>>738449587
Not really
Most tactics games like this have the issue of difficulty being irrelevant since all it does is 'more hp/damage' for the AI
XCOM 2 and games like it fall apart around 2-3 hours in since unless you're utter shit, your soldiers are most likely 'complete' and you're used to the game to the point that aliens have anywhere between 2-5 direct counters for them so you can easily beat the game

Tactics Ogre blows FFT out of the water. FfT feels barebones in terms of combat. And TO has ACTUAL tactics where FFT is an RPG on a grid.
>>
>>738449587
Bruh, modded oxce is so much better in terms of tactical experience.. Xcom 2 has so much "because game" bullshit which I can't fucking stand in tactics games.

Xcom files mod shits all over xcom 2. I went to oldcom AFTER playing nucom plenty, never looked back. Less artificial bs.

Honestly that doesn't bother me much, but also mods expand on this. Sniper spotter ai, energy shields, camo, zombification in some cases, damage types .. and if you really want harder ai, brutal ai fork can make ai that plays like absolute bastards.

You speak as if the game, especially modded, is easy. Half the difficulty is managing your troops engagement which is mor complicated than the shitty 2 action system, but also more flexible.

It also has less complete and utter bs, like xcom2 unlimited enemies, your evac moving because lol fuck you, or even xcom eu "lol you can only respond to 1 terror mission because ur moms a whore". Every failure in oxce has an identifiable, fixable reason, even if the resources for it are another story.

You're arguing against points I never made
>>
>>7384529
Did you make a point? You said less tactics, but they can also do tactics xcom 2 literally can't, less gimmicky and more devastating.

The management of your units also makes this matter less, nucom demands less battlescape management, which also mean you have less agency, which means less tactics, which means fights MUST be made more predictable and manageable, which is why they put in bullshit in to even make it feel hard. Like what are you so sad about missing? The bullshit where the chosen or whatever literally can't be over watched??

And me talking about bs before was just because there IS tons of bs and I fucking hate it.

XCOM 2 story is retarded but it holds up so well as an actual game. It's criminal that there isn't another one. I couldn't stand the "because game" bullshit logic in 2. Feels more like a card\board game secretly disguised as a tactics game, and I fucking despise this.

No, its not "bad at video games", its being enraged at ABSOLUTELY FUCKING RETARDED reasonings for shit.

Why are loot boxes in a mission RIGGED TO FUCKING EXPLODE before they have a single fucking clue you are there? Because game. Why is it when I Pre-emptive set an evac point to rescue someone, using a pilot who SHOULD be extremely fucking loyal, and understand the danger my units are in, he drives away to the opposite end of the building as enemies rapel in to kill me because the other selfish asshole leaves me with LITERALLY no explanation, other than the lazy cunts wrote a script for him to land when you rescue, and FORCES him to relocate to some arbitrary bs instead of respecting MY FUCKING COMMANDS?? because game.

Its even worse I have less choice overall than oxce , but then the one choice I think I have, swift evac, it fucks me on and gets my squad half wiped from what SHOULD of been a flawless mission? No, absolute fucking trash. Oxce is fucking brutal but they don't bitch you out with shit like that.

You aren't getting it.

Evac mission, where are you save your kidnapped buddy. Ok, i got this. Sneak in, kill guys, full stealth. Good shit. Game tells me alarm sounds as soon as I grab him, so be careful. Good shit.

I use the "send evac" command to put the evac at the FRONT DOOR OF THE FUCKING JAIL, where ALL OF MY FUCKING ARE TEAM IS , except LITERALLY 1 DUDE RESCUING. Because I, trying to be fucking smart think "lets not worry about the pilot landing somewhere stupid after I grab him, I'll TELL HIM TO LAND here, and he will stay"

I WAS SET to safely evac in a SINGLE TURN, with plenty of overwatch to probably survive first wave of reinforcement zero problems, because the evac is like 3 tiles outside the front door . In and out, nothing. The bird is LITERALLY ABOVE MY FUCKING HEAD.

AND, as soon as I grab the captive, alarms blare, and my bird above my head FUCKS OFF in another direction for literally no fucking reason, no longer literally above my head, but on the furthest opposite side of the jail. His movement took me from CAKEWALK in and out, to 2 people dead.

