for 1.0, but I'm tempted to jump in now and leave feedback if the dungeons or puzzles feel inadequate.
>>
>>738388393

>only 2 chapters out of 7 ready

Fug. I look forward to whenever 1.0 comes out
>>
>>738388825
> /v doesn't play games
Anon there was a dungeon segment in the demo
>>
>early access

I'll check back on it in 5 years when the devs have maybe added all the content and QoL stuff other games have had for decades, assuming they don't abandon it after a year (they will).
>>
>>738388686
Crosscode combat was ass. AD has actually good combat gameplay. It also has what is essentially a turbosprint mechanic baked in. Ranged and melee are now split into distinct weapons. There are also unique weapon subtypes for ranged and melee (eg. fast dagger or slow big chungus hammer). It's like comparing nestroid to Super Metroid, insane glowup.
t. full cleared crosscode and its dlc

I'm having a hard time caring about the characters and dialogue. Juno simply isn't as cute as my wife Lea
>>
>>738391692
They've already stated their plan is to increase the price over time as content is added. If nothing else it makes sense to buy it now even if you are waiting for 1.0. It's effectively buying it on sale.
>>
>>738392898
The cast of crosscodes sucked. I'm sure these AD characters will suck too, but the designs are cuter so they win.

Vast majority of early access games are in alpha. A beta is a finished game that needs testing.
>>

Crosscode was a disappointment and I didn't finish it. Why should I be excited for another game by this team?

I loved how challenging the puzzles were but I wish they would stop with the stupidly long puzzles that aren't hard to figure out but painful to execute properly.
>>
>>738388393
So far good first impressions. Way less dialogue heavy. Felt like Crosscode would be half as a long if none of the characters "..." every other time they spoke. Combat feels so much better too.
But early access? Can't wait to play it again 2 years from now I guess.

Crosscode is overrated as hell, so I'm not very excited for this game.

Hopefully the whole game is like that. Crosscode and Iconoclasts were the two indie games where the NPCs never SHUT THE FUCK UP. How do these people not realize no one is playing their shitty indie game for the story or dialogue.

This looks better than CrossCode. I'll check it out once it is fully released.

Lame. I remember thinking the puzzle design itself was fun but that they spaced them out poorly. If they want to make puzzles feel less tedious they should address the boring free roam areas since they fail to break up the pacing.

I like Lea and Emilie's designs a lot more than any of the ones in AD. They messed up by not making the delicious choco brown protagonist more tomboyish. Instead it looks like they're using the same kind of gormless stoneface protag that Lea was a pleasant subversion of.
Maybe it would help to make the world more unique if they did more with the primitive aesthetic that' seems present, as most of what's been shown off hovers around some cookiecutter nature vs corruption motif. Unfortunately they probably don't have it in them to put all the characters in skimpy mesoamerican/aztec outfits...
>>
>>738395414
The studio is German.
>>
>>738397313

>>
>>738395646
>the boring free roam areas since they fail to break up the pacing.
Imagine having lost your sense of wonder this badly. They were the best parts since they had puzzles organically placed in the environment you could tackle while exploring and fighting.
>>

>>738397713
>indie game funded by the german government
>tranny on the team
how did this game turn out to be so kino despite the odds?
>>
>>738397838
They did have the classic issue of sometimes being unclear what was a puzzle you were failing to solve, and what was a puzzle you didn't have the tools to do yet.
>>
>>738397313
>Maybe it would help to make the world more unique if they did more with the primitive aesthetic that' seems present, as most of what's been shown off hovers around some cookiecutter nature vs corruption motif.
Yeah the worldbuilding is really quite dire and generic, Crosscode had much cooler and unique aesthetic.
>>
I just don't see them matching Emilienator. You can't improve upon perfection.

>bamboo forest at night
Real original and exciting locales. The AD zones look way better. They are an extension of crosscode, not a radical departure.

Despite being the greatest indie game ever made it felt very okay.
>>
>>738398937
Yeah except for the part where all those biomes were all mixed with modern technology under the hood because it was meant to be an MMO, which was cool and interesting
>>
>>738400053
Crosscode has "ancients" AD has "gods" that are functionally the same thing. Contrasting future tech with thenatural setting. You're literally complaining about the lack of something that exists. AD is just better art CC.
>>
After seeing it launched Early Access instead of finished i think i'll put it on the wait list until it has more than 2 or 3 hours of game. i have a few EA games on my wait list now after getting burned on EA games that are still not finished years later.
>>
>>738394048
That's why this is an early access, if the puzzles are too easy you can complain and ask them to fix it
>>
>>738400543
That's where I'm at. I'll even give 'em $20 out of love for crosscode but I'm not going to slog through the opening act just to get blueballed.

>>738398937
The tweening on models and improved 2.5d maps are super cool.
>>738397838
I had fun with zooming around them and looking at the setpieces, but I also remember that most of the stuff you'd actually be doing in them amounted to jump pad/barrier puzzles. I just wish the composition was more unique compared to the dungeons, since the latter already did puzzling better.
Maybe it's also because the items/equipment in the game aren't that great, but I never felt that good unlocking chests.
>>
>>738388393
I'm going to wait until 1.0.

Iconoclasts definitely had nowhere near as much dialogue as Crosscode, maybe you just don't like story beats in any 2D game.
>>
Yo wtf? LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>
Is the combat still a puzzle in disguise or do enemies take damage when you hit them this time around?
>>
>>738401986
The combat is hands down the biggest upgrade over crosscode. Crosscode is unfun to play at every single stage of the game. AD is great right out the gate.
>>
>>738401986
Demo was mostly just mash break combo until break, then mash the bonus damage combo
I think there was an enemy or two you had to either parry or switch weapons for, but it's pretty brain-off
>>
>>738402207
The tutorial dungeon was fun (I mean the second one, inside the game), like a promise of fun things in the future.
Then it ends and the gameplay nosedives.

crosscode is in my top 10 games ever but that game being early access was a mistake even if I played the full release, there are so many parts where a big climax happens and then it rolls it back where I mentally go "oh this was the big ending before they put the game on hold for 6-14 months", so their next game doing the exact same shit is a shame
