Your Honor, it's clear that the victim was in a panic moments before she was killed. As seen by the photo of the victim, she was stressing over the wristwatch she was wearing. Unable to activate the gravity manipulation device installed into it in time, she was unable to do anything but freeze up in terror as the culprit lashed out at her?
The method of killing you might ask? Well, if we turn our attention to the empty food bowl on the floor, it is clear that the culprit trained a ferocious beast. After all, the easiest way to detach yourself from killing is by making someone, or something, do it for you. The culprit trained a bloodthirsty lion and set it upon our victim. If we take a recess, we should be able to catch up to the circus in town with the lion in question.

In general the best step forward for the series would've been.

I know. Phoenix's only real weakspot is that he gets ahead of himself a lot in court, and doesn't bother checking if what he figured out is actually consistent with the court record.
Like here he straight figured out the entire plot twist in 2-1 on day 1 as soon he spoke to Ini, but good luck trying to argue that during a trial.

>>
>>738409275
AJ was extremely safe and by the numbers formula wise, which was at odds with the attempted goal of "make new cast" Except there isn't really room for any of these new characters to grow out from here since what little developer they got in 4 was subdued, Also revolving the plot around the previous lead was the opposite of what should've been done, to put it in another context "If you write a sequel with a new cast, and the main plot and mystery revolves around what happened to the old cast, you've doomed the new cast."
Alternatively It's more or less The Force Awakens, far from a bad movie on it's own, but it's extremely safe, retrending old grounds and tropes intentionally, while trying to introduce new characters that are overshadowed by the old characters since the main plot is "where is Luke Skywalker", While the Last Jedi and by extension, DD, is the point of no return where nothing could've been fixed fully and while I'd say these are worst products, they're mostly sins of what came before them.
Or you can blame the Layton crossover for taking Takumi off the main series for years because Level 5 can't release a game to save it's life on time and capcom figured "eh the B team can figure something else, put them on the job"
One last rambling is "the 4th game just sadly didn't really commit to changing up the stale formula enough while also not fully committing to its new cast while making sure barely anything of the old cast remained" I'd say it's somewhere in the middle of my series ranking chart, but it's bland cast of cardboard cutouts, while not hateable, aren't enough to carry on a new legacy that was still in the shadows of the previous one.
>>
>>738409781
>surface level bullshit
let me guess, the only issue you had with the last of us 2 is wah they killed the protagonist i liked him, or that the only issue with the mass effect trilogy is 3s ending?
ita about quality of writing, and in this case animation. AJ still has the classic 2d look with fun and endearing animations, like mafia woman who glares at you.
DD and SoJ went into full on animation and voice acting, making athena and the entire feel a generic anime while trashing the unique look and feel they already had.
the first 2 cases and to some extent the 4 case are good. the third case drags on and gets boring and the 4th case isnt greatvat points. but even those 2 are less egregious than anything going on in DD or SOJ. beyond the animation and VA, the writing is just god awful. it was written by people way less talented than takumi and its immediately apparent. by the time you reach the mock trial case at the academy the experience and writing is so miserable you dont even want to play it anymore. the clever writing and unique scenarios of the other games is gone in favor of the most generic japanese tropes and not even done well at that.
apollo, trucy, and klavier are no one faborite charavters, but theyre decent and feel like classic AA. athena, the new prosecutors, and every new character in DD and SoJ are horrible and do not fit at all.
the obly half decent cases were the dlc orca case and the caee on trucys stage show

>>738410103
Formula-wise maybe, but it did mess up with the plot.
If you wanted to do a sequel to it but without ending up with another DD, you would either need to either go all the way into "it's up to the new generation now" which means working with the new characters introduced while leaving Phoenix as the shadowy mentor figure - or have Apollo slowly but surely figure out other things that have happened in these 7 years, while re-introducing the older characters such as Maya right next. Could still throw Athena in if you really wanted to but I feel like it would be more fair to her if she was a character acting in parallel or got a game fully about her once Apollo is done with his own plot.

>>738410374
Bold of you implying I played TLOU, let alone TLOU2.
Anyways, I was only talking about the plot direction myself. Otherwise AJ has a lot more issues still, and none of them have to do with the animation.

