I might be either stupid or just exceptionally unlucky, I don't know how to make Tinkerer work. All other classes in my runs can provide some damage or utility even if I don't roll OP builds, but every time I tried making a Tinkerer they've been almost complete dead weight. It looks like they need to accumulate "Tech" to make themselves more useful, but abilities that can raise it barely ever appear for me, so they're just stuck building shitty slow 3 HP robots inferior to animal familiars in every way or having to get unreasonably close to an enemy to do 3-5 damage with a weapon.I just beat the End for the first time, not yet at the stage where I'm selectively breeding cats and so on, just rolling with what I've got. Is this the kind of class that only gets strong with specific weapons or passives bred into it?

My issue with the house gameplay is that if you don't care about it, improvise and just toss whatever cats you have into an adventure you can lose due to getting stat checked, but if you optimize/grind breeding heavily then the game becomes a boring steamroll, so you have to like specifically do enough to get challenged but also not too much, and you don't really know where that sweetspot is given the game can just kill your builds arbitrarily with events or bad rolls
