Finished. It's basically a much better The Artful Escape. If you didn't mind the writing and dialogue, that game was somewhat entertaining, but it was let down by repetitive non-platforming and Simon Says sequences. This is the same flavor of story, but it has a greater variety of interactions sprinkled throughout, almost like It Takes Two/Split Fiction on a micro scale. No real woke shit either; there was a cutscene that might've implied the MC having feelings for the other girl, but that was through facial expressions and body language and it doesn't end up amounting to anything. No reference to race or trannies, and even the dad cop is ultimately portrayed in a sympathetic way. Obviously not for everybody but it's good for what it is

Finished it. It was fun and really short, about ~3 hours which is short enough for this type of game really. Good soundtrack, some ok mini-games. No Bowie on it though, which I guess would've tanked their budget. One of my gripes is, being a game about curating a mixtape, you, the player, aren't allowed to do so and shape the mood of the game but I get that it's the protagonist's story and you're just meant to follow along. That level of granularity and choice would cause too much licensing issues. Story is so-so, it's every 80's and 90's high school and coming-of-age movie trope rolled into one movie length video game e.g. overbearing parents, drugs and booze are fun, characters aren't stereotyped to their high school roles a la the breakfast club etc. It's not worth the 9/10 and 10/10's its getting because it's tickling the reviewers nostalgia bone, it's more of a 7/10 at best. There's no woke stuff in it, that one anon above earlier saying the cutscene implying a lesbian thing is probably the closest there is, there's another where they hold hands but they're daydreaming and spacing out, but that's after her friend gives a compliment and it's more like a "You get me" type of look. There's more of an unrequited longing between the guy and the player character because they've been best friends for so long that maybe dating would ruin things that trope. It really is just a dumb and fun high-school/coming of age movie that's stuck in video game form. And for anyone interested, Swans only gets a mention, there's a Byrne Street and no NMH references (I think).