If there is one thing AA does exceptionally well and not many people give credit for, that's how it manages to compress enough information in the court record without dropping text walls and through the clever use of visual clues.

It doesn't always work though, at times you need to rely purely on your memory about what was said on a specific piece of evidence, and other times a contradiction only really exists after you read the press convo and it happens to point out at something more specific.
>>
I just finished Investigations 1 and besides going on for way too long, I have another problem with the final case. Why did the smuggling ring send Calisto/Shih-na to go be Cece Yew’s fake crying sister in court all those years ago? I get that she was a spy in yatagarasu, but that group was formed after she appeared at the trial because she met the other members and they decided to seek justice. So really there was no reason for her to be sent there in the first place, unless the ring just wanted to send a fake sister there for fun or to create their own worst enemy on purpose for no reason. From what I remember I don’t even think she was like a planted witness in the KG-8 trial, I’m pretty sure she just cried in the gallery.

Yeah it messes with things, there's so many better ways it could've been handled but in the end it's a heavily compromised game, and you can see this at it's best with Perceive
It sure is cool that Apollo can tell if your lying if your nose hairs twitch but it doesn't really matter as long as the witness doesn't have a mental breakdown, then the entire mechanic is meaningless, and this isn't something I made up either, it's something the game's script itself points out where in 4-4 Kristoph points out after his section "Bro literally only you can see this, I have no idea what your talking about and nobody else does as well" and the only reason why it works is because of the jury system, except that wasn't a thing in the past 3 cases, which makes that when it does work just kinda look stupid where the main character has a stupid power that slows down the game that you can't lose in, and the only reason why it works before the jury system is because everyone's retarded, this is not good writing, you can tell they really wanted to push the new system, but it was at the expense of everything else.
>>
>>738411537
Takumi is a better mystery writer in general, and to be fair he made the AA format himself to fit his own cases, so there's that.
Something about Yamazaki's writing doesn't click with me, even in AAI. Doesn't help that he wants his plots to be all about grand conspiracies where all episodes end up connected.
>>
>>738411795
Could have just done what PW trilogy did with psyche locks(they only exist out of court) but I guess the idea was specifically to add a new trial mechanic.

>>738411801
While True, you can't in good faith say that when the entirety of GAA's two games is about a bigger conspiracy than anything in Yamazaki's.
>>738411910
I guess so because lord knows the investigations had their mechanics stripped down in 4 by removing the magatama until the last case that still hand holds you so they felt like they had to "replace" it with something for court sections.
>>
>>738407764
Spirit of Justice is up there with T&T and AAI2 and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
>>
>>738412371
No one was pretending bro. SoJ is only better than DD, and AJ doesn't actually do much after 4-1, so you are left with SoJ carrying the climax of the "AJ trilogy"(lol)
>>
>>738411801
I think the main problem is that Yamazaki tries to have a twist in every testimony but Takumi was content to have testimonies whose entire purpose is just to set up another testimony.
This philosophy works in Investigations where the game is about a live investigation where the case can indeed reasonably change from testimony to testimony, and investigations and confrontations are less seperate then in mainline.
I also think this is why in the 3DS games you have irrelevant testimonies that result in that one meme scenario where the defendant couldn't have possibly done it but you didn't prove the witness is lying so you get a guilty verdict. This works better in AAI where Edgeworth is just trying not to get kicked off the investigation

Takumi's mysteries outside the more simplistic setups are largely bad and mostly carried by heavy doses of emotional drama.

Like he invented an entire doppelganger scenario in 4-3 to explain why Apollo's stupid bitch mom is in the vents but the existence of a perfect doppelganger that can't even be deduced by two people with magic perception powers means there's no reason for her to be running across the arena at all, she would just be on standby on the lowered tower. And that's only one example, nevermind Misty and Iris psychotically going along with Godot for no reason or all the aids shit in GAA

That depends, did you hate AJ because of Apollo or did you hate AJ because Apollo didn't get any spotlight.

SoJ makes him the main character basically.