No explanation, no warning, no reasoning, nothing, just shit coding because fuck you, you AREN'T ALLOWED to plan ahead.

Action points were the LEAST OF my fucking gripes, see above. I tolerated that, and even complete bullshit reasoning of aliens exploding their own gear for fun on timers, but that fucking MALICIOUS evac coding made me hate it.

That evac bullshit is ABSOLUTELY inexcusable, any pilot who did that in any military operation who wasn't ACTIVELY being shot at (he wasn't, even that would be excuse enough) would be courtmarshald and firing squaded for dereliction of duty and probably treason. Pilot is a fucking murderer

TO only requires thought if you play the postgame, which I'll grant is bigger than FFT. The class system is more versatile in FFT where in TO you're always equipping Anatomy, making everyone a ninja or archer, etc
>>
>>738457748
You'd melty too if you making a GOOD strategic play was absolutely ass fucked because they coded it so fucking assanine.

Pilot was literally waving to my dudes, then flew away so they could get slaughtered.

I dare any of you to try and excuse why it's that way. They don't even say "oh there's an anti air threat, I can only safely go here". He just lets you die because some fucking moron said "yeah, you can set evacs, no it doesn't end your objective or fail your mission, or literally anything to send it, and its identical looking to other evacs, but you know, what if the player set evac for some reason, didn't immediately use it, and then did final objective?? Oh lets move the evac of course, not even fucking ask the player. So setting better mission exits is literally fucking impossible because we intentionally coded it to be impossible for no reason, with no warning because fuck you".

Inexcusable, and none of you can even defend it.

I don't understand why so many people treat the chosen as this awesome addition. the hunter and the warlock barely do anything, and the assassin is built to get cheap shots at you with little counterplay, until battle scanners/scanning protocol hardcounter her.
That and their retard marvel quip tier dialogue only makes the game more busy and annoying rather than adding anything interesting

There's a huge difference. In oxce, even modded, even if i fucking hate it, i feel like there's always some blame on me

Should of brought more flares. Needed more meds. Needed bigger calibers, needed different guns, more explosive, a melee weapon backup, different troops, bad movements, complacent tactics, prepare more for unexpected (reasonable) shit like I go to a cake walk science station to raid and kill a dozen scientists and take their shit but OPPS ALL CHRSALLIDS, taking a better landing zone, being more cautious, being more brazen, sending more expendable people, WHATEVER . All of that shit is fine because there's an understandable reason, and I can learn from it. That combo is fucking essential.

There's ZERO fucking reason for that, and all it would of taken was a throwaway line of "LZ HOT, MOVING TO SAFETY". BOOM INSTANTLY better, especially if they warn me prior.

But not, the game lulled me into the idea I could TOTALLY evac my guys in 1 turn after objective and cucked me, and not a SINGLE attempt to even explain why.

That's just shit design, and I imagine that's not the only case. And if I hated it that bad in a few hours, I didn't want to see more.

>>738458726
At least you can ADMIT its a flaw. To me it felt like a rancid fart in my mouth, that bitterness doesn't go away. Especially when I immediately go from "man, I'm so smart, not spotted, zero injuries, perfect mission" to screaming because my pilot moved and I realized how fucking dead i am, and not because I made any objective mistake, or even because some enemy trick..
From brick level pilot ai.
That emotional whiplash without even a valid target to take anger out on, not aliens, not myself, but the devs... can't recover from that.

It's a game, a piece of work, a product of design and execution. It's going to have flaws. If you still enjoy it regardless, great, that just means the good parts outweigh the bad. And, you know, you can always try and see if there's a mod that changes the parts you don't like. It's your game. Do what you want with it, play it to your preference.

It matters to you
>>
>>738459614
Fair, and I appreciate you hearing my gripe anon. I know its not even all bad but Jesus Christ that's fucking unpleasant to die to something that arbitrary in a tactics game.

And I'm used to bullshit, oxce I've had a reaction fire rocket shooting into my dropship as I step out, hits the back interior wall, immediately 16 people dead, all gear gone, 1 million dollar ship gone, and the council is now screaming at me why I fucked up so bad...THAT Hurts, but you can apply it to "rocket guys are evil, and exiting your dropship is hell". And really even that scenario is rare.

