Today, I was replaying seiken densetsu 3 after years without touching it, so I was looking when you promote classes.
The first guide is so grossly overleveled I've had quite the laugh when the sucker says a fight is still hard.
Like, my boy, you almost have twice the level you're meant to be in a game you can beat without healers, what are you doing

It's been so many years since I used GameFAQs to find a txt walkthrough until I don't remember. I stopped using their forum around the time CJayC sold out to GameSpot and started fucking with the layout and making it as shit as possible.

I think the last time I went to GameFAQs for anything at all is right after I beat RE9, because Zeno reminded me of the joke section of this plot analysis that I've referenced with a friend of mine since like 2001 or so:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/198454-resident-evil/faqs/2204

>1. Wesker survived RE because there is more than one Wesker. There is actually a *series* of Weskers, created by forces unknown, which are sent out to perform various tasks. These Weskers are:
> 1a. ...clones.
> 1b. ...robots.
> 1c. ...robot clones.
> 1d. ...robot killer death clones. Yeah, bitch.
> 1e. ...Rebecca. Yes, that's right, *all* of them are *Rebecca*.
>She's *very clever*.
> 1f. ...Nemesis. Turnabout is fair play.
> 1g. ...created by Dr. Mephisto for his own evil purposes. Some of them have as many as *five* asses! Quake in terror, mortals! The five-assed Wesker thirsts for your blood!

A bunch of times lately for lots of games. It's faster to ctr+f something than search through a video or wiki or other alternatives.
Also getting everything in one area is way faster browsing than going all over the internet.
The questions section has also helped a lot for things I was curious about.
Most recently RE3, had lots of questions about little details that were mostly answered like how the the Nemesis drop weapons compare to the first weapons with improved ammo.

It's been a while but a few years ago I'd browse gamefaqs every now and then, mostly for strategy games.

There was this person (apparently a woman) who had been consistently browsing and replying to posts in the boards of old KOEI games for like 20 years.
You could go and post in some dead board that had seen no activity for 2 years and in a few hours at most she'd show up. I wonder if she's still going. That would be kinda insane.
>>
>>738479482
Yesterday for my Breath of Fire 3 playthrough, specifically for some fishing stuff. I also looked up some Master stuff, I have no idea how someone would find some masters like Meryleep without a guide.

Theres some forums like this. People think a post april hack 4chan is a ghosttown but theres places where at best you get a handful of people posting a week, some smidget of activity and then one guy posting in threads that haven't been bumped for goodness knows how long. Being the last one holding out has got to be an incredibly bleak outlook.

> /v/ is so easy to manipulate it's not even funny. Okay maybe it's a little funny.
/v/'s reaction is funny, but "haha I said a thing and you believed it" is not something to brag about.
Maybe this isn't entirely applicable to what you're saying, but I get sick of the "haha you fell for bait" mentality, which is essentially saying that taking posts at face value and responding to them in good faith is for losers

I think one of the big issues Gamefaqs has today, aside from their mods who have been fags for 20 years, is that the classic guides look terrible on phones. It's not something they could have predicted but all of the oldschool
>Size 2 font on stark white background for 100 unbroken pages of pure text
guides are just eye raping if you try to read them on a handheld device. They've tried to address this by making modern guides HTML, but they need to go back and convert all the old ones too. Most of the old guide writers aren't even on the internet anymore, I don't think they'd care if someone reformatted their guide to make it actually fulfil it's intended purpose but on modern hardware.

This week to check something on the Hades forums and the legend of dragoon. I go there daily still even at least for the poll of the day. I almost reach 7k karma.

I actually prefer the old style on mobile because I can 'find on page' skip to the relevant info within the whole guide unlike those hyper fragmented html guides.

Yeah, yeah, the joos are our overlords. Their superior intelligence (how can you not see it!) made us their bitches. They're right now controlling the banks and the international global world order, we're just peons in their chess game. We all know that. Now, please, take your meds.

modern games dont seem to get guides anymore. if gamefaqs fails ill try game8 or neoseeker or whatever else pops on Google EXCEPT IGN

i swear to fucking god google should revoke IGNs ability to appear at the top of search results. they have guide pages for every game and 80% are empty blank pages or at best the most nonguide basic shit that isnt helpful at all

the individual gamr boards at gamefaqs are the best places to get real discussion
some faggot is already cracking his knuckles to reply to this and claim its political bullshit like reddit, because he always does in threads/discussions about gamefaqs but hes wrong. maybe if you go on the general discussion boards, but why ever go there?

the best place to actually discuss games is there because it was have the game obsessed autists there. worst places are reddit, discord and /v/. if you must discuss on 4chan, youre better off in /vg/ but evrn there is full of fags whod rather find something to argue about and insult you for attempting to start a genuine discussion

Steam guides hello?
>>
>>738480410
Sick. I lost my password years ago. Is LUE still around?
>>
>>738504814
the steam guides I bothered to look for were essentially achievement lists and how to get them.

WTF they have moderation? since when?
I remember getting harassed to hell when I posted a Mew glitch back in 2001
not a single person in the whole damn board willing to spend 10 mins verifying but instantly spammed me with pages of harassment about lying nice fucking site
>>
>>738504967
Yeah the vast majority of guides I've seen on steam are this or some hyper strategy for a game and not a general guide.