>Is Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright any good?
It's okay, your mileage may vary.
>I rarely hear people talking about it
Here's why:
>3DS exclusive
>released in Japan 14 years ago
>not intended to be localised, got localised and released outside of Japan 2 years later
>Capcom and Level-5 pretend it does not exist
>Capcom released a video about the AA series, where Ghost Trick gets mentioned and PLvsPW does not (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB0Ethu40G0)
>>

It's ok. Best for the fanservice, it's a good Layton game and a wonky AA game. Maybe 60% Layton, 40% AA. If you have played Layton you are already familiar with how those plot twists often transpire, but spirit mediums and magatamas alone won't prepare you for this.

4-3 is just terrible on all fronts.
His other cases are fine except arguably 3-5 too.

>>738412797
And yes, Takumi prefers to do a more typical mystery format where you plant the clues and smaller contradiction first, and then reveal how they were leading into a certain conclusion.
It's not exactly a very unique style, merely more accurate to the literary counterpart that he was trying to implement in vidya format.

Where the fuck is the next game Capcom? I've been shitposting in AA threads for over 15 years now, I've earned this.

Anyway you faggots better have played GAA by now, they're kino.

I played the first, but it dragged on for so long that I've been dreading starting out the second. I feel like this has been an issue in the last couple games.

Dialog is more wordy in both GAA games, but GAA2 has way stronger cases and moves the plot along since everything's already been established.

G2-3 into G2-5 is the best sequence of cases in the entire series.

Ehhhh I'll say that the first three cases of that game are better than the last two cases personally.

The first two cases are so tedious and boring and filled with stupid shit like the coin steak they've spawned hundreds of "should I keep playing this" threads online

Olive Green is walking in two entirely different directions depending on the case you're playing. That's bad. Instead of setting up any sort of reason why she'd be in the apartment the game obsesses over a torn piece of paper and when the case is over she goes "oh I was listening to Soseki in the cafe talk about choking to death, oh my boyfriend taught me the super secret trick to breaking into moonman's apartment building, oh I also just happened to find where Shamspeare kept his shit and instantly knew how he was suffocating Soseki."

Instead of establishing any sort of satisfying connective thread in 2-3's motive Naruhodo points to a random ledger and goes "look how weird this number is!!! Too many scalpels!!!" and this somehow means the killer was connected to the Assman. The game also acts like Maya is kidnapped when Naruhodo is asked to defend the retarded scientist's retarded theory or his retarded life

No one notices a giant hulking oriental bearded man in a badly fitting ginger wig buy literally 100 firecrackers and walk into the scene of a crime. GAA2 uses the "fake autopsy report" card 3 fucking times in 2 cases. It uses Amnesia twice as well, both in incredibly pathetic ways compared to AAI2. Notice how I didn't even need to mention holograms to get this far
>>
>>738429232
Holograms blow because they aren't set up at all so they come off as an random ass pull to make sure that
1. Sherlock can be involved in the final case somehow.
2. To make sure Ryu can beat the villain and get a good ending, because Temu Gant was going to get off scott free until this moment.
It kinda sucks even if you ignore that the tech is unrealistic.

Nice "evidence", too bad it doesn't corroborate with the

It's funny because the hologram is an insane solution to a problem that never needed to exist. For 1 having the judiciary go "OH YEAH WE LOVE SECRET MURDERS" was an asspull in and of itself to arbitrarily extend the trial and 2 it would've been trivial to just have Sherlock and the Queen disguised as 2 jurors. But they couldn't do that because they got bored of the gimmick halfway through 2 kek
>>
>>738430504
the WE LOVE SECRET MURDERS part is funny as well because Stronghart's entire motivation for doing everything the way he did was "NOBODY WOULD SIDE WITH ME IF THEY KNEW THE TRUTH, SO I HAD TO DO IT LIKE THIS" but no actually everyone around him was actually totally cool and onboard with it and he just...never asked them.
and it still would've worked out for him somehow if it wasn't for Sherlock saving the day again, It's pretty much an issue with anything takumi's written after 3 where the main character isn't allowed to be the deciding factor in saving the day and it's kinda an anti climax.
