The unit that's flying through the air is a melee robot with a jumping ability. The rotating towers have the ability to push units away. Usually you'd use that against enemy units, but here it's used to propel the jumping robot away.

Either works. But if it's a choice between good story and good gameplay I'd take gameplay every time. I can't even really think of a game with a story so good that you'd stomach otherwise awful RTS gameplay for it.

It's a lot more nuanced than that, I've found that my skills in aoe2 dont translate over well to other RTS games

if it's not aoe2 rts it just doesn't feel good.
I don't know what it is. You build city, click units, select tech on building. sc and aoe clones like STAR WARS™ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga (aoe but star wurs) feel good. They play kinda like aoe. or is just a clone.
If it's something else, it's no good.