Three days ago. Elebits for DS. I was looking up how to unlock the special ones.
Decided to use the walkthrough for collecting battery upgrades, why not?
I still have it opened in a tab. I'm in the tropical area

I had a glitch when I completed pokemon blue that as the credits rolled the screen got all distorted, complete gibberish
and Mew appeared in my pokedex when I restarted the game
Apparently it wasnt supposed to happen

Weird to lie about being an old gamefaqer and not knowing they didn't have a team of faggots who banned people left and right.

The userbase didn't just delete itself, although I'm sure many have committed suicide in real life

The user map itself has more than halved since 2020, and at that point there were barely 2000 users accessing the site weekly. I guess you don't quite understand but the site itself barely averages 200-300 people on an actual daily basis, and that's not counting the staff.

The reason the politics board was deleted was because of the massive amount of accounts getting banned on it everyday that it wasn't sustainable to the user map, that's why the admins just straight up deleted the board, instead of reigning in the mod team. It's entirely fine to call for the assassination of trump on the site, btw
>>
>>738505018
Gamefaqs is a place that will let a user troll for literal years but mod the user telling them to stop trolling.
>>
cheatcc still exists

Looking at a guide for Pokemon Explorers of Sky information like specific pokemon spawn rates because apparently there's no information about it outside those guides. And percentage odds are obviously truncated but I don't know where to find the original data from.
>>
theres like two pop ups on EVERY age asking if you recommend the guide or not plus something else and its fucking annoying having to click them away over and over
>>
>game has multiple guides
how do you choose one? recent date? file size? faq of the month/award?
>>
I look at guide a lot just to see the table of contents, to see how long a game is or how far along I am, how many chapters there are, etc

also of course if i get lost or dumb shit happens. like the peeing thing wasnt working right in conkers bad fur day and you have press another button to make the stream more forceful. i dont think the game ever mentioned that or i missed it
>>
>>738505957
I usually go for size. There are tags saying 'most recommended' or 'most recommended in the month', but the size (in KB) were more reliable for me.
>>
>>738505957
but don't dismiss the 'in-depth' guides. depending ont he game, they're very useful.
>>
the guides with different pages is kinda convenient in ways but removes the single most useful function of text guides: ctrl + f
>>
>>738506160
They're only useful if you're on a tablet. It's annoying even on a phone, because the text size is so small.
>>
>>738479482
I think the last thing I used it for was a Gameshark'd save for Super Dragonball Z on PS2 that had profile cards for every character with maxed-out EXP so you could go straight into skill spec, and unlimited Dragonballs.
>>
video guides are only more useful for things like collectibles.
gta 4 pigeons come to mind.
"stand on the 3rd fooor of the parking garage next to the 2nd pillar on its left look up to your upper left 45 degrees over the powerlines and between the two brick houses, itll be on the window sill of the beige warehouse 2nd floor window"

or just fucking show me

and fuck photo guides like ign that would just show a sniper zoomed in on the above pigeon
>>
>>738506113
I never knew what the difference between guide categories were unless it was clearly demarcated in the guide name itself.
>>
>>738505747
GameFAQs at one point had 70 mods. It's been trimmed down a bit but 50+ active mods on a site with 300 users tops is kind of sad.
Mods also have alternate non mod accounts so that 300 number is probably less. The forums is basically a private club for 400 pound trannies that live with their parents.

There was a guy on the GameFAQs boards who made hacks for the game so you could build your character from scratch and pick their race instead of the archetypes.

I can't remember what it was, but I remember that it was specifically looking for something that was unlockable or a cheat code that I kept doing and could never get, only to eventually find out later that it was just something arbitrarily omitted from the console I had the game for. The info at the time was just muddled as fuck because that's how things were.

Looking for a map, trying to navigate the final dungeon in SMT4A. I eventually gave up, it was boring and I was satisfied enough to say I finished the game.

Whose idea was it to let the player reach max level and then put him in a final dungeon with no further progression, no demons to capture, no levels to gain, no skills to gain, no difficulty at all, but also it's full of time-wasting gimmick bullshit and you can't even see where you're going?

Gay as a Portland rancher.

Gamefaqs has been known for decades at having some of the most actively strict moderation on the internet. The complete opposite to here. Hell even reddit, discord, X, and even facebook can get away with more than on gamefaqs. You were banned just for saying certain words like "custom firmware", or talking about "modding" and this was just their game boards. Their social boards are a liberal war zone. Gamefaqs also does global bans and delete every post you ever made on that site but will still leave your post and topics up with a message saying "this account was banned or deleted" so you can't see their post. A lot of these banned users were posting guides and help, all of which are gone.

Gamefaqs mods weren't just strict, these fuckers were ruthless.
>>
>>738507214
The great thing about Gamefaqs in its current form, with its such small user population, who all agree on the same thing, is that it can be used as a microcosm for left wing trannyism, much more so than reddit or discord

This is a website that barely has a few hundred people left on it, and every single one of them agrees on the same thing. They all want the president dead, they want elections rigged, they want genital mutilation for children, they want gay parent- boy baby adoptions, the entire staff is made up of pedophiles, it's the absolute most left wing loony toon nonsense you can imagine, and it's all on a 30 year old retro game website for everyone to see if they simply look
>>

I was using it when playing MMBN1-4 on the Megaman Battle Network Legacy collection last year because it's the best source of information for those games. Still.

yesterday, but literally only because it's still the best boxart database out there and that's all i've been using it for for years now
outside of that the site hasn't been relevant since the 2000s, wikis and discord stole their lunch money for reference and discussion respectively
