Up until RF5 it was one of those series that progressively gets better and better as it goes on. 5 drops the ball in just about every way possible. It doesn't run at a consistent 60+ FPS even with performance patches, it looks worse than the 3D games made for inferior hardware 10 years before, the social aspects are a huge step back from RF4, the game balance is pretty bad(even on the hardest difficulty it's far too easy), the main area is big and empty for no reason... it's just not a properly directed game in any regard. I don't think it's a bad game but for fans of the series who got to enjoy progressive improvement it's pretty disappointing waiting nine years just to play such a mess.Thankfully Guardians of Azuma showed a lot of improvement so there's at least reason to believe 6 won't have any of the issues 5 had.

For example in HM(and SV) when you eat food it stops time. The entire world around you freezes while you eat. Eating food in RF involves thinking because the world around you doesn't stop. For some reason this doesn't happen in SV so the entire combat system involves zero risk because you realistically can not die when you're able to hold a stack of 999 healing items which stop time while you eat.Everything about combat is so shallow in SV that the game would have been better off removing it entirely and focusing on improving other aspects.

I kind of liked the fight gameplay of the RF3 and 4 games. Is that considered hack and slash or something? I really don't know what to call it.But just running into a zone, especially when you're under leveled, and trying to find a bunch of treasures and kiting enemies was kinda fun. Especially when you had your monster pet and wife helping.Getting knocked out sucked though because it basically cost you every single dime you had.
