I just replayed XIII and I gotta say its a lot better than I remembered. I played it when it came out and hated it for all the reasons everyone knows. But having replayed it I found it actually quite good. the linearity in the first half didn't bother me one bit anymore. I guess its because I realized that all FF games are practically linear as fuck anyway and most "exploration" is just fluff. lack of towns and usual jrpg dynamics didn't bother me as well anymore, because XIII made up with character and story focus. combat system and music is top tiercharacters are better than I remembered. The generic FFisms creep back in and cause the story to fail at both being a GoT story and a FF story. We needed more factional intrigue and moving pieces. If they took this exact setting and had multiple viewpoint POVs and character motivations like GoT, it may have been interesting. More fun gameplay-wise too. I literally only like 3 final fantasy games.Final fantasy 8. Final fantasy 10 and final fantasy 13.I always felt like a retarded contrarian because everyone shat on FF8, FF10 and FF13 at launch of all of these games but I have been vindicated because the other games like FF9 are slowly fading away yet FF8, FF10 and FF13 remain cult classics that people keep bringing up including game developers like those of expedition 33 citing ff8 and ff10 as their inspirations.
