>very easy to get into
>it's Killer Instinct: The Tag Fighter (ft. Invincible)
>online has been buttery smooth
>like the character progression system for getting colors and titles, also incentivizes using more than your main team
>movement gets cuhrazy fast once you get past the scrub ranks
>some retards online clearly haven't done the tutorial, so you can land piss easy TODs since they never break combos
>I like how it looks and while there's a lot of blood, it isn't gore porn like MK
>There are some unique characters, but a lot of the cast is a bit too similar in how they fight imo
>Character designs for the most part are very bland, not the fault of the devs, but still it applies
>a lot of costume DLC already that's stupid expensive
>story mode is really short, but I personally don't care about that
>only offline thing I think the game is lacking is that it really should have some kind of character specific tutorials or at least combo trials that go into what certain moves can do with their movesets

I like it fine enough. Like a 8/10 right now, but it could easily go up to an 8.5 or 9 depending on the future updates.
Don't know shit about Invincible, but Dupli-Kate is best girl for me so far.

Most licensed fighting games are anime arena brawlers that suck ass. Invincible VS is a proper fighting game that plays like killer Instinct (Same devs) but it's in a weird spot of being too sweaty for the casual Invicible fan who might be interested. A side scrolling beat-em up Turtles in Time might have been a better fit.
>>
>>738438121
most mediocre licensed fighters are shit like xenoverse and Naruto Ultimate whatever. They only exist to have a big set of cinematic supers ripped from the show and arent actually made to be played competitively. This game does even if it is a bit expensive

That's why I gravitated towards the characters that I've been using so far (except Battle Beast, I just think he's cool). Tried out guys like Allen, Mark, Nolan, etc. at first and I couldn't find a single thing that made them stand out from each other. It's like if SF made a game where 75% of the roster was different flavors of Ryu.
The remaining 25% is cool, but online I just keep seeing the same characters that play the same.
>>

>>

>>
>>738437707
Seems good. I don't want to say it's perfectly balanced and designed and all high level play will be excellent for 100 years, but it's about what I expected. It plays a bit like Marvel 3, to the point I would just do shit that would work in Marvel 3 and it worked here no problem. There's more of a focus on defense and mind games, a bit like Killer Instinct 2013 but it doesn't have a guy yell COMBO BREAKERRRRRRRR because someone dared to do two moves in sequence. It's basically what I want to see out of licensed fighting games.
>>
>>738438719
There's also what >>738438358 said about the looks.
Like, I don't know shit about this franchise. But I love fighting games and am always ready to look at new ones. But when I see character designs like >>738438901, this doesn't look like a quality product to me. It looks like a fledgling C-tier City of Heroes-alike promo shot, and I say nah, that's bound to reflect the quality of the game.
You gotta put in effort all-around or all you're getting is existant fans. And if you put those off too, you done fucked up in toto.

I think its mainly got to do with the short dev time. It was announced within a year of its release and the studio Quarter Up wasn't even incorporated until a month after the games announcement. Devs arent keen on saying when development started, But it really could not have been more than 2 years, maybe even less. Worst case scenario they've been working on the game for longer in house but not as legitimate employees, just a collection of nameless contractors that Kirkman could pay for in pennies.
>>
>>738439221
The problem is that's literally how characters in Invincible look. A more realistic look wouldn't fit, and a highly stylized look wouldn't either because the art in the comic book is honestly mid for large swathes of its run. Even the designs, at face value, are largely forgettable and half the roster is barely relevant to the story at all.

>l-let's go...
>oh, mark, before you go, i introduced your wife to blue Tyrone while you were gone, also your infant daughter is a MONSTER
>...

one issue later:
>Mark's sexy tomboy rapist shows up with no other motive than to "talk" about the fact that she's pregnant with his child
>he walks in on Eve chimping out and threatening to kill her

Kirkman is so bad at writing male-female relationships, it's unreal. Male characters are forced to apologize and act subservient for things that usually aren't their fault, while female characters are allowed to act out (on their emotions) without ever being held accountable. It's so transparently trying to avoid allegations of sexism that it wraps around to being sexist.

