>sold absolute gangbusters on release even outside of China
>people at the time said it was fun
>is now the definitive example of "(insert year here), I'm forgotten"
What happened?
>>
>>738427991
Why does this game cause so much seething?
>>
It's literally CCP propaganda
>>
It's so odd since they supposedly were making dlc for it but nothing came of that. Instead, we got an announcement of an entirely new game.
>>
>>738427991
>What happened?
it's garbage. next question?
>>
>>738428420
Circlejerktroon seethe campaign, similar to Stellar Blade, Crimson Desert etc
>>
>>738427991
Entirely shilled by China, the game is trash. If you want an actually fun Chinese single player action game play Wuchang instead.
>>
I learned by now that anything that "/v/ is talking about" you have to wait a week to see whether the hype was real or just advertising

see: crimson desert
>>
>>738428897
Name one game you don't think was advertising that came out this year. Go on.
>>
>>738428897
lol all of them are advertised
>>
to be fair, games nowadays are forgettable so single player games die in discussion the month they release. there's no more mass effects
>>
>>738428897
see: Metroid Prime 4
>>
>>738428897
>see: crimson desert
This is going to continue being shilled alongside anything else korean from now on since the korean government is now invested in gaming.
>>
>>738428972
I'm not saying I don't think there's viral marketing, but you have to wait until the viral marketing disappears after a week to see if there's any real hype

pragmata and re9 are good examples of games people are still talking about favorably
>>
>>738427991
it sold about as well as lies of P did outside of china
which is not bad but it's not "gangbusters"
>>
>>738429124
There's a thread for all 3 of those games up right now and the Pragmata thread is the only active one cause it's the most recent and hit a sales milestone. So explain in your profound mental gymnastics how 2 of those are "totally organic and genuinely loved games" and 1 is "artificially shilled marketing campaign". Let me guess though you've played the 2 of them and like them and don't like Crimson Desert or haven't played it. Wow it's almost like you're just a seething asshole with a confirmation bias and your "logic" is non existent cause you're just pulling excuses out of your ass. Don't actually reply to me by the way I don't actually give a shit what you have to say cause I know you're too far up your own ass to have anything of value to say.

it's not trying to send any message or achieve any political goals
it's a videogame.

the haters are the polar opposite of marathon chartfags.
the difference? Instead of hating a cynical corporate trash, they're hating a product that does not validate their own """personal""" agenda.

You see, lack of humility, pampered upbringing, low adversity and perenial uniformity of thoughts and experiences.

What did you expect from those people? Or a better question; What's exactly what they want? If they want anything at all?
>>

>What's exactly what they want? If they want anything at all?
Attention.
>>
>>738429335
based
>>
>>738427991
Well, just how many things are memorable about it? Seriously. Apart from Dark Souls made in China?
Is there anything about its gameplay mechanic that's no one else has?
Is there anything about its graphics that no one could replicate?
Does it have a track that belongs on the all-time video game music playlist?
What about the story?
>>
>>738427991
it was okay but 99% of the "discussion" was just jerking off sales numbers and steam stonk charts
I have 0 desire to ever play it again
>>
>>738429335
I mean you can look at all time steam reviews and it lines up with what I'm saying

I think you're projecting because you like the games that got shilled. I'm not even saying they're bad games I'm just saying the hype is artificial.
>>
>>738430345
Consider the following: if the hype isn't your own, then there is no way for you to confirm whether it's artificial or not.
>>
>>738430569
if it fizzles out a week after the game releases it's fair to say it's fake hype
>>
>>738429989
The way stagger mechanics and the counter moves in general is pretty unique amongst the games I've played in the genre.

>even outside of China
That's the point of contention as the devs themselves stated that less than 5% of their sales were outside of China. I'm not ready to dive into the hole of calling the devs liars for stating that their game failed in other nations when it actually succeeded according to an anonymous post on 4chan.

Where did you get 5% from?

you can make a reasonable judgement based on the review languages
>>
>>738427991
no it didn't sell well outside of china, influencers were paid to play it and shills/bots posted about it incessently for month with the same pictures
inside of china, people were told to download it and compensated for doing so since it was produced by a ccp owned company, then they let the game run on their devices for dozens of hours, while getting no achievements

the global achievement rate for some early game accomplishments that are part of the campaign is about 20%, compared to other games like mhwild where early game accomplishments are around 70-80%

EVERYTHING that has to do with china is a lie, every time, it's not even worth examining it after a point, you can just see
>china = lie
and discard whatever the loud narrative is
>>
about 80% of written Chinese reviews of the game are 2 words or less
>>
Chinese mythology doesn't have the same staying power as an original mythos. Nioh is the same. It's hard carried by having sequels that more or less do the same as the previous game, but it keeps interest alive as it's new.
>>
>>738431846
>chinese lie about literally everything
Why are they like this?
>>
>>738429335
Damn, son. Calm down. He's already dead.
>>
>>738427991
It was nothing special. The reason it got so hyped was that it was China's first proper AAA game targeting the world. It was severely overhyped because of that reason due to Chinese national pride as you can see even with the sales figures where China is like 80% of the sales and the west is the rest (At least on Steam from what I recall). It did do well in the west and it's secured sequels and potentially DLC to come, but it's not what I would consider some sort of staple of gaming. It was a solid Soulslike with proper production values and the classic Korean (I know it's Chinese) gameplay design where it values style over substance.

Story-wise the game is impossible to follow if you aren't
>Chinese
>Grew up with Journey to the West.
>Understand Chinese cosmology.
>Understand the myriad of references being shoved down your face to the point that you need a full story breakdown just to understand what even happened in the story because they just assume you are someone who is deeply immersed in the culture.

Gameplay-wise the game starts off really annoying with bosses like river twink and blood tiger, gets absurdly easy once you get A Pluck of Many, stays absurdly easy until the Scorpion Lord which is by far the most unbalanced and unfair fight in the entire game, stays easy until Erlang, and then gets even easier once you go into NG+ and realize how broken Spell Binder and the Dark Iron Staff are.
99.9% of the spirits are worse than the missable optional statue miniboss spirit you get literally at the start of the game. It isn't until chapter 5 that you get something even close to that same effect and it's still worse than it.
Staffs take an eternity to find upgrades for and you can go an entire chapter without getting a good one.
All armor that isn't the one that buffs A Pluck of Many is worthless. There is no point for any of it to exist because all of them are objectively worse than it. Once you get to endgame then it's Wukong's.

When I talk about seethe, it's about stuff like this.
Why make stuff up to make the game look bad, especially with things that can be easily verified as false?
>>
>>738432128
Ran out of room, but I'd also like to add that Wukong Style is so garbage that once you get past NG+ (You need to clear NG+2 and go into NG+3 to even get it) that it feels like an insult to get it as a reward because you actually take a massive DPS loss if you go into it, it's temporary, and if I remember right you need to get four or five bars to go into it?
>>
>>738427991
>even outside of China
sure it did
>>
>>738429119
that game looks like the most boring shit ever and all anyone ever says about it is that the map is heckin big as if being like 200 hours long makes a game an automatic 10/10

>>738432283
Yep >>738431580

>What happened
It was awesome, people beat it and moved on. Great fucking game, the imitations that followed don't come close.