But to something as simple and arbitrary as that kinda feels like if you plan really hard writing a paper for class, you spend 7 hours on it, research everything, triple check everything, hand it in, the teacher immediately sets it on fire and pisses on it, saying you should of used a #2 pencil (he never told you this before now btw).

It just completed ruined me because despite all other gripes, I WAS very immersed and into it up til then, but after I felt like there was no point if I might encounter ANOTHER arbitrary cause of death, screwing over meticulous planning.

kind of agree with your point about shit being "because game"
I stopped liking the game affter I completed the objective, called evac, but the game treated it as a failure because I hadn't killed all the aliens. As far as I remember, them game tells you the early retreat is an option. So to me, that was a smart move; rather than risk losing troops in a difficult fight, take the thingy and scarper
plus the timer bullshit. It really shouldn't start until they see you
>>
>>738460598
You'd think if the game wanted you to set the evac before you had secured the prisoner, it would tell you that? Weren't you supposed to be smart?

>plus the timer bullshit. It really shouldn't start until they see you

I've read many scrubs saying Xcom 2's timers were too tight but I never noticed them being too tight. Maybe it's just some psychological thing that because there's a timer no matter how lenient, it fucks certain type players up

>>
>>738461163
even without struggling with the timers, I still think that there's a disconnect between the game saying "the aliens will shut down this mcguffin if you're detected" and then the timer is already there, as though your presence is irrelevant
>>
>>738461163
>because there's a timer no matter how lenient, it fucks certain type players up
This is me. I'm fully capable of competing missions within timers, but it usually leads to less than optimal outcomes and implies that the Dev's priorities supercede my own, so I just ignore them and make the best tactical decisions that are possible within the framework and eat whatever dumb penalty timers tend to impart. If I can remove the timer, I usually do. I don't really enjoy my fun arbitrarily ending at some pseudorandom interval, tbdesu.
>>
>>738461417

The mission timers by themselves are fine, but shit rigged to blow when they DON'T know you are there is absolutely stupid, and ruins immersion...do they just, casually rig shit to blow, for fun? Why are they so well armed then?

This is made worse by the fact I expect such reasoning of xcom, even if its contrived. But there's none.

>>738461052
See, I think I'd almost prefer that, because my map was clear entirely. Everything dead, safe. It set bird down, and still let me go to objective, and then AFTER, I get punished because how dare I pick my own evac.

Its not about what the games wants. I wanted a quick exit. The gave me a mechanic that looked exactly like that. The game gave me no "btw ship gonna move" warning. Nothing. And moved without even a "oh sorry I'm in danger trust me".

Your argument is basically saying I'm fucking stupid because I didn't play like all its fanboys, and I deserved it because evac is only for if you fail, and I should SOMEHOW KNOW, that if I become a winner, the failure van leaves because I'm not a failure, but am now winner because I got the dude, but also because I planned to escape on the failure bus and not the winner bus, that I fail anyway. I shouldn't ever try experimenting.

What??

No, there's multiple solutions to make this less shit.

Say the lz is hot
Keep the ship there.
Give me a quick prompt to move or keep it there

3 stupid easy solutions right there.

I was iron manning... and enjoying it, up till that.

It depends if you play the vanilla game or with the DLCs. The vanilla game is harder and the timers are much more of an issue.

No. It's based on XCOM 2 but where you can aim the guns of your dudes in first person most. So you can potentially hit anything through walls with a sniper. That's fun for a little while but the game is also extremely unbalanced and lacks any real depth since fundamentally it's just a clone game.

I can't believe it single handedly killed Limbus.

So your first attempt of playthrough didn't hand you the win because you overthought things and made dumb decisions and ragequitted and now a decade after the game was released you make posts about it.

>>738461618
Why would you ironman your first playthrough?

I liked it more.

Literally WHAT logic could leave me to believe its a dumb decision, besides trusting devs to be worth a shit?

The evac was ABOVE MY HEAD, he saw me, everything was dead, and I was set to enter EVERYONE into his evac in a single turn.

Why is it DUMB to think a military pilot would wait literally 5 seconds to save people he literally has visual on???

Like I said a single throwaway line would of saved this, but the devs coded it to move and didn't ONCE consider player's might tactically apply a strategic exit post objective. They didn't even CONSIDER anyone would ever do this, and give a warning, despite literally coding in this specific case for it to move.