20 hours so far.
Disappointing. It is buggy, not even janky. You can tell it was a rush job.
Ellamental 214L rock has no sound effect.
Stage switch doesn't even have a sound effect, let alone a response from the characters.
Combos are pathetic. LM2HjMjH EX EX EX Super Tag repeat, that is, if you don't get assist countered, which can only be beaten by armor.
A bunch of unnecessary slow motion that always eats your inputs.
You can be hit out of ONGOING throw animations. Depending on the assist, you can even CONVERT from being thrown.
Assists with multiple super armor hits.
The tag counter mindgame is, at best, superficial.
4/10.

>>738439221
The character designs are largely taken from the comic, which was apparently popular enough to get a TV show and now a video game. They are a bit bland, partly because some characters look like legally distinct Superman, legally distinct Green Lantern or whatever. I'd still prefer that a game based off a comic book look a lot like that comic book instead of making shit up.

Addendums:
Characters all play the same. All of them have three special moves. Using motion inputs is a disadvantage.
50% of the cast has an 8-way airdash. This is not a good thing. They all have the same animation.
All moves basically function the same.
Netcode is unreliable.

>Also this thing where supers are 30 second long cinematics

>>
>>738439767
It's written by the same cuck that wrote TWD, so it has that same kind of "characters actually die sometimes" suspense along with a healthy dose of mystery baiting. Related, but also has the gore element.

And idk how effective this actually is at growing viewership but the voice cast is full of mainstream actor-actors. For example JK Simmons plays Not-Superman #1, Walton Goggins plays Glowie Man. They're honestly great, but is anyone picking up the show for that? idk. Or Steven Chen playing the main character, I think the guy's good but he's not exactly an A-list actor.

Then obviously, marketing. The memes kept it relevant during season 1 for a hot minute.

I feel like a major part of what makes western capeshit come off so cringe even compared to manga and anime is how afraid it is to be silly. It amuses me to no end that the author is salty at audiences liking Rorschach as a sympathetic flawed hero despite his intent of writing him as a rigid chud coded hypocrite. He really didn't anticipate how Rorschach's last stand would be interpreted by readers as heroic and redeeming.

He's Mr. "Blocking is gay, I'm just going to armor through your shit."

>How big of a deal is the whole blockstrings not actually being true thing?
It's possible, but I've never seen anyone do it so far since you need to be able to react to a LM combo at you only have like a 1 frame window to mash out the level 3 (level 1s just end up trading from what I've seen). Also it's just LMH that isn't a true string for some characters, for the characters I use at least, stuff like MH is a true blockstring and then tag assists on top of that can make almost anything safe.

Aren't comics known to be silly in their premises often? They just take it in earnest? I feel like when it comes to film adaptations they're more embarassed by the inherent siliness. So they try to make it more cool be it in terms of character designs applying that "tacticool" aesthetic that's everywhere in the MCU for instance.

Invincible tries to be silly all the time. It's just fucking regular-cartoon-level humor in a cartoon aimed at ""adults"", and perpetually falls flat. I agree they could be sillier, but western audiences clearly can't handle Japan's smoke there.

>>

Comics have a long tradition of sequestering themselves off by western genre classifications though. IE: if you want "comedy", your whole comic is gonna be like that, all the time, what it's all about. There's not going to be a plethora of comics that are "comedy but we can explore some drama here and there."
Traditionally, most of the ones that are, are inspired by anime/manga or outright ripping them off wholesale anyway, like ninja high school.

>>
>>738441221
Yes. JK Simmons does a great job, and personally I like Walton Goggins in here but he's pretty one-note so I can see criticism, or the potential of him phoning it in. But for most of the other characters voiced by big actors, I don't even realize that it's a known face playing them. It's usually driveby-level quality so you don't even think to ID the voice. Jon Hamm taking a taco bell order just sounds like a dude taking your taco bell order.

that's most of the cast lol since Invincible is very focused on Mark and the people immediately around him.

eh I don't think any character in the invincible comic is interesting enough to warrant a spinoff except for maybe Cecil, and he's dead. Other than the characters, the whole situation on Earth is just weird and power scaling is just nonsensical. Like the whole Doc Seismic situation where he fluctuates between being a joke and being an end-of-the-world level threat. The comic I think Invincible is closest to spiritually is Dragonball (Z) and even that does better on that front I think.

