Which of the OG Ratchet and Clank trilogy is the best?Honestly not feeling GC as much as I remember, the god awful space combat is just tedious.
>>738443675I tried replaying them recently, but I own three copies of Going Commando and literally all of them have the fucking infinite loading screen bug that bricks your copy of the game
1 and 4 are my favoritesI played them for the first time a few years ago so it's not nostalgia talking
>>738443675For me it’s still GC. Never minded the space combat, still didn’t when I played it a little while ago.
I used to love 3 the most when I was young (I only owned 1, 3 and Deadlocked) but in retrospect it didn't have a lot of proper levels compared to 1 and 2.I'd say they're all good, each one is best in their own way.
>>7384457824 as in Deadlock/Gladiator, or Tools of Destruction? Deadlock doesn't move the story forward so I've never heard people reference it as the 4th game, cause at that point it gets with weird PSP games or small PS3 games like Quest for Booty
>>738443675uya always
Up Your Arsenal.
>>738445918I've never heard anyone reference it as anything other than the 4th game as it was the fourth game to come out
>>738443675R&C1 felt the most complete (compared to 3) and coherent (compared to 2). 2 is bloated and has a lot of weird design moments in it, particularly the bosses. 3 was a multiplayer game with a half-baked campaign that didn't have enough platforming, and was charactered by well written characters. I didn't really play enough of Deadlock, but based on what other people say, it seems to have done what 3 was trying to do better.Despite this I think Ratchet was the most consistent series of the big 3 of PS2 platformers.
>>738443675The first but only because I still haven't played the other two until I get a new PS3 controller
>>7384436751 has the best planets and best character writing.2 has some good planets too but in 1 EVERY planet is memorable.
>>738446486What's your favorite planet in your least favorite Ratchet game? What's your least favorite planet in your favorite Ratchet game?
None of the PS2 ratchets have satisfying third person shooting controls, so I'll go with Ratchet 1 which is a platformer first.
>>738443675Toss up between 1 and 3 for me. These days I lean more towards 1 because I like the OST more1 >= 3 > 2 > DL
>>738446486Eudora is pretty forgettable
Haven't played 1. For me it's 2>3>Deadlocked. Space combat is fine, podracing is fine, only real complaint from me is almost all the bossfights are trash.
>>7384464283 has way too many levels that are just>here's a big battlefield, go do a bunch of miniquests in italso the Qwark minigame was meh, and Maktar Resort+Joba in 2 were a million times cooler than the arena in 3
>>738443675>Honestly not feeling GC as much as I remember, the god awful space combat is just tedious.Really? There's like 3 space combat sections in the entire game, and you only have to do the first mission in each one, which lasts like 2 minutes. It's such a non-issue, even if you don't like the flight sections
>>738449007>>here's a big battlefield, go do a bunch of miniquests in itThis happens in exactly one level
>>738448668Nah, they feel great, especially compared to just about any game at the time
>>738449007>mini questsIs that really a big deal though, most R&C actual stages are 2 maybe 3 paths splintered off from the ship that all loop back around. Some being a mild platforming section into a minigame like the racing>>7384486683 does for sure. The jump from 2 to 3 does feel noticeable, he is way more responsive/quick and even wrench throwing is snappy compared to how fucking ass it was in 1 and 2.and yeah like the other guy said look at Jak 2/3 compared to Ratchet 2/3, the shooting is fine compared to that dogshit in Jak.
>>738448668most of the weapons have some sort of autoaim, massive AoE or just sub-particles that shoot themselves at enemies (like the plasma ball thing), you're basically not required to really aim at enemies as long as they're somewhere in your field of vision
>>738449358That's big part of why it feels so unsatisfying.
Which R&C has the hottest robogirls?
>>738444124>that bricks your copy of the gamewhat does that even meandon't you mean bricks your save? PS2 DVDs aren't rewritable
Which R&C has the hottest Ratchet?
>>7384496563Courtney is just that good
>>738450035kill yourself
>3 is the first one to have a second radial wheelAlready a big leap up, even in the rare times where I needed to swap shit it felt annoying. I want all my shit available.
>>738450110answer the question
heavy bouncer, plasma storm, no need for anything else
>>738451153GC has the best shield item in the franchise too, probably the last time one was useful
>>738443675uncs found the mirror sixsevennn!
>Up your Arsenal>Quest for BootyJeJhow did they get away?
