It’ll be some kind of secret unlockable. Reviving or saving Aerith was the most requested thing to the developers after release. Nojima has spoken about it recently in interviews. So I bet you that’ll be possible.Plus in a gameplay perspective, it’s a waste to permanently lose a character’s style that was crafted after two games worth. It’s not like OG where the only general difference between chars was their limit breaks.

In the Remake it's treated as basically some vacation where the kids can go to swim and have fun with Cloud and some fan service thrown in.