>The comic I think Invincible is closest to spiritually is Dragonball (Z) and even that does better on that front I think.
My main problem with DBZ (and just comics/manga in general, I don't really fuck with them for a reason) is that characters that aren't the MC usually aren't allowed to do anything cool in the main plot more than once or twice before the power level scaling of the villains turns the entire side cast into irrelevant jobbers. So while someone like Tien has a bigger moveset to pull from for a fighting game character, that's only from maybe 2-3 fights in the entire series and he spends the rest of the time being a complete non-factor.

I don't think most of the Invincible characters are that interesting either, but spinoff material could make them more interesting. Give them something to sink their teeth into because they're not contributing shit to the threats that Invincible is dealing with.

I get the feeling that Season 2 is going to be really crappy. Like Season 1 was solid but it got fluffed up way too much for reasons not inherent to the game itself, like the waifu factor which western games haven't done in at least a decade and being 7 out of 10 when most western games are happy if they don't bomb critically and commercially immediately.

Shrinking Rae hasn't done any of that.
So far.

Not that anon but I am wary of what season 2 will bring as well. Considering AdHoc is pretty much Telltale in all but name. I feel like they're going to repeat the same mistakes when it came to their following games. Choices not really mattering, railroading, poor writing. Even for Dispatch while I enjoyed it. It definitely had the same trappings Telltale games once did "x will remember that" and what have you. There's also the fact the director and the other devs don't really understand how it's such a success. So it might be a lightning in the bottle situation, a fluke. If worse comes to worse.

Not to sound redundant but for season 2? Either way the fanbase has been at work all around. A lot of talent just brimming.

The Thing is made of rocks, Titan just has rock armor that he can turn off, if they were the same you wouldn't be able to tell he was black.
Titan is also a reluctant crook turned crime boss and not an astronaut turned superhero, the only thing he has in common with Thing as people is that they both love their families.

I don't know. If you're intent on "maximum true to comic look 1:1", then yeah, there's no helping it. But FFS, they couldn't spruce them up any at all?
I'm not even talking adding belts and bells and whatever the fuck. I'm looking at how goddamn flat those designs are, and how all 6(even the Thing wannabe) have the fucking 1000-yard stare\ going on. Add some accentuation to the muscle definition. Flesh rocky's stone out more. That beast guy is the best looking one there, and even he seems to have no shading/highlighting at all.

She's never doing that period loln her story is over and unless she pulls an Immortal and shows up after the Dinosaurus nuking to help rescue a few survivors she's not coming back to the story

an 8/10 western story game is always much more enjoyable to me than a 10/10 classic jrpg because of the weird, stiff writing and the cultural barrier that can never really be bridged

This is the most niggerslurping goylembabble I've heard in so few words.

Was there something in the buzzword babble were meant to take away from that or...?

Hes one of the only ones who killed a mark variant, and has a fairly unique power. Invincible doesn't really have a lot of interesting characters with unique abilities. Right now its kind of just the viltrumite show.

In the comic, that's her entire personality

I like japanese games exactly because they are different and weird. It's fun to explore different cultures like that.

I want naruto shippuden style game where you can destroy cities instead of fighting like mortal kombat style

It's pointless for Invincible verse
>>
>>738448919
You gotta pay extra for that.

I watched Lirik play through the story and found it very fun and well paced.
I am not playing fighting games anymore though unless somehow Soul Calibur gets a real sequel with all the best of old games and modern standards.

Invincible is dumbest character in this game. The best mobility and everything is safe.

it's kusoge with awful neutral, but i like it because its Tag KI which was always super smooth feeling and fun combos. just a shame it doesn't have all the features of that game like shadow AI. KI was kind of ahead of it's time i feel like it'd do better if it came out in today's bigger market compared to back then.

i don't give a shit about the IP, i'd probably like the aesthetic and characters more if it was almost anything else, but they've grown on me quickly. battle beast's pose after an Ultimate is the best shit ever.

i'm usually on Anissa / Cecil / +1. i also like the big bodies/grapplers of Beast, Monster girl, Lucan, or Conquest.
