you didn't start skateboarding because it was cool, you did it because everyone HATED it. Your parents hated it, your teachers hated it, security guards, cops, whatever. It was a massive fuck you to EVERYONE. It was not a sport, you didn't compete, it was a creative exercise. The fact that you have this gentrified whitewashed version of it set to Duran Duran or whatever feels like they're taking someone's childhood and all those meaningful experiences and removing all the things that make it special so it can be sold as an experience for the kind of person who buys coffee at Starbucks. Furthermore, the way the game is presented is like it's giving a sort of rose tinted view of these memories while at the same time shuttering them away as if nothing happened. The sort of personal growth that one experience though going from that precarious period between teen and adult is just glossed over as a "fun and unique experience!" Much like how a white woman who has been run though would speak of her college years- there is no deeper thought, self introspection, nothing.
