How do you do subversive and deconstructive writing in games without pissing people off?
>>738394480At this point, playing these tropes straight WOULD be subverting expectations.
>>738394480By gatekeeping righturds
>>738394480>BaIdurGay3Literally none of those examples apply to that game.
>>738394480The fourth one is the only one that is played out. It would ironically be more interesting to see a religion in a game that isn't evil or corrupt.
>subversive and deconstructive writing Not interested in having any, fuck off
>>738394480Name ten examples of each
I want left but with evil pollyana
>>738394480subversion and deconstruction only work if revealed late, woven in subtly, and not shone a spotlight on imoso something modern game writers cannot do rofl
only subverters find subversion good.
>>738394892To me the ultimate subversion of the religion=bad trope was that one game where the final boss was the concept of evolution.
>>738394480Hancock before the movie turns into drama.
>>738394480If everyone's doing it, it's not subversive
>>738395308>Charlize Theron appears onscreen>movie plummets in quality
>>738394958Evil Pollyanna leglocks every time.
>>738394480I dont know, but im tired of fantasy tropes/arsthetic/etc. Both Japanese and western classic fantasy are overdone
>>738395521I'm hoping for more Modern Day Urban Fantasy or Victorian Gothic Horror.
>>738394892>>738395268Religion is bad.
>>738395268Name?
>>738395718That can't be true, Religion gives me the power to blow up the undead just by shouting mean things at them.
>>738394480My wife in the bottom right
>>738395718No, humans are bad. Religion attempts to push humans to be bettermen, but then humans being bad corrupt it and use it for their own personal vices. This is true of any institution not just Religion
>>738394672bug fables shocked me with how the final chapter played out>>738394892bug fables
>>738394480>BG3Are you retarded? The game isn't """subversive""" in any way.
>>738395760Spore
>>738395760Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
>>738395810That's magick or witchcraft, not "religion".>>738395876Religions ARE the institutions. I'm not even an atheist, any dogma just fucking sucks.
>>738395608I was looking for a crpg like Baldurs Gate or Dragon Age Origins, but sci fi and it turns out it literary doesn't exist. There are no real classic horror isometric crpgs. Slow down on the fantasy for yet another game.
>>738394480maybe they could start with some actual deconstruction instead of this lazy superficial inversion
>>738396124>That's magick or witchcraft, not "religion".religion is more than just the abrahamic faiths
Don't subvert something cool into being something gay.Like if the story is about a knight who has to go kill a evil wizard and save a princess, don't immediately have the knight get blown up by a fireball and shift the narrative to the princess who has to girl boss her own way out of captivity, sparing not a fuck about the knight who died trying to save her.
>>738394480Wasteland 2 actually surprised me by making the evil church simply misguided and something correctable by the party.
>>738394480Bottom right is still the good people. The bakery uses people for stuffing.Social networking sucks souls through posted fakeness.Demon is just like "us", fantasy Hitlers from hell.
>>738394719The lack of explicit transsexual gay buttsex DOES make it very difficult to associate with Baldur's Gate 3.
>>738394480a good writer understands writing is about both teaching and offering something to enjoy, and is humble and self-aware enough to not steer into preachy or pandering territory, or to vilify something that came before for shaky reasonsFaelith the sucucubus is a deep, complex character full of nuances, who enjoys a good book and hot cocoa, and also really wants to suck souls and suck dicks.
>>738394480don't plaster modern dogshit politics on it
>>738394719The fact that you didn't even argue against that its colloquially designated as Baldur's Gay 3.
>>738394480Reconstruction, the characters can have subversive traits but they have to still embody the classic tropes.
