Why don't gamers use Linux for gaming?

I know this is a bait thread, but I’ll say it anyway: Linux really sucks for general desktop use. Windows or Mac is a thousand times better
>>
Because it's still hard to get some games to work on it, like OW.
>>
10% of English-speaking gamers do.
>but what about the other 90%?
Most of them belong on Windows and should stay there.
>>
>>738491837
What the fuck do they even use it for? Useless for games, useless for work.
>>
>>738491837
Games aren't made to natively run on Linux and its claim to fame is emulating Windows games. Pretty simple.
>>
>>738492230
>Useless for games,
Works on my machine. (No, I don't play Fortnite. Really. I mean, wow, it's almost as if people who choose to use Linux are the same ones who don't need Windows. Amazing.)
>useless for work.
I use it at work. And if I'd cried like a bitch and demanded to use Windows when they hired me, I'm sure I wouldn't have had the job for very long.
>>
>>738492559
>he remembers fortnight
Still living in 2015?
>>
>>738492559
Wow you cool
>>
Because of market dominance and inertia. Developers need to develop on Windows to sell on Windows because people buy on Windows. Even if Linux was objectively better in every respect people still wouldn't just stop using Windows without a reason.
>>
>>738492729
Wow you coping
>>738492696
Please feel free to replace Fortnite with any other Linux-incompatible game that my continued usage of Linux indicates I don't care about.
>Ummm so any game that doesn't run on Linux you'll just say you don't care???
Yes, that is literally how choosing to use an OS works. I'd use Windows if I needed it.
>>
>>738491837
most console players use it when modding their consoles, so, there's that.
>>
>>738491837
because it was shit until steam stepped in to get out from under microsoft's heel.
the biggest problem of linux is that it isn't very centralized so people will argue with eachother for an eternity over what standards to adopt.
>>
>>738491837
but I do tho and I'm the only one who matters
>>
>>738492230
>useless for work.
That really depends on what your work is, but it is wildly more incorrect than it is correct. Look around you, any electronic device except your PC itself and maybe your phone if it's an iPhone use linux. If your job just has you running spreadsheets then it's probably windows. If it's literally anything else it's probably linux. If you're developing electronics it is definitely linux. Doesn't matter if your building computers for the bank or making printers, they will be running linux.

It is not worth the hassle, but if the rumors are true that Windows 12 will be some subscription based bullshit, then you can bet that I will switch. Linux has reached a point where it is a solid alternative to Windows. Even for gamers.
>>
>>738491837
Cant play wow lol or any game i like. Linux is a a piece of shit

I recently boughted a laptop and installed CachyOS on it.
Bit of a pain to set everything up, learn to download package and do shit but youtube tutorials + ChatGPT helped a ton

I even downloaded some old as fuck steam game and got that shit running through wine
Kinda kino

How can I switch to Linux AND still play League of Legends?

Time for another weekend of typing shit into the command line and reconfiguring the entire OS.

pirated "massgrave/iot" windows still works

I'd use linux if valve made a proper desktop os and the steam frame worked on it

Huh? They shove three package installers for tards in your face on your first boot. I was actually shocked at it being even more friendly than Endeavour for all the talk.

>write a config file that disables the 3 exploitable modules (which aren't even utilized by the average home PC)
>wait for a patched kernel and delete the config file when you do get the update
Don't have to rebuild the kernel or even reboot for this one.

microjeets have been trained by king microjeet. ever seen a microsoft product press conference? they try to tell a story of this fictional person that needs to use every microsift service every day. from every piece of the office suite, to needing to use 2 different computers, so that makes onedrive viable. their fanbase eats it up and assumes everyone moonlights as a self employed architect while writing up documents, and constantly editing spreadsheets, and making presentations.

>>738491837
I don't believe there will be any demonstrable difference playing Silksong on Windows vs Linux.

Linux isn't a functional OS for daily use.
It's an activity box for spergs who've got nothing better to do but pretend they're working hard on their computer.
>>
>>738492230
>What the fuck do they even use it for?
Server farms.
>>

I recently installed linux to test things and for some reason plugging in headphones in doesn't make the speaker audio turn off. Everything else works perfectly, even things I thought I would have issues with.
But that one little thing, one of the most basic tech interactions ever since decades doesn't work as intended. How the fuck did they fumble this so hard.
>>
>>738491837
holy shit look at the size of that forehead
>>
>>738491837
but anon, i've used nothing but linux at home for 15 years now
>>
>>738495356
microslop uses it as the base level of performance needed to improve gaming on windows. theres been too many articles saying "x game runs better on steamOS than on windows" even microslop had to admit it.
>>
>>738495445
Why would plugging headphones in turn the speakers off? Turn your speakers off if you don't want them to be on
>>
everything people say you can do in linux is buried under 50 different caveats, half truths, dependencies, and your-personal-hardware-configuration-based workarounds
>>

but it can be done
