>look up video game music composers considered to be the best
>half the list are japanese
why are japanese people so good at making music?
>>
video game music is not real music lmao when's the last time you actually heard about japanese music, korea absolutely dominates that area of the world in music
>>
>>738415920
I don't know what that list is, but I bet most of them started in the 80s and 90s when composers still went to music college or were musicians or even listened to jazz/prog.

nobuo sama, I...

I think it's just ratio. It's not that they're skilled, they just make a lot of games and therefore make a lot of game soundtracks. So naturally the numbers are gonna be skewed in their favor.

>video game music is not real music
video game music is the only good music
>>
>>738415920
They're really good at ripping other people off.
Most game music is just straight copies of yellow magic orchestra or popular jazz fusion music from the 80s.

I'm not being a dick, i absolutely love japanese game composers, i listen to them during my day to day life constantly.
But they are shamelessly derivative and i don't know how most of them aren't in jail for plagiarism. Especially Yuzo Koshiro.

>They're really good at ripping other people off.
That's the entire rap and hip hop genre to a Tee.
>>
>>738415920
Because they make music for videogames not for not-movies.

japanese people are born with good taste

Shimomura > Uematsu.
>>
>>738418195
what do you mean?
>>
>>738418597
Shimomura is excellent but no. The only vidya composer above Uematsu is Mitsuda
>>
>>738415920
Because they steal everything

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x7JLXsZk-w
>>
>>738419016
How did Nintendo get away with this?
>>
>>738418738
That the entire black music industry is built on ripping off music from other people. They 'formalised' the theft and called it 'sampling'.
>>
>plagiarize classical Germoid composers

Asian people take video game composition 10x more seriously than Westerners. They view it as a serious artform with lasting cultural impact, Western composers view video game music as the only thing worse than not working in music at all.

Pic related is a film that demonstrates this exact phenomenon.
>>
>>738415920
>why are japanese people so good at making music?
More than them being particularly good it's a matter of making music for videogames (and anime) not being seen anywhere near as low brow for musicians, so everybody with talentwants in rather than just whoever can't make the cut for "higher brow" jobs.
>>
>>738415920
For his generation of composer? Strong melodies, adherence to themes, and more than a few leitmotifs.
These days Japanese aren't any better than the slop churned out by most of the west.
>>
>>738418819
>Mitsuda
All his post 90s music is awful.

It all sounds like the Titanic theme by celine dion because he uses those awful celtic/irish flute and fiddle instruments.

"Music" is a terrific product that's made best by people are dedicate their lives to it.
"Japanese culture" is much more focused on loyalty to a task/skill/trait than most other cultures, so when someone decides their life-characteristic is going to be "music," there's a very high chance what they produce will be higher quality. Especially when compared to cultures that reward laziness and nepotism. And very especially when whatever that life's focus is on a niche, exclusive, and expensive invention (hi, video games from the 1980s!).

How often to Japanese sound designers hang out and post on social media vs actually being in the lab working?

I can name YLO, Flipper’s Guitar and Susumu Hirasawa but can’t name a singular gook. I’m not a woman so that might affect things, but women should never be listened to as far as the arts are concerned.

Western games have almost always leaned towards ambience which blends into the background and thus rarely leaves a lasting impression.

Off the absolute top of my head for western vidya composers which crush anything Japans done

Because, after Doom, it seems that barely any western studio and/or publisher bothered with music. Sure, you can name some exceptions like Halo, the Monkey Island series, Expedition 33 or Undertale, but besides those exceptions you don't have the western equivalent of the niche japanese game that somehow has a great OST, like for example the Ys series.

Uematsu is the GOAT but Kenji Ito is INSANELY underrated, I can't believe the guy isn't half as popular as Uematsu.

The first few of these are exactly the sort of shit that's poisoned western composition and eastern composers that try to ape it. Emotionally void, listless swells from the orchestra that drone on for minutes. No change in timbre, no change in rhythm, even a melody to even pick out. You can hardly remember what this shit sounds like the moment it stops playing and for some godforsaken reason people have been conditioned to hear these orchestral swells and experience 'awe'

It's very clearly western movie/television influence where music is often absent/diegetic/atmospheric and not meant to be the focus.
>>
>>738416065
yes the goyim are majority, thats the problem
>>
Weebs have turned jap composers into Gods mainly because of their obsessions with JRPGS. The reality is that Western composers have never taken video games seriously because of the social stigma (which doesn't exist in Japan). But when they lock-in nobody can come even close to a White composer. I mean we literally invented music.
>>
>>738427713
An example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnMR6SOBa9k

A Japanese cannot compose something like this simply because they lack their culture lacks the complexity that Europeans developed over thousands of years of refinement.
>>
>>738419292
Hellooo, Tim and Geoff Follin? They're legendary for composing extremely high-quality soundtracks for relatively obscure retro games.

Theres nothing wrong with xenoblades soundtrack but it's not that great either, it doesn't really immerse you very much and get you in the moment, i'd put anything from persona or final fantasy over it for example
https://youtu.be/Mk-BnGKdowo
https://youtu.be/zCCfe-JAPRk

And i'd absolutely put any of Jeremy Soules soundtracks above all of this, people still listen to his themes to this day for how immersive they are

>>738427025
I'm only going to take your opinion seriously if you post some good shit that addresses each criticism you made, otherwise i'm going to assume you're talking out of your ass and don't know shit about video games
