I don't want to buy characters for a game you pay to play. I don't understand why fighting games still do this when other genres out there update the content for essentially free. I also don't understand why they take so long to add content like skins.

Casuals loved vanilla SF4, they hated rebuying it with SUPER and ULTRA. Capcom decided the tourneyfags and online players were the true market and decided SF5 would be a live service season pass thing. It alienated the casuals completely and worse, the sweats hated the game too. SF6 tried to bring back the casuals but they are still put off by season passes so it mostly didn't work. The series is wheezing along on cheap DLC sold for high prices until they can figure out what SF7 is going to be.
