Slept on it, next play I sorted my item rings and got through it. It was notable because I remember Jenova from the SNES rom back in the day and that was the first hard boss back then too, but it's usually a just one of those "hey player pay attention to the game or get deservedly wrecked" encounters.
I'm still mad that the only reason very hard Armstrong is such a motherfucker is because nobody upgrades Sam's swordif you get even a few upgrades the fight is fucking easy
