Both are perfectly fine and can co-exist. Hl1 does gameplay better. BMS does setting and worldbuilding better.

Gonarch battle was stupidly long and overstayed its welcome in BM. Like... OK I get it. Big headcrab. Why am I still fighting this thing? You'd swear Gordan and Gonarch were arch rivals from 50 years of history together or something the way they chose to keep dragging this shit out. Gonarch is NOT the Joker to Gordon's Batman. It's just a big dumb animal that Gordon stomped while it kept shitting its babies at him.

BM is awesome. So much better than the cobbled together in a redo haste hl1. This goes triple for xen that is one of the most atrocious worst level design in vydia. Barely below residue processing that is a literal sewer level the level designer, dario, intended the player to be a piece of turd floating through the machinery. Always ended a run in hl1 with the lambda teleporter after suffering through xen two times (never again)

Only thing i think is weaker in BM is specific environmental sound design. Explosions and electric crackles for example. Compare original resonance cascade in anomalous materials to BM and the "softness" of it sticks out