>>738443675I really like the space combat but I guess it is not for everyone R&C1>great story>great enemy variety>great music>frequent platforming>best level design by farBut>very slow pacing>no weapon varietyR&C2>good story>fantastic enemy variety>best game OST ever made>decent weapon variety>some platforming>insomniac museum>best level art design and presentation, level design itself is just alrightBut>awful and tedious bosses>some weapons desperately need a buff late-game even on playthrough 1>relatively unenjoyable replayability overallR&C3>great music>best weapon variety in the series and replayability—plenty of weapon upgrades and plenty of content to do>arenas get a HUGE upgrade and are now very expansive and fun to play>very fun and weirdly well-designed qwark comics levels>fun multiplayerBut>meh story>dreadful enemy variety (and health scaling)>barely any platforming>several large, uninspired halo-style maps with mini game modes (some modes like the wave-based ones are very tedious and drag, and it is actually the one you have to beat for the story to progress), level design so bad I can't remember the planet namesR&C4>huge upgrade in story from 2 and 3, not quite 1-level of character arcs and characterization but fantastic regardless >very unique OST style from Bergeaud, mechanical and ethereal rock, not for everyone but very neat to listen to>generic, not quite 3-level weapon variety but still more than varied enough to play around with>most balanced and fun combat, enemies are health-balanced very well and stuff like mines and shields make for fun strategizing >vehicles feel incredible to use while not totally overpowered >replayableBut>basic platforming>passable level design, very dull and restricting and not something that is fun to explore>limited enemy varietyNo need to rank such S-tier games, they each play off each other's weaknesses. Buy all 4 and alternate between them.
>>738453084The only thing I think you missed is that Deadlocked is really short.
>>738450035Rivet!
>>738443675the first one is the best, but they're all good (including deadlocked), and the rest are only slightly beneath it. up your arsenal may be a little lower than going commando and deadlocked.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c906eLzscLMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoxunbBlv4whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPMr9OcTGG8the first game in particular had such a cool soundtrack. the same composer did a good job in the later games too, but i still liked the first game's the best overall.
>>738444124unironically might be your ps2 laser
RaC 2 is the best. The overall theming is stronger, the humour is at its best, it has the best soundtrack, the solitude of some of the levels really hits. Also the space levels were fun, fuck you. RaC 4 is my next favourite. The announcer commentary is hilarious, and the gameplay changes up enough to feel fresh again. I liked the larger scale level design and the waves of enemies. Merc and Green were great.Rac 3 is third but still a great game. Loved the missions and the galactic ranger dialogue, liked the QoL improvements like the purchase all ammo button, liked finding the statues in the levels and nefarious as a character. Some of the levels were a bit lame though, like aquatos. RaC 1 is easily the weakest. Very clunky gameplay with shitty weapons, boring villain, most of the humour doesn't land and ratchet is unlikeable (inb4 that one faggot who says oh its his character arc, no ratchet was a massive asshole right from the start in rac 1 and it's for no good reason). Also the music was stuck on this lame disc-scratching thing that was really annoying.
>>738453224Character limit>deadlocked is really shortIs it? Deadlocked has a lot of challenges, many which take you through the entire planet's course. Maybe it is but I don't remember it being that brief. I remember GC as the fastest, I can almost 100% it in a sitting if I really try.
>>738453419>calling 1 the worstkys
>>738453419I agree with most of this. I have found that if you are a big fan of 2-4, 1 is a REALLY hard game to pick up. And vice versa for people who adore 1. It feels reminiscent of the difference between Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy and Jak II/III. Stylistically they are very different games
>>738453739Try developing some taste anon, then you'll see I'm right.
>>738453084I almost shat myself when I found Insomniac Museum by accident in 2>fuck up a jump in the rail grind section in boldan>end up in one of those background bits of land and I can walk around>clip through a wall>lots of mobs>then a teleporter>wtf>insomniac museumIt was only years later I found out there was a "legit" way of getting there, but the accident was more fun
>>738453419>the solitude of some of the levels really hitsYou're now hearing the Tabora desert song in your head
>>738453856True, although Jak 2 and 3 are so much more distant to the point that it's baffling they didn't just make it a different franchise. The rest of the RaC series does at least build on the premises of explorative platform levels, wacky weapons, gadgets and puzzles, and crass humour.