>>738462034
Fair question, and idk. I'd played a lot of oxce, seen a lot of pain, and figured I could take it, and I did, i lost people, didn't complain, but it always made sense, some kinda logic. This had 0 logic.

I didn't even expect to win that run, I just didn't expect such arbitrary bs to fuck me over, and its not even aliens, its my own pilot.
>>
>>738462034
NTA, but imo that's the true XCOM experience. I always play these games on ironman. If I eat shit and have to restart multiple times, then so be it. It's not really an issue for the mainline games, because they are usually the hardest in the early game and once you're in the middle game, you are pretty much guaranteed to win the campaign.
>>
>>738462375
Sounds to me you had prior mindset how you wanted the game to play and it didn't read your mind.

Usually players fail, learn from their failings and adapt. You sound worse than average players.

I play Ironman when I have first experienced the game mechanics. I was baffled in Mewgenics threads how lot of scrub anons went for dumb challenges without first allowing them learn the base game. I guess younger generation is too impatient for their own good.

Dick is the only thing that matters. Look at south korea, incredibly successful in the ways pic described but women make fun of their dicks and they're so insecure they're unironically called them a terrorist group.
Highest suicide rate in the first world because of small dick energy. A stereotypical nigger has over double the quality of life of a south korean
>>
>>738462839
Not really. South Korea is fine, africa is not.

>>738462808
In my opinion, the mainline Firaxis XCOM games are balanced well-enough for first-time playthroughs being on ironman. XCOM 1 more so than XCOM 2. But still, when you fail in XCOM 2 on your first playthroughs, it's going to be almost exclusively in the early game, so it's not that bad. It's not like some of those overhaul mods out there.
>>
ironman on the modern xcom games is a bit of a shitshow because of the bugs that still aren't fixed
it's not really part of the xcom experience losing a mission because an enemy glitched into the void critting you every turn with you being unable to reach or shoot them

Africa is doing better. Gender war is so bad in SK they're going extinct, they're celebrating birth rate going up to a whopping 0.8 per woman after the government literally had to PAY women to put up with the men
>>
>>738461052
Without timers you would just never lose because you could abuse AI so hard. The problem I have with replaying the game is that there's not enough timer based missions so it just turns into a "hmm well do I overwatch creep for perfect ambushes or do I just throw herp derp".

That's exactly what I was trying. I already went into it a little pessimistic, but I wanted to COMMIT TO IT, so I went iron man, not expecting a win, probably a loss, DESPERATELY trying to like it. And I was getting into it, but that moment absolutely crushed it because I immediately went from "man, this is cool, I can strategically evac and avoid the security response entirely lol, i wish I could do that in oxce" to "WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MOVE YOU KILLED US ALL!!!" While the pilot just shrugs without a word.

Between it being my pilot, and 0 acknowledgment from the game, and sheer whiplash from finally liking it, to catching a turd in my mouth, it broke me.

>>738462663
Its not about reading mind, it's absolutely shit design. Consider this, you are IN CHARGE of coding evac. Just evac, its your fucking job. You are supposed to make it good for the player. You code in that player can call this evac LITERALLY ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, And it doesn't fail mission, doesn't cause problems, ect. And since this conflicts with the mission end evac potentially, what do you do ..differ to current evac? Ask player which evac they want? Say ship is under fire? No, you fucking MOVE IT away from them, no warning, reasoning, excuse, nothing, AND, Also refuse to let the player move it back Because "lol evac landed bro" despite it already being landed before right on my head.

That's objectively shit game design, and they barely had a QA team.

>>738463148
I wouldn't mind failing early game. Infact I probably could of recovered from that mission fine, but the combination of that shit coding, 0 acknowledgment, pilot killing you, and 0 acknowledgment by the game made me livid.

I'll repeat til cows come home, a single "I'm under fire, finding save lz" would of made this tolerable but from my perspective it might of been the pilot noticed his ex was down there and wanted them to die, and played dumb

1 single korean man can repopulate Korea, the entire decline is purely economical, the wealthier classes abused the man for way too long. No, no needs or wants dindus, they are a jewish biological weapon that kills entire civilizations.

Why would the game allow you to cheese without you even know the mechanics.
