It just so happened to be in a position of where it got tons of exclusives that never went anywhere for a decade. There's still exclusives trapped on it.
It's not only a first party exclusive machine but also a third party exclusive machine.
Although i don't really give a shit about the consolewars aspect to be honest with you. It just happened to be made in the golden years of gaming and that's why it's remembered fondly.
Many of the games being released at that time were good but it's also coincidental because you could play high quality games on any respective platform. However if you were really into Japanese games then it was practically the only thing to own. It depends on what your tastes were like.

I had all 4 consoles of that time (including Dreamcast). PS2 was great, and I loved FFX/MGS2 at release, but it was always the white trash/brown-coded console. All of the quality families had Xbox and GC, and our families would have posh get togethers and we kids would play 4 player gauntlet dark legacy and smash.
