I really want to like this game, but multiplayer feels like 5 minutes of actual gameplay and 2 hours of sitting around in stations.
idk, I still love it, I love preparing and getting shit ready for the big fights and challenges, it's very much part of the funbut seeing how crazy the modding scene, I'd be surprised if you couldn't find mods to adjust that to your taste
>>738429501game works better with a team of people, not a big group or randoms.and a fuckload of mods
>>738429501Default multiplayer is completely worthless. This is a game meant to be played by 4-8 personal friends who are willing to meetup multiple times for multiple hours to play multiple campaign missions. Basically treat it like the same level of commitment as playing D&D, with people taking it about as seriously. No traitors or retarded bullshit. Just a bunch of friends trying to accomplish a goal despite getting obliterated by mechanics all the time.Mods help.
>>738431773Lol nerd
>>738431689>>738431773Are randoms that awful? I joined one or two lobbies and it was alright.
Who here played legacy?
>>738432467There is virtually 0 point in playing a campaign with randoms. 90% of the enjoyment is building up the sub over the course of the campaign, improving your characters/equipment/resources. The deathmatchy "mission" mode is really boring comparatively since the correct answer is to just not engage with a majority of threats, coupled with there being next to no stakes since people just respawn and have no penalty for dying or w/e. Doesn't make much sense.
>>738433041I always thought mission mode was a lot funner than campaign, myself. I never "got" the campaign mode, and it's annoying that 9/10 servers are campaign.
Had a group of 3 that was great for getting through the whole campaign before they put a proper ending in. Unfortunately we're down to 2, so I don't know how well it'll go with just two people running around trying to keep the sub running, especially since my friend likes to play as captain and steer.
>>738432574After a very rocky start (the early steam artstyle was dogshit frankly) the aesthetic quality of the game has definitely surpassed legacy, except for one issue which still bugs me. Why did they remove most of the monolithic level plants? The legacy textures would work fine with the current artsyle anyways, and all the modern plants are just closely bunched to the walls.
>>738433442Can you do multiplayer with bots and both control bots?
Is the /vg/ thread still going?
>>738433863I thought it was /vm/ for this
>>738432467I fully agree with this anon >>738433041I like building up subs.I even custom built one for my friendgroup with the purpose of upgrading it over time.
>>738432467Back in the subsurface alpha I had fun with /v/ randoms
My favorite thing about baro is neurotrauma mod which is unlike anything else I've ever played. Sadly my friends don't have the patience for a campaign and playing with randoms isn't very fun.
>>738438959Mod qrd
>>738439210expands on the medical systemso you can have amputation of limbs, organ transplants/failure/rejection, surgery (just a series of applications of items, like apply scalpel item, then apply hemostat item, tweezers, etc), and shit like blood pressure and cardiac arrest
>>738439210Instead of all injuries being cured with pomegranate juice, it instead breaks ailments down into problems that exhibit symptoms and cause more problems. You have to diagnose and solve multi-stage medical issues for things like fractures, radiation poisoning, organ failure, blood loss, etc.Makes things more interesting, and prevents injuries and such from being so "videogamey". Though it can be an issue since small things like lacerations or a gunshot would to the toe can just be 100% fatal if you don't have the means to cure it. Or address it too slowly.
>>738429501I hate that these faggots said its "playable" in single player but its really just micromanaging the bots like hell. Dogshit game.
>>738432574I remember when the dev used to be in /v/ threads.
>>738439210Extremely in depth medical system. Everything from blood acidity to bacterial infections are all simulated in real time. Every organ is tracked individually. Surgeries are a traumatic and a multi stage process. A balancing act of keeping oxygen to the brain, not putting the patient into shock, cleaning wounds, monitoring heart rate, and working against the clock. Amputated limbs can be reattached if surgery is done early enough but in many cases players will have to go the rest of the game with an arm or leg stump. Diagnosing infections requires a blood sample and culture growths followed by manufacturing the proper targeted antibiotic. With more money and better ships you start to benefit from Europa's advanced technology. You can manufacture drugs and pills to make your crewmates much stronger and resistant to negative effects. Alternatively you can make various poisons or bioweapons. You can replace almost any body part with an improved cyborg prosthetic turning players into walking tanks. You can grow replacement organs. Player got turned into hamburger but their brain is intact? Stick it in a jar and put it into a cyborg body (or an unwilling participant if you're poor). You can even give lobotomies for shits and giggles.
There was a period of time where BTE was objectively better than the Steam release
>>738439330It's funny that there are tons of hardcore medical mods but everyone else still plays baby mode game
https://youtu.be/B453cLHVuJ0
>>738440072The other jobs don't have anything that comes close in terms of complexity even with mods so it doesn't gell well with the rest of the game. A medic is having to memorize dozens of surgeries while mechanic is press E to repair.
>>738440212That's another thing, why did they increase the delay to be crushed by water pressure? It seems like you can swim for 10 seconds outside before you die now.
>>738439752You had me at poisons or bio weapons
>>738433041You're not playing mission mode right. The lack of stakes means you're more free to actually engage with threats and take risks and what not. Your incentive is less the materials you stand to gain and more the fact that the activity is fun in and of itself. You lost sight of that being the goal and just focused on the win con, and lost because of it.
>>738440057I'm pretty sure the devs just stole some of the stuff from BTE (not that it matters anyways) but the guitar, the harmonica, the shotgun, etc etcThey even ripped this spritesheet from BTE and used it for early builds of the steam version

>>738429501I've played baro with a group of RL friends but only 3/8 people, including me, don't get bored in an hour.Every single attempt is ruined by the guys just messing about in order to try and have some fun, and I can't really blame them.
>>738440738This doesn't really count since harvestable plants and minerals was a no-brainer but BTE also did it first (although they all spawned on top of alien ruins because i guess there wasn't any code for affixing items to level walls)
I play with a group of people from/vg/ and it's pretty fun
Beat the campaign with a friend when it just got released. The boss was a real pain in the ass, clearly wasn't made for only two human players in mind.Really liked the game. Was surprised to see the the dev thank /v/ in the credits, didn't know the dev was a /v/irgin and also made SCP: Containment breach which I also liked.
>>738429501This a really great game IF you're only playing it with your friends, or a dedicated gaming group. Public multiplayer is hell on Earth.
>>738439559I wish he put us in the credits
i did a full campaign with randoms and had a ton of fun. i loved trying to wrangle the trolls and fuck up their attempts at ruining the run, it added a whole layer of gameplay. though, it wouldnt have worked as well if i didnt pick up a few loyal seamen on the way