1>2>3>41 is just perfect2 is incredible with tons of upgrades and new features from 1 but it was rushed and is shows3 is 2 but worse and even more rushed and many maps look like shitDeadlocked is just 100% giant empty multiplayer maps with some generic objectives and insanely overpowered weapons that make the game a cakewalk at any difficulty and the weapon variety suck too. The story is cool but it's that cool.
>>738443675I thought I liked 3 the best but on replay I prefer the tedious bloat of 2 compared to the anger inducing waste of times in 3 like the hacking, vidcomics and disguise minigames.
>>738443675Yeah, the sequels aren't even on the same level as the OGs. Dead series after PS2 era, people really seem to like some of them but I don't get it, dialog is unfunny, style is ruined.
>>738454634Tools of Destruction had some fantastic promise in the beginning but as soon as it finally reached the pirate fetish it fell off a cliff.Crack in Time made all the right gameplay decisions but completely lost everything that made it ratchet and clank. The art, the music (farewell David), and the messed up humor.
>>738453609Sure, it's got challenges that really pad out the playtime, but the actual story playtime is short.
thread is making me want to start my 21357986th replay of RC2it's one of those games I dont think i will ever get tired of
Damn, this part is aids if you are even slightly impatient. >>738454859CiT has the only story with an actual emotion core to it and characters who act like characters. All the fun characters in 1 and 2 feel like one-offs. Very much feel the Spyro influence in those games
>>738453739Different anon, but honestly the return to Veldin sucks so bad that it drags the game down
>>738455549Luckily someone figured out you can jump over the wall and sheepinator (or tetrabomb) him to death. If you go to the museum iirc you were supposed to fight him using the scrapped hovercars but they had to come up with the turrets instead for some reason. Either ran out of time or couldn't make it work correctly.
>>738455549yeah I dont know what they were thinking when they added that fight to the game in that stateit's better when you have the RYNO, it can melt half the guy's HP bar in a few seconds
>>738455748>jump overSorry I misremembered, you clip through the gap in the wall with the decoy glove, not jump over it
Personally 2 and Deadlocked for me.
>>738456289>>738455748I just did it actually cause I couldn't be bothered. You can charge boot across the two sewer pipes, and just walk around the cliff.
>>738453084Patrician take
I started with the third game, but came to love all of them.Anyone got recommendations of modern platformers with a similar felling? Played A Hat In Time and really loved it.
>>738457673It Takes Two and Split Fiction for platformer/shooters but require another person but atleast its 1 copy for 2 people. Pseudoregalia for just pure 3d platformer movement is really good too.
bump
>>738453084Agreed on almost every point. But R&C 1 weapon variety isnt that bad. Though there are weapons that are just worse versions of some weapons like mine glove is worse bombglove
>>738456338 based zoomer filter desu 2 is peak “we had money and ambition” and Deadlocked is peak “fuck it, arena mode but crank the guitars.” I can respect it. Deadlocked’s weapon leveling was crack and the announcer carried half the game. Still think 2 has the best overall balance though. Actual planets, banger OST, NG+ that doesn’t feel like a chore, and weapons that don’t all turn into screen-nuking particle vomit. Deadlocked is fun but it’s basically combat rooms stitched together. Great junk food, not a full meal. What puts those two over 1 for you? Just the gunplay/strafe button glow-up?
>>7384629282 is generally an improvement, even if some optional content feels a bit lack tedious and the bosses do actually suck. More fun/unique weapons, combat and variety is better. 2 really locked down everything a R&C needs to have between refining strafe and having weapons level up.After playing these back to back, I am surprised people think 1 has THAT much of a better story. I do like Drek better than Qwark but almost all of 1's story is told from Infobots. You are behind actual events by a planet so you just see Drek in infobots until the last planet. 2 has the same issue but there is alot more in-person stuff with Angela or other characters to move it along.
>>738448928What the fuck is wrong with you?
Shame that Qwarks va died recently.Man was the voice of my youth https://youtu.be/zbtNFFfFwUg?si=qlTMYtjwuPP58gmi

1=2>3>powergap>deadlock>MASSIVE POWERGAP>the rest
>>738463418>the cinematic camera framing on every level's first entry2 was the concept artists and 3D modelers flexing how good they are at their jobs. To this day there just isn't a game with this much attention to detail in the environment. Also I need to point out that so many of the planets have air traffic that (besides skill points) adds nothing to the game and exists solely to add atmosphere. Everything these days is so bland and generic, or in the case of UE5, covered in cosmoline…
